Extent: 256

RRP: £9.99 Paperback Rights: World

Ian McLean is a new author with a background in both publishing and bookselling. Interested in Roman Britain from an early age he has used his research experience to create the breadth and touch of the first century in Britannia.

The burning July sun beats down on the ranks of the massed Roman Cohorts as they wait at the foot of the slope deafened by the war chants of the tribes above them. Caledonia 83 AD – after six years of hard campaigning in northern Britain and the Caledonian lowlands Governor Julius Agricola is now set to conquer the Highland tribes and finally bring the whole island under Roman rule.

Narrated by Crispus, secretary to Agricola, we follow a tale not just of detailed ancient warfare but deceit, treachery, love, and murder in the province of Britannia. The Emperor Domitian expects results but is jealous of any shared glory or perceived threat to his throne. Can Agricola square his orders with these impossible expectations? Will Crispus decide where his true loyalties lie?

Based upon the biography by Tacitus of his father-in-law, Agricola, this is the true story of what really happened when Rome went to war at the far end of the world.
