ACE MICHAELS ENTREPRENEUR Ace Michaels is a showman who has found a way to transform the local expo and networking industry into an entertainment focused way to being businesses and customers together with his monthly mixers and expos.

being complimentary and at locations with free parking. Also, they are always family friendly, with events being held on Sundays to promote family attendance.

Michaels has always been a singer and songwriter. In the 90s, he signed with both Virgin and Interscope Records, and opened for Prince in Hollywood. He did studio work with many artists, Rick James, Bonnie Raitt and Benda Russell to name a few. He realized, however, there is no retirement home for singers so he began to look for ways to diversify his talents to plan for the future.

Additionally, his events are not always about making the sale, rather the focus is on learning about the customer and their needs. “People do not want to get sold to,” Michaels asserts. Instead, the events allow everyone to get to know each other in a comfortable setting. With so many people focused on marketing over social media, he feels that people forget to talk to each other. Michaels wants people to get to know each other, shake hands and open up a dialog.

This brought him to Las Vegas in 2014 with the same goal as many performers, to produce a show on the Strip. And he did just that, launching the Old School Show at both the M Resort as well as the Hard Rock Café on the Strip. That experience opened the door for him into a new industry in Vegas. He realized there needed to be a way to combine conventions, expos and mixers. As Michaels fondly exclaims, “People want to network.” Using his skills in entertainment, through his production company Avalon Entertainment, a new monthly networking expo was born. The concept goes back to the basics for growing a business and meeting new people, relying on face-toface contact and conversation. Michael’s expos bring local business and potential customers together to build relationships and create awareness. He strives to create an upscale yet friendly environment at his signature networking mixers. He promotes his events as always

Michael’s next event is the Endless Summer Expo at the Conference Center of Las Vegas on Sunday, June 25th. The expo will feature a mixture of lifestyle brands, local businesses as well as charitable organizations. Michaels proudly boasts that the Endless Summer Expo is the best example of what he does, creating a party like atmosphere that focuses on what people eat, wear and do. Bringing people together with local businesses is what Ace Michaels does, and why it has earned him Mingle702’s spot as Entrepreneur of the Week. HOW TO DANCE AT TRADE SHOWS By Ronnie Roll www.ronnieroll.com Many sales people are required to “work” a tradeshow, meaning they are required to stand in a booth during an event, presumably to sell their products, services, or generate awareness of their company. For many sales people, standing on their feet for long hours, trying to smile and draw people in to set appointments and/or make sales is an arduous task, dreaded all year long. But for a lucky few, the trade show is magic! What makes the difference between sore feet and dancing feet? I recently worked a wedding fair with a custom bakery client. In three short hours, we booked 26 wedding tastings between the two of us. With a 100% closure ratio when a bride comes in for a tasting, my client did very, very well that morning. What did we do that the competitors were not? We didn’t have flashy neon signs. Yes, we were giving away small bites of sugar cookies, but others were giving away entire dinner samples, and whole slices of cake. By the time people reached our booth, they were already full. No sugar cookie was going to bribe them, so that wasn’t our secret. What was our secret, was to identify ahead of time a couple of questions that would engage people to talk with us. We specifically did not ask any question to which they could respond with a simple yes or no. We knew the attendees were mostly brides, and the one thing most had in common was a wedding date. Asking when their wedding was scheduled required them to respond to us with information that gave us a lead in to a next question, which could be where the event would take place. Usually they moved closer into our booth with each question. A couple more questions and we usually had them signing up for a free tasting appointment for the bride, groom, and parents. As in dancing, one person leads and the other follows.

For many businesses and professionals, a common question to ask is how often they should post to social media. The answer is as varied as the many social media platforms available on the internet. To add to that question is how often should the message be a direct sell or call to action.

LAICOS

The bottom line is post a call to action often enough so that your followers know what service you provide or what you sell, but not too often that they tune out your message or, even worse, unfollow. On Facebook or LinkedIn, I suggest that should be 2-3 times a week. Want to post more often? That is great, but engage your audience with questions, surveys and “did you knows about your industry. And do not forget the photos and images. Even better, add video at least once a week.

AIDEM

HOW OFTEN IS TOO MUCH?

Additionally, the how often dilemma varies between posting to your own business page or in a group. As an active networker, I belong to many virtual networking sites. Some require administrative authorization to post, others are open. With these groups, keep in mind that it is a shared space. No matter how awesome you think your product or service may be, most people do not want to know about it on an hourly basis. If you are excited about your brand, post a call to action once a day. For any additional posts, focus on sharing information that is beneficial to the group as a whole such as industry reports or relevant news stories. Become the go-to person in your networking circle for important and intriguing information. BITCOIN BASICS ARTICLE BY VERNER DIXON, JR.

Q: What is Bitcoin Crypto Currency? Hey, are you wondering what all the fuss is about with this Bitcoin and Crypto (Digital) Currency activity? Well, I will give you some insight into what is going on and how to take advantage of this opportunity. Just as the US has the dollar, Japan has the Yen and the UK has the Pound, the Internet has Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a new currency that was created in 2009 by an unknown person using the alias Satoshi Nakamoto. Transactions are made with no middle men – meaning, no banks! There are no transaction fees and no need to give your real name. More merchants are beginning to accept them: You can buy webhosting services, pizza or even manicures. The Bitcoin community has since grown exponentially. Bitcoin’s increase has gone up by 200% since the beginning of the year, so what do we need to know about it.

The Bitcoin community has since grown exponentially. Bitcoin’s increase has gone up by 200% since the beginning of the year, so what do we need to know about it.You can acquire, transfer or mining the currency. Several marketplaces called “bitcoin exchanges” allow people to buy or sell bitcoins using different currencies. Mt. Gox is the largest bitcoin exchange.People can send bitcoins to each other using mobile apps or their computers. It’s similar to sending cash digitally. People compete to “mine” bitcoins using computers to solve complex math puzzles. This is how bitcoins are created. Currently, a winner is rewarded with 25 bitcoins roughly every 10 minutes. How can you get bitcoin? You need a wallet. Without a Bitcoin wallet, you can’t send or receive Bitcoin payments. Bitcoins are stored in a “digital wallet,” which exists either in the cloud or on a user’s computer.

The wallet is a kind of virtual bank account that allows users to send or receive bitcoins, pay for goods or save their money. Unlike bank accounts, bitcoin wallets are not insured by the FDIC. So, before you get bitcoins, you’ll need to buy, download, or create a bitcoin wallet. This can be a fairly easy process. Though each bitcoin transaction is recorded in a public log, names of buyers and sellers are never revealed – only their wallet IDs. While that keeps bitcoin users’ transactions private, and untraceable. There are over 650,000 merchants now in the US that take Bitcoin and growing. There is even more around the world. To learn more, give me a call or send your question via email.

How to Get Over Fear from a Low Risk Taker: BY

SARAH

BROWN

I have worked with hundreds of people in Southern Nevada over the last few years to explore SBO (small business ownership). I always tell clients that unlike most of them, I never dreamed of owning my own business. SBO

Sarah's Bio Sarah Brown is a Franchise Consultant with FranNet in Nevada. Sarah was the Regional Developer for the Synergy HomeCare franchise in Colorado and grew the concept from one location to five in three years and sold her business in 2014. Sarah is passionate about working with candidates to find a business that best fits their lifestyle, skills and goals.

seemed way to risky for me, and I wanted to overly protect my hard earned capital. However, I had what I call my ‘watershed moment’ where my choices were to relocate with my corporate role, take a pay cut to stay in town or look at SBO through franchising. FranNet has a proprietary matching process that includes a Neurolinguistic programming assessment, and one of the things it measures is risk

Prior to her entrepreneurial ventures, she was an executive at Boston Market, Supply Chain Director for General Mills and served as an officer in the US Navy for five years. Sarah has a passion for animals, and has a formerly stray dog, and she sits on the board of two nonprofits that support Veterans.

tolerance. FranNet shows this under the name ‘Stages of Growth’ and an Intraprenurial profile indicates a high-risk tolerance where at the other end of the spectrum is Enterprise, which indicates a national footprint and high consumer brand recognition. You probably guessed that I am an Enterprise buyer, meaning I do NOT want to join a young franchise or cutting edge industry, so what made sense for me? My first franchise was a home care franchise with over 100 units. When I first had someone suggest home care to me I laughed and said, ‘I love my mom, but I don’t know how that qualifies me to own a home care franchise.’ Despite my hesitancy, home care was a great fit for me, because it is a recession resistant industry with a growing need amongst a very strong demographic – Baby Boomers.

Sarah is active in the community and is a proud Rotarian, volunteer with STWN, a graduate of the Leadership Henderson program and serves on the Board of Directors for the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. FranNet is a trusted educational partner of the SBA, SCORE, the Women’s Business Centers and ASBDCs, and Sarah conducts educational seminars across the Valley on entrepreneurship.

What is the right fit for you? If you are considering a change of scenery, consider exploring franchising. Approximately 75% of all franchise owners are ‘industry switchers’ meaning they do not have specific experience in that industry. Focus on the function of the owner first, NOT the function on the business.

Identity Theft Prevention [Series]

BY

MACK

Over 16 million new victims, and rising of identity theft are reported to law enforcement every year. According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. One in 20 adults are now victimized by computer fraud. The people who are the most vulnerable victims are the very young and the elderly. The technology of the Internet has bred individuals who are globally organized. Law enforcement officials are constantly being challenged by criminal activities of cyber criminals. The major effect of an increase in cybercrime is that individuals using the Internet feel less safe using this medium for electronic commerce. Consumers fear that hackers will intercept their personal information and commit fraud crimes. Uncertainty in consumer confidence in the electronic market would affect global commerce and consumer privacy. Knowledge is Power There are ways to protect your personal information. The best way is to be aware of your PII, personal identifiable information. The loss of your identity is a serious issue and it could cost you time and money to regain your identity.

JACKSON,

JR

1. Check your wallet and purse. ~ Don’t carry your Social Security card or the cards of your children or spouse in your wallet or purse. Normal daily activities do not deem it necessary to carry these items. Your Social Security card is one of the main sources identity thieves use to obtain your personal identifiable information. ~ If your Social Security number is on your health insurance card, remove that from your wallet or purse as well. Consider putting your driver’s license in a separate holder. This way, if your wallet is stolen, your license – and the personal information contained on it – may still be safe. ~ Don’t carry all your credit cards with you. If you carry only one card at a time, you cut down on the risk of someone gaining access to all your accounts. ~ Don’t carry a list of Internet passwords with you. Every Business Needs a Chatbot — How Computer Speech Will Change the World By Chris Mohritz

We all love a great conversation. And for decades artificial intelligence (A.I.) research has been trying to give computers the ability to join in on our conversations. Well, technology is starting to catch up with our aspirations. Fueling a craze around chatbots and intelligent personal assistants. Of course the tech giants are front and center with a new set of platforms: Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Facebook Messenger, and Apple HomePod. Each clamoring for developers to create new and interesting experiences for their users. And with the recent explosion of Alexa-enabled devices, it doesn’t take much imagination to picture a (near) future full of A.I.powered devices that are eagerly awaiting our beck and call. Devices that make our lives easier — and are deeply integrated into our daily routines.

So it’s no surprise that businesses everywhere are scrambling to voiceenable their products and customer interfaces. While the media hype tends to overpromise current capabilities, chatbots are quick learners. And I believe we are witnessing the birth of a revolution. A movement that brings natural voice interaction to every piece of technology we use. Welcome to the era of the conversational user interface. Conversation is the most natural form of communication for humans; we’ve been doing it since the dawn of time. And with the number of chatbot success stories growing every day, there’s no escaping their impact. And for good reason, they are tempting businesses with deeper customer engagement — and massive cost savings. What’s not to love?

Crystal Miller REALTOR

Living in Las Vegas for almost three decades, I have to say iʼve never been more excited to live in this city. I've lived in almost every corner of the city. While most of my classmates left Las Vegas to attend college. I graduated from Bishop Gorman High School and chose the University of Nevada Las Vegas. There was something back then about this city that had me captivated. With my marketing degree in tow, a few years back I decided it was time after working in hospitality for ten years to pursue my passion, Real Estate. I ultimately decided to get into Real Estate because as cliche as it sounds, I love houses. From the dilapidated fixer uppers to the luxury mansions, Each house has a unique personality and as a Realtor, I get to showcase that. I genuinely get attached to the homes, similar to when you meet a stranger that ultimately you hit it off with. From the wood planks to the vaulted ceilings, I love how each home tells a story. Also, I get to work with amazingly diverse clients. When most people think of Vegas, they usually associate it with an adult Disney Land. However, Vegas has more up her sleeve. Myself a nature enthusiast, I spend a lot of my free time biking the trails and hiking in Red Rock State Park and soon attending Raiders football games.. Living in Vegas, you always feel like you are a part of something new and electric. And recently that electricity has a lot to do with the real estate market. The Las Vegas market was hit hard by the recession and now is seeing a 9.7% increase in home prices, a 90% rise since collapsing a few years back. The median sales price in Las Vegas is $242,000 , a 12.8% increase from April 2016. The issue of low inventory nationally is shared locally. The decreased supply has resulted in substantial price gains for sellers. The average days on market has dropped to 42, with most listings receiving multiple offers. This sizzling sellers market translates to buyers having to get more aggressive. The tight inventory has migrated buyers to new construction homes where they arenʼt face with the competition of multiple offers. The housing market, like a scorching Las Vegas summer shows no signs of cooling off.
