Year 11 pupils made every moment count

Thorns CollegiateAcademycelebrated excellent GCSE results, welcomingYear11pupils back to mark theirachievements.

PrincipalManny Kelaysaid: “Achieving GCSEsagainst thebackground of thelasttwo yearshas been particularly challenging.

“Weare extremely proudofour young people,who made everymoment count, achievingresultswhich reflect theirhardwork.

“Wewishthemwellintheir futures.

“Over90% of students have left the AcademyhavingachievedGCSEs in maths andEnglish,withover60% of thoseachieving aGrade 5orbetterin English.

“Overall,attainmentinpublicexaminationsisthe highestithas been sincethe introductionofthe new-style GCSE, andsince theschooljoined ShirelandCollegiateAcademyTrust.

“InadditiontoGCSEsuccess,students didexceptionallywellintheir BTEC qualifications, with 24 pupils beingawarded thetop grade–Distinction*.

“There were some exceptionalindividual performances.Mohammed Mashkoor wasawarded Grade9sin allninesubjects- atruly incredible achievement.”

Otherindividualsuccesses include Aleena Aziz andSophieCox who achieved twoGrade9sinEnglish languageand Englishliterature, Sienna Bloomerwho achieved aGrade 9in artand design,Amber Baylisswho achieved aD* in performing arts and Taylor Johnsonwho achieved two Grade9sinchemistry andcomputer science.
