Who I Am

Design And Me

An outgoing individual.

An owner of two cats.

A 'simple things in life'

A persistent duolingo Focused doodler.

A reliable friend who

The biggest influence in me choosing to become a designer is due to my dad. My most vivid childhood memories are involved in being surrounded by the nostalgic smell of wood and sawdust, and my dad explaining what he currently was making and how each part fits to make a final outcome. As a child I had a deep interest in movies, it was not hard for me to imagine the world from the movie come to life around me. Although a cliche, but playing games like sims and prison architect have just fueled my passion for building and creating.

One main person that I idolise would have to be Wes Anderson, his cinematography is a pure form of art that showcases the storytelling while still engaging the background with the viewers. I admire how nieche his style of directing is, his use of symmetry and colours that are bold yet complimentary has alwasy fascinated me, the outcome of his movies create a visual aesthetic appeal, but also a harsh barrier between fiction and reality. It motivates me to perfect my craft to then reflect my style of design that it may be recognised amongst many others. I used one of his colour palettes that I am featuring throughout my portfolio, with the help of Pantone to get the colour codes. appreciator. streak holder.

PROJECT 1 ENQUIRY

ROYAL WILLIAM YARD

This projects brief and focus was on understanding the site. We were given the site 'Melvile Building' in Royal William Yard in Plymouth. Due to it being a historical building our reaserach was focused on historical aspects and so the design was influenced by history.

PROJECT 2 SPECIALIST SKILLS

UPSU PROJECT

This project was about re-designing the students union space that had miscellanious uses.

We visited the site and analysed the issues of the space, providing the users with a new use of the space or accomodating to the existing users.

I chose to accomodate to the existing users of the space, providing a space for heating up food and a study area as well as a hang out area for some.

I wanted to make the pillars connect to the arches to form a room devider, by adding tinted glass I was able to achieve that thought, without obstructing the view and minimising the sound you can be connected to the people in the kitchenette and the ones on the couches.

Plan sketch layot of the different zones in the space, showing the two entry ways and amount of seating space.

It was important to incorporate wheelchair access into all of the space, to not discourage some users from using each zone.

My initial plan for the space was testing the conversion of the beams into a no pass through zone and creating a loop in the space for the people to move through.

I added archways into the space to soften the

Concept sketch for the back of the room for bigger groups and how much the reading nook curves.

The best way to encourage people to read would be to add comfort, such as floor cussions which provides more areas to sit and creates a sense of control for the users in a social environment. The space being open also allows wheelchair users to partake in the activities. Adding wooden beams in the space acts as soundproofing, as well as zones that space to being the reading corner.

For this space I intended to mirror the kitchenette with group spaces.

Plan view of the space and its materials.

PROJECT 3 HOTEL PROJECT CIVIC CENTRE

This projects brief was to design a hotel in the civic centre Plymouth, showcasing a different type of experience for the users in the hotel.

Envisioning differetn concepts of travel, hospitality and propose new solutions for hotel guests by demonstrating innovation in space design & guest experience.

Exploring biomimicry or biomimetics through analysing animals and their habitats to solve human design challenges.

-using biomimicry to design a large retail office in Zimbabwe in 1991 by Mick Pierce. The challenge was to design this building without using air-conditioning.
