John Logie Baird (13 August 1888 – 14 June 1946) was a Scottish inventor, electrical engineer, and innovator. In his London laboratory on 2 October 1925, Baird successfully transmitted the first television picture with a greyscale image: the head of a ventriloquist's dummy nicknamed ‘Stooky Bill’. Baird was so excited he went downstairs and fetched an office worker, 20-year-old William Edward Taynton, to see what a human face would look like, and Taynton became the first person to be televised! Baird who demonstrated the world's first mechanical television system to the public on 26 January 1926 at Selfridges Department Store in London He went on to invent the first publicly demonstrated colour television system and the first viable purely electronic Colour Television picture tube.

The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that started in a bakery in Pudding Lane, in the City of London, shortly after midnight on Sunday 2 September and raged until Wednesday 5 September 1666.
The fire gutted the medieval part of the city inside the old Roman City wall, while also extending past that boundary to the west. The death toll is generally thought to have been relatively small although some historians have now challenged this belief.
The social and economic problems created by the disaster were overwhelming and King Charles II feared a London rebellion amongst the dispossessed refugees. Various schemes for rebuilding the city were proposed, some of them very radical. After the fire, London was reconstructed on essentially the same medieval street plan, which still exists today

The background to the battle was the death of the childless King Edward ‘The Confessor’ in January 1066, which set up a succession struggle between several claimants to his throne.
The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066 between the NormanFrench army of William Duke of Normandy and an English army under the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson. It was a major turning point in British history and the beginning of the Norman Conquest
