When analysing the Poplar Ward profile (2014), unemployment among the local population was around 10%, higher by around 3% and 5% when compared to Tower Hamlets and the Greater London area respectively (Tower Hamlets, 2019a). Just over 50% of the population were in employment during 2014. This is 20% lower than the wider Tower Hamlets area and just over 15% lower than the Greater London area (Tower Hamlets, 2019a).

Recent data gathered by the ONS annual population survey suggests that, in the Poplar and Limehouse area, employment has reached around 69% whereas unemployment has fallen to around 8% (Nomisweb. co.uk. 2019).

Overall, the number of students and retired people in Poplar during 2014 was comparable to both Tower Hamlets and Greater London at around 5% (Tower Hamlets, 2019a).

The Framework proposed aims to promote socio-

environmental sustainability

and community ownership, by stimulating the local economy through the provision of ToolKits and the East London Green Link.
