Brief History • One of Australia’s most well known and photographed landmarks. • World’s largest (but not the longest) steel arch bridge – 134 meters (440 feet) above Sydney Harbour.
• Took 8 years to build and opened in March 1932. • Depending on whether it is hot or cold the bridge can rise or fall up to 18 cm (7.1 inch).
How Long It To Build • It took eight years to build and opened in March 1932.
How Many Died • Sixteen construction workers lost their lives during the bridge's construction.
How Much Did It Cost ? • The Sydney Harbour Bridge construction started in 1924 and took 1,400 men eight years to build at a cost of $4.2 million.
What Was The Motivation For Creating This Bridge ? • To connect the North and South shores of Sydney, because travel between the two shores was limited to ferries.
