THE JAZZ AGE FOYER AT THE SHERATON GRAND LONDON PARK LANE The greatest twenties interior in London it is pure flapper as designed by Henry Tanner in 1927. More or less intact with its deco carpets, marble staircase, silver framed chairs and incredible murals drawn from Greek mythology it leads to a ballroom where one might easily imagine Louise Brooks doing the Charleston while Chaplin and Rudolph Valentino look on. Piccadilly, Mayfair, London W1J 7BX THE GRAND LODGE (THE MASONIC HALL IN HOLBORN) Although a Masonic building had stood on the site since 1717 the first Freemasons’ Hall in Great Queen Street was designed by Thomas Sandby (and later extended by Sir John Soane) on a narrow site fronted by the Freemasons’ Tavern and opened in1776. Since then , just as the organization itself expanded, there has been a gradual expansion of the original site, which not completed until the 20th century , now stands in all it’s glory. The main meeting place for illustrious Masons this magnificent Hall has seen the likes of the poet Voltaire, Mozart and his father, writer Rudyard Kipling, composers Gilbert and Sullivan and Prime Minister Winston Churchill pass through it’s doors to do their curious business. Today the Masons have in part thrown off the cloak of secrecy and opened this building to the public on regular guided tours. However it is still a working lodge. Freemasons' Hall, 60 Great Queen St, Holborn, London WC2B 5AZ F.COOKE PIE AND MASH Joseph Cooke, owner of "F.Cooke" comes from one of the oldest pie and mash families in the world. In 1862, his great grandfather opened the first London shop and today, Joe Cooke is the fourth generation of pie and mash experts to occupy this splendid establishment.
