TRANSPORT SUMMARY
As reflected in Poplar’s average PTAL rating of 3 (TFL, 2019), Poplar has relatively poor public transport connections compared to neighbouring areas such as Canary Wharf. Vehicular modes of transport are relatively well connected but lack long term sustainability. Poplar’s future transport needs cannot rely on vehicular transport because of the environmental detriment vehicles play in the climate crisis, along with the social equity implications relating to financial burdens of owning and maintaining a car. Poplar has strong transport assets within and surrounding its boundary, including the DLR, cycle superhighway and Crossrail. However, the integration of these pieces of infrastructure are relatively poor and have the opportunity to be improved. Improvement to these assets create the opportunity to unlock Poplar’s potential to thrive, connected to the wider city.
