The Secrets of Nonverbal Communication & How to Attract Your Ideal Client By Ashlynd Tuffentsamer

PAGE 21

Nonverbal communication is the secret language of business exchanges. This secret language includes our facial expressions, body gestures, and the way we dress. We are all familiar with the advice: "Don't judge a book by it's cover," but let's be real here; we are all judging and being judged based on appearance. I am sure most agree with me that effort and thought should be put into your wardrobe, but I rarely come across information on exactly what to consider when preparing yourself for meeting clients, investors, or when you are simply out and about, representing your business. This article sets out to do that. You have seconds to attract your ideal client. The first step in putting your best foot forward is planning. Consider the following:

BRANDING

MINGLE 702

What is my ideal client and what do they expect? Are you appealing to a mass market? Do you seek out high-end, VIP clients? Your networking wardrobe needs to match (or in my opinion, exceed) how your potential clients would dress. Maybe a two-piece suit is too stuffy for a sales call with a fellow Business Owner, but a nice blazer and some workappropriate denim will do. Psych 'em Out With Your Color Choices. Nonverbal networking will speak volumes (pun intended) for you when you tap into color psychology. Specific colors subconsciously sway our audiences; and appropriate use of them attracts your tribe. To name a few: Blue evokes trust, Red promises power, Yellow hints at friendliness, and Green promotes peace.

What is the vibe of the event I'm attending? You want to make sure your attire matches the theme of the event. Although a suit isn't always required when networking; there are quite a few business owners who do not know the difference between "Black Tie Optional" and "Business Casual" (There IS a distinct difference between the two!)

Your Brand Message + Your Wardrobe = Increased Prospects Whatever it is that you wear; make sure it combines and compliments all the other fabulous parts of BRAND YOU.

What is my brand message? Consider for a moment, your brand message. What adjectives can be used to describe it? Perhaps, for example, you are a Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay. The Mary Kay brand is approachable and friendly, and as such; YOU would be expected to dress in an approachable, friendly manner. Or perhaps you are a Lawyer; dressing in a way that upholds an impression in credibility would be a focus for you.

GEORGE BELL JUST TALL, THAT'S ALL One of Las Vegas’s newest additions is George Bell. He moved to the area less than one year ago from Virginia. He came here for a few reasons. Fame, intended or not, tends to court George Bell due to his incredible size. He stands at 7 feet 8 inches tall, and dreams of all kinds, even for extremely tall men, are made in Las Vegas. There are numerous advantages to living in Las Vegas for George Bell. It has the serene beauty of the desert, as well as casinos and night life that most single men enjoy. You will find George stalking the quiet side of Las Vegas. When he is not hustling to the airport to catch planes to exotic places, he enjoys wine clubs and the occasional game of black jack at a small casino. Ultimately, the desert heat works well to calm the aching joints of the tallest living American-born male. That height has afforded George an interesting life. In his youth, he played for the Harlem Globe Trotters, and travelled all over the world making people happy. After basketball, he went to work in law enforcement for the last 22 years. In his words, “being tall is a fulltime condition, but not a full-time paying job.” If you’ve been in Las Vegas recently, you may have seen George at the mall. The project closest to his

heart is his Stand Tall Against Bullying Campaign. The mall is a good place to access and influence children and parents. George Bell towers above the nation. Seeing him is not a thing one tends to forget. Most people who approach him and speak to him, find him to be a very kind gentleman especially to children. He has been described as a giant pied piper followed by a string of grinning children. Stand Tall Against Bullying is something that George Bell believes in and he wants this campaign to be his legacy. Born to “normal” sized parents, and in a family of “normal” sized siblings, George was 7’6” by the time he graduated high school. He knows what it is like to be born different; to be singled out for “special attention,” positive and negative. His eventual goal for the campaign is to lend his celebrity to the cause. Eventually George hopes to establish workshops, hotlines, and think-tank gatherings so that children who feel bullied can express themselves and find solutions. In the end, George Bell is a regular guy, who happens to be very tall. As he often says, “There’s nothing different about me, I’m just tall, that’s all.” By Mkatbelin

Networking and Giving Back: All Rolled into One Meeting By Dawn Young-Cruz

Being able to give back to those in need can be so rewarding … Right? As busy entrepreneurs and business owners it can be hard to find the time or even know where the need is in your local community. This is the exact reason why TEAM Referral Network launched the Community Outreach program over 15 years ago. TEAM gifts one local 501(c) 3 non-profit an annual membership per chapter to be able to be an active member of our category exclusive networking chapters. When I came to Las Vegas in January as a new Director bringing over 7 years of TEAM culture from CA, I was surprised that my new chapter Nevada Elite TEAM had not been able to fill non-profit category for quite some time. I was on a mission to find a non-profit for my new chapter here in Las Vegas to support. In the spring, I was blessed to be connected to Kelley McClellan, the Executive Director of Children's Heart Foundation Nevada. Kelly visited our group in early May and her energy and passion for the Children's Heart Foundation was infectious and the puzzle piece our chapter was missing. Kelly was excited and joined our group immediately to take the opportunity as she stated, "It felt like home." Just like a transplant and being a perfect match, the Nevada Elite TEAM chapter members were overjoyed to have her and the Children's Heart Foundation Nevada to be a part of the TEAM family. In just a few short months the organization has captured the members hearts and being able to directly help these local children and families.

Currently the Nevada Elite TEAM chapter is holding a donation drive for items that the organization is always looking for Diapers (size 4,5, & 6), baby wipes, nonperishable snacks, and low denomination gift cards ($25 or so for gas, grocery stores, Target, Walmart etc.) If you would like to participate, we will be collecting items through Aug 30th and you can contact me directly dawn@teamreferralnetwork.com. Children's Heart Foundation is gearing up for their 3rd annual Show Your Heart 5k/walk on Oct 7th. Charlie Kellogg, Joe Zaher Park, and, of course, the Nevada Elite TEAM chapter will be there with our whole TEAM and families walking and/or running as a sponsor. Come and join is in making difference and sign up to walk or run. Click here for more information: http://www.runwalk.events/E3.asp? eID=ShowYourHeartRun&SourceCode=RGtiny, Networking, Building Relationships, and Giving Back can be accomplished together. This blended opportunity for business professionals and nonprofits has proven and allowed many local TEAM members to serve two missions at once: growing their business through relationships and referrals while making a difference in their local community, a complete WIN -WIN for everyone involved. At TEAM, we say Together Everyone Achieves More! If you are interested in learning more please visit www.teamreferrralnetwork or contact me directly at dawn@teamreferralnetwork.com.

Dancing Stories for the Whole Child

By Arlene N. Cohen

What does a story make you feel and want to do? Enough of sitting and absorbing literature! Enough of living life in our heads, just thinking about stories. When we hear a story, we and the children in our lives reinvent it in our minds, putting the story characters, setting, and plot into the context of our life experiences. We perceive the images in the story in relation to what and who we know, where we have been, and what we have done. A young child has a large quantity of neurons capable of creating new synapses or thought patterns; if these neurons are not stimulated, they die off. Research by Piaget and other educators has shown that movement is a central part of the learning experience; it facilitates thinking and language development. Without movement to integrate subject matter, youngsters can develop learning disabilities. Children display speaking and reading-related behaviors from the time that they are infants so it is a good time to introduce activities that bring the words and images of a story to life and facilitate early literacy. Integrating movement with literature is a way to build literacy skills, grace, and aesthetic sensibility all at the same time. This early training for young children impacts their success, not only when they enter school, but throughout their lives. As story images stir our imaginations, we hear, smell, taste, and feel each of them in our own unique ways. Our impressions engage our muscles and our nerves and we want to respond. It is natural when we drawn into a good story, to want to express our perceptions. It is never too early or too late to share fun-filled literary adventures with children that integrate mind, body, and spirit! Involve babies in “The Bathtub Ballet, take children on story trips to Mexico, Africa, and Japan. (Programs from Stories on the Move: Integrating Literature and Movement with Children).

Dance with the chameleons in Dancing Rainbows and with the reptiles in Rockin’, Rappin, and General Recreatin’ with the Reptiles. Click on this link to access Dancing Stories by Arlene N. Cohen. You will also see the companion coloring books, as well.

Arlene N. Cohen was a Creative Movement Teacher and Dancing Storyteller in schools, libraries, and community centers for 30 years. She received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities, the Hawaii Culture and Arts Foundation, and the Regional Arts and Culture Council in Portland, Oregon to offer her unique programs and performances. She holds an MLS in Children’s Librarianship from the University of Hawaii where she was an Academic Librarian, and Storytelling Instructor in the Speech Department.

JELENA Jelena Daniels is an amazing teenager who cares about the children in her community. She runs a summer program in her church to provide healthy meals for children in the neighborhood, ages 5 - 12 years. She makes breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. Her favorite meal to make is Spaghetti which the kids love as well.

On Fridays, she packs a special care package to help the the kids through the weekend. Jelena is making a difference in their lives.  Mingle 702 will sponsor a back to school supply drive for the children in Jelena's program. The drive will be at our mixers on 8/7 and 8/21.. Teen-preneurs like Jelena need our support.

MINGLE 702

Can your Business Run Without You? By Rena McDonald, Esq. Over 50 percent of all small-business owners are 50 or older, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. That means many of America’s 28 million small business owners are coming to the point in their lives when they need to think about a transition for their businesses. A survey done in early 2015 by CNBC and the Financial Planning Association found that while 78 percent of small-business owners intend to sell their businesses to fund their retirements, fewer than 30 percent have a written succession plan. That’s not a recipe for success. A good plan covers both the human resources aspects of a transition and the financial details, particularly if your succession plan is supposed to generate the money you will live on during retirement. It’s also a good idea to have a succession plan if you intend to sell your business to change careers. Here are some points to keep in mind when you sit down with your lawyer and accountant to draft your succession plan:

while allowing this employee to run the business. Remember that the Ford family, which still controls a portion of voting power in Ford Motor, hasn’t always offered the CEO position to a family member. On the money side of things, if you’ve been in business a long time, chances are you have substantial equity in the business, which will need to be reflected in the sales price. That may mean instead of an outright sale, you structure the transition as a gradual sale or a lease. Either option can provide you with an income stream and lessen the financial burden on the new owner. There are loan programs that can help a qualified buyer to finance the purchase of a business over as many as 10 years. But other forms of finance might also be needed. For example, to purchase the building in which the business operates, upgrade its equipment or maintain a line of credit during the transition.

Your succession plan could envision keeping your business within the family, who likely already knows your business and brand. But be sure to carefully check with family members before you designate a family successor to make sure they have the same desire and passion for the business as you do. Many small-business owners assume their kids want to take over their companies, when in fact their children may have very different dreams and desires. If one child wants to stay in the business but the others don’t, you may need to have a discussion about how the equity in the business will be divided. If your children don’t want to own or lead the business, you might then want to see if one of your employees does. You can consider selling the business to that employee as part of your succession plan, or retaining family ownership

Here at McDonald Law Group we know what it takes to secure and protect your investment concerns when involved in a business. Please call the office to schedule a free consultation. This article was provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice or establish an attorney-client relationship.Nevada’s Question 2 passed with 54 percent of the vote and was one of 7 states that passed similar measures this past election cycle. Essentially, it decriminalized the recreational use of marijuana which took effect starting January 1st, 2017. Very little guidance was provided in the legislation regarding how the measure applies to employers, so companies had to navigate through this new policy until further legal clarity comes forth. Nevada legislators have finally made headway and are providing guidance to the distribution of marijuana. As a result of Question 2 passing last fall up to one ounce of marijuana will be available for sale beginning July 1, to those 21 and older. This will be the first time recreational marijuana is available for sale in the

Silver State. Even though possession of marijuana became legal Jan. 1, there were no places that had the go-ahead to sell it. With this new legislation, it is important that business owners understand the new laws and how they apply to their business to avoid complications. First, it is recommended that businesses update their personnel handbooks, compliance policies, and guest-use policies immediately. If you are not sure what policies you can implement, now would be a good time to consult an attorney experienced with employment law. Being proactive now will prevent problems and could save you stress or unforeseen expenses in the long run. The demands to maintain a safe workplace means that employers have a substantial interest in the use of recreational marijuana by their employees. In order to minimize the employer’s liability in workplace accidents, employers should establish rules that prohibit employees from being under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the workday. LAS VEGAS 2017

Home Buyer Tips and Insight A

s many of you know, The era of the NFL "Las Vegas Raiders" is soon upon us following the addition of our "Golden Knights" NHL team. This is an exciting time, not only for sports fans, but also for the expansion of our city, Las Vegas, as a whole. Our Real Estate Market has been blessed with tremendous gains this year alone. Though many may see a correlation between our overall progression and the sporting expansion; this easy link has actually yet to effect us. This chain of events is predicted to realistically impact us in roughly 2-3 years. I expect this to absolutely strengthen our economy, create more jobs, and new reasons to attract tourists to a city that thrives off of its strong reputation,

and a healthy flow of foreign funds. Take note - what we're actually seeing here is artificial inflation based on supply, demand, a shortage of housing, and a slowly increasing interest rate. As the rates increase, our Buyers begin to lose some of their "Buying Power," meaning they will no longer qualify for as much of a loan, or be able to keep their monthly payments where they'd want it to be. If you wear these shoes, you'd have to hypothetically sacrifice from your max budget if you want to remain in the same comfort bracket you were in months prior. Meanwhile, if you happen to be a Buyer in our current market, and you've been hunting, viewing, and offering on 5-6 homes that fit your criteria, you'd literally experience the struggle. You could see yourself living in any of those 5-6 and you would be proud to own any one of those you offered on.

In the beginning you started offering less; hoping for a deal. Then when that didn't work, you began offering list price asking for little to no concessions. ...Yet you keep getting beat. So you ask the Agent on the other side. "Hey, what gives?! We've prepared a clean offer at exactly what you had asked for on the MLS!" You begin hearing answers like "We had multiple offers all over asking price" and "A cash offer came in and we couldn't pass up a sure thing". ...But you did your homework. There's no way this home would appraise for higher than the asking price. Then you're told the competition agreed to contribute ( X ) towards their offer price in the event that the home appraises below the agreed upon purchase price. Time to adjust. Continued on Page 26

Many are doing just that, ultimately feeding the essence of inflation here. On the seller's side, we make it a point to make sure our marketing is top of the line with 4k Video Walkthroughs and Target Marketing to drive the demand straight to the best homes before or right as they hit the market. With low inventory the options are extremely limited, so each and every advantage is priceless. Expect they're doing the same. Regardless of which side you're on. Make sure you have a strong line of communication both with your Agent, and with your Lender.

It truly is vital to your success. For more Expert Insight and any other questions you may have about the Las Vegas Real Estate Market, make sure you reach out to us anytime for timely, accurate, and insightful advice and guidance. Sherlock 4 Homes James McGuire 702-280-3410 The McGuire Group Signature Real Estate Sherlock4homes.com Sherlock4homes@gmail.com
