Tenure Mix

01 THE ANALYSIS

TENURE MIX

Analysis of the Poplar Ward profile (2014) shows that the main tenure type in Poplar are socially rented properties, at just over 50% (Tower Hamlets, 2019a). This is nearly twice as high as the wider Greater London region.

The opposite is true of owner occupier rates, Poplar has an owner occupier rate of around 22%, whereas the Greater London region has a rate of around 52% (Tower Hamlets, 2019a).

This data shows that, when compared to the Greater London region, Poplar has a higher rate of socially rented properties. Therefore, it is key to provide a suitable housing mix for the next 30 years in order to support both social and economic growth.

The delivery of high-quality housing, as well as the right mix of housing for the Poplar area, will be ensured via the implementation of the housing policy framework outlined within the interventions chapter of this document. Privately Rented Socially Rented Owner Occupier
