HOW MANY PEOPLE DIED ď ś I did my research and nobody died in the process of building The Ben Franklin bridge .


HOW LONG IT TOOK TO BUILD IT ď ś The Ben Franklin bridge was finished in 1926. It took four years to build the Ben Franklin bridge , they started in 1922 jan.6 and finished july 1st 1926.


HOW MUCH DID IT COST ď ś The cost to build the Ben Franklin bridge not including the improvements $37,103,765.42.


THE MOTIVATION ď ś In planning Philadelphia, William Penn was motivated in part by the London fire of 1666, where the intensity of development contributed to the severity of the conflagration.


STRUCTURAL ISSUES ď ś At the Philadelphia end of the bridge, pedestrians and bicyclists can walk up gradually sloping ramps. The New Jersey side, though, is tougher:

The south walkway ends in a steep staircase of 39 steps, and the north walkway has a narrow 42-inch-wide "cattle chute" leading to stairs. ď ś Without a ramp, the bridge walkways remain inaccessible to the handicapped.


BRIEF HISTORY  First official name name: Delaware River Bridge. Officially became the Ben Franklin Bridge at its dedication in 1956.  Bridge was opened to traffic at midnight on July 1, 1926. President

Calvin Coolidge officially dedicated the bridge on July 5, 1926.  For three years it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. It was beaten by 100 feet when the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit opened in 1929.


OTHER INTERESTING FACTS ď ś One of the most amazing facts about the Ben Franklin Bridge is that when the bridge opened, there were no posted speed limits. Drivers were expected to just use their common sense.
