Editorial.

It has now been over 60 days since the new government took over. Although too early to tell what the long-term effects on the revised policies in social inclusion will be for the upcoming five years, the signal of continuity in openness to investments, and supporting the globalization of our economy, through free-trade agreements, seems to be consolidating. Also increasing the income tax, by negotiations with the mining sector, has been achieved. However the real measure of change will be next year`s budget and its execution, as a strengthening of a few existing state enterprises is planned including the consolidation of social welfare plans. There is also a priority placed on internal security and the reorganization of the police and armed forces. In general, the perception is that a new group of younger technicians is taking over decision making in Government, so there is still a learning curve and possible changes to come. But due to this perceived stability, pricing and confidence are returning to the private sector, and projects as well as initiatives that had been shelved since about 6 months ago are now being revised and moved forward. In august we have finally received all pricing for 2012 from our principal partners and suppliers so by early November our 2012 pricing for hotels and services will be made available.

About us. Rainforest Alliance Verified We are pleased to announce that as affiliates of Rainforest Alliance we recently qualified to receive the Status of “Verified and can presently use their logo together with their verified symbol. This has been achieved by going through a thorough revision of a series of requirements that included criteria, standards and best practices as a Tour Operator. We are therefore proud to have achieved a new standard which was launched at an international event held in Guatemala on the 28th of September.

CUSCO Airport Contact As many of you know, we meet all incoming passengers at the Cusco airport for transfer to their hotel. All passengers must first pick up their luggage and then proceed to the exit. There an Explorandes transfer agent will meet and greet passengers with a sign of the company and passenger name. It is important to let them know that the Transfer agents are only allowed after pick-up of luggage, outside the main building, on the left as you exit into the parking lot. Our Transfer agents will be very alert to locate your passengers, but as there will be many taxis and other agencies picking up visitors it can be a bit flustering, so it would be a good idea to suggest that passengers look for their name and/or your company logo.

About Peru.

Entrance regulations: MACHU PICCHU As the new Machu Picchu entrance regulations are now being applied, we must change several of the traditional ways we used to plan visits to this world renowned site. All Machu Picchu entrances will be sold in Advance, and as there is a passenger limit (we still do not know what the official figure will be) all entrances will be sold by passenger name, passport number nationality and date of birth/age. Our recommendations are: A. Please check with the INC web site periodically and before closing a sale, to confirm that there are spaces available – specially for the Inca Trail, where spaces are limited. B. Make all Machu Picchu as well as Inca Trail reservations in advance (for the Inca Trail we recommend 120 days out), with all requested information: name and passport number, nationality, date of birth/Age and gender (M or F)- this last request is because some names of exotic countries are hard to tell. Once you confirm the itinerary of a particular party/group we need to count on this information so we can book and pre-pay within 6 hours of making the booking. www.machupicchu.gob.pe

LIMA airport The Lima International airport is now closed for maintenance between 1 am until 7 am, until till 31st of January. This has been decreed by Lima Airport Partners (LAP), licensee of the first air terminal in Peru. The maintenance work is to improve the condition of the landing strip and place a layer of asphalt to strengthen the pavement structure. The investment for this construction work is U.S. $ 18 million. LAP has informed the sector that all the flights that arrive between these hours are being rescheduled to arrive before or after these set times.
