Year 11 students at Shireland CollegiateAcademy,based in Smethwick, rejoiced as they received theirGCSEgradesaftersitting examsfor the firsttimesince thepandemic.

With theanxious wait finally over,studentsgot to see theoutcome of alltheir hard work, after what canonlybedescribed as a disruptiveand challengingcouple of yearsfor teaching andeducation Theresults were evident, with many smiling facesseenamongst students as they openedtheir envelopes includingteachers, whojoined in with theircelebrations.

Sighs of relief were also heardas students foundthatall theirresilienceand determinationhad paid off.
Year 11 studentRushma Khan said:“It wassomuchbetterthan expected andIfeelveryrelieved.”
FaithIdiahisaid: “Withall the difficulty, I’mhappy that we were abletosurpass this andget theresultsthatwewant.”
ShirelandCollegiateAcademy sawits bestresults andoverallpass rate this year,where 74%ofGCSE entrieswereawarded grades 9-4.


Twenty-three percentofGCSE entrieswerealso awardedthe top grades 9-7, with ahandful of students awardedgrade 9s acrossall subjects.AshpreetChahalsaid: “I feel amazing! Iwasn’texpecting it”, andfellowclassmate Sameer Gulzar said:“It’s thehappiest I have felt.”




Students whoachieveda standardpassinbothMaths andEnglish also sawanincreasebyten percentagepointscomparedto2021, with strong pass ratesrisingbyeight percentage points.Principal David Irishsaid: “Weare so proudofour Year 11 students whohaveachieved our best ever resultsatShireland Collegiate Academy.
