Mr. Calvin J. Herring, MMI Class of 1974, will serve as commencement speaker during MMI’s 131st annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 25. In the spring of 2021, Mr. Herring retired after 26 years of employment at the Keystone Job Corps Center. He currently serves as the parttime administrator for both the Greater Hazleton Area Civic Partnership and the Mountain Council of Governments. These two organizations have similar goals to provide improved quality of life to the residents of the area through recreation, education, and better government function.

Mr. Herring is a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting. Following his graduation from college, he worked as the Personnel Director for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hazleton. Mr. Herring then spent four years as an Accountant for Cadbury USA in their Hazleton manufacturing plant before returning to St. Joseph’s Medical Center as the Director of Facilities through 1994.

In February of 1995, Mr. Herring began work at the Keystone Job Corps Center in Drums, PA where he served in numerous positions for the remainder of his full-time career. Keystone Job Corps’ mission is to teach eligible young people the skills they need to become employable
