What’s happening with MMI graduates around the globe

Atty. Phil Yoon ‘96, chief staff attorney at the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, visited a law class at the Weatherly Area High School in November. Attorney Yoon discussed his career journey that led him from MMI to the Superior Court. He also discussed interesting and notable court cases he worked on in the past as well as answered questions from the students. Attorney Yoon’s visit to the Weatherly Area School District allowed for an impromptu mini reunion between himself and former Preppers Melissa Cabe ‘96, Christopher Kimmel ‘08, and Heather Katchur ’97 (not pictured).

On December 8, Board Vice Chair John Hersker ’76 was interviewed by Head of School Theresa Long as part of a discussion series to benefit students who participate in MMI’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Program which is sponsored by Flashback Cinema and The Orlando Family Foundation. The participants were introduced by FBLA Advisor Mrs. Katie Zucco.

A group of MMI’s youngest alumni attended a panel discussion on January 12 with the Class of 2023 to share their experiences at college. Thank you to our participants: (left to right) Amelia Minzola ’22 (Bloomsburg University), Ashley Loss ‘22 (George Washington University), Danny DeMelfi ‘19 (Lafayette College), Brandon Crockford ’20 (Penn State Hazleton), Colin Williams ‘21 (Dickinson College), and Emily Mundorf ‘19 (Bloomsburg University Graduate, heading to the Air Force in March).

York state was still a British colony, the structure at 223 West Main Street is the oldest existing courthouse in the state and one of the oldest buildings in the nation still in use as a courthouse. Judge Best, who retired in 2006, worked in the historic building as a state Supreme Court Justice for 15 years, a Fulton County Judge for 10 years, and District Attorney. A U.S. Navy veteran, Judge Best previously was mayor of Gloversville and a law clerk to his uncle Willard Best, also a Fulton County Judge. Judge Best’s daughter, art teacher Meredith Best, designed artwork for the booklet including pictures of the courthouse, Sir William Johnson, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and others.

MMI’s junior class and Director of College Counseling Stephanie Shandra visited Susquehanna and Bucknell Universities in mid-February. Students toured the campuses and visited some alumni including Maddie Dryfoos ‘19 and Amanda Kalada-Kania ‘19 at Susquehanna and Noah Long ‘21 and Thomas Mayernik ‘22 at Bucknell.
