As spring blossoms across Southlake, so, too, does the local real estate market—and what a season it's shaping up to be. Despite national headlines pointing to uncertainty, here in our corner of the world, opportunity is knocking – often with multiple offers in hand.
Now more than ever, partnering with a local REALTOR® makes all the difference. Navigating today's dynamic market takes more than a Zestimate and a dream—it requires deep local knowledge, neighborhood insight and a savvy understanding of what buyers and sellers are really looking for. The professionals listed in our annual Super Agents section bring that and more to the table.
Although bittersweet, I've seen firsthand our robust and resilient real estate market in action through the eyes of some close family friends. As we celebrate our graduates from the class of 2025, they're also rejoicing in multiple offers on their homes. It's a trend we're seeing across the area— well-presented homes still move quickly. Our goodbyes have become good buys for the next generations looking to settle in our vibrant community.
Whether you're buying, selling, renovating or simply keeping an eye on the neighborhood, now is a great time to tune in to what's happening in local real estate. As always, Southlake Style is always here to connect you with the stories, professionals and insights that matter most.
Yours in Southlake Style,

Transform Your Smile Haven Dental Demystifies Cosmetic Dentistry
What Are the Most Common Cosmetic Dental Procedures?
Cosmetic dentistry offers a variety of treatments to enhance the appearance of your teeth and gums – it all depends on your smile goals and overall dental health. Some of our most popular options include professional teeth whitening, porcelain veneers that cover imperfections like chips or gaps, and dental bonding to fix minor damage with tooth-colored resin. We also use crowns and bridges to restore missing or damaged teeth, and Invisalign can provide a discreet alternative to braces.
How Much Does Cosmetic Dentistry Cost?
Cost is a major consideration when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, and prices vary based on the procedure, materials and complexity. Professional teeth whitening typically costs $300–$800, while porcelain veneers range from $900–$2,500 per tooth. Dental bonding averages $250–$600 per tooth, crowns cost $800–$2,000, and Invisalign runs between $3,000–$7,500. Because many cosmetic treatments are elective, insurance may not cover them, though certain health-related procedures might qualify for partial coverage. Financing options are often available.
How Long Do Cosmetic Dental Treatments Last?
The lifespan of cosmetic dental treatments varies based on the procedure, oral hygiene habits, and lifestyle choices. Teeth whitening can last up to 2 years, while porcelain veneers and dental crowns typically last 10–15 years with proper care. Dental bonding may last 3–10 years, and Invisalign results can be permanent. Maintaining good oral hygiene and scheduling regular dental visits help extend the longevity.
Is Cosmetic Dentistry Safe, and Does It Hurt?
A common myth about cosmetic dentistry is that it’s painful or unsafe, but that’s not true with modern techniques. Treatments like bonding and whitening involve little to no discomfort, while procedures such as veneers or crowns use numbing agents to minimize pain. For deeper work or anxiety, sedation options are available. Recovery is usually quick, with only mild, temporary effects like sensitivity or soreness.

We’re not for everyone.
Not every agent can be an agent with us. Here’s why. A Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty agent knows more, handles more, sees more and understands more. It’s what they’re famous for. In fact, we rarely call them agents. They are real estate advisors — entrusted with giving their clients informed guidance, accurate information, honest feedback, valuable tips, even moral support if they need it. (Emotions can run amok during a purchase or sale, you see.) These professional, passionate advisors are with us because of their track records, awards, certifications and reputations — the best of the best. We adore them. And we support them. We have unique tech tools that help them free up more client time. We have brokerage executives who help them grow their business. We have an in-house team of marketing pros who help them tell stories, about their properties and sometimes themselves. (They do not like to brag. We do that for them.) We also believe in our advisors’ enrichment. Mixers. Field trips. Lectures. Lunches. Classes. Networking events. Art shows. Awards dinners. It’s rather like a fine-tuned sports team, where everyone has your back and works together. Yes, every advisor at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty is a pro — smart, sharp, proven, respected. They are the local leaders backed by a global network, which benefits their buyers and sellers in all kinds of ways. A wide net. The first call. Priority access. Our advisors connect the best clients in the world to the best properties on the planet, from North Texas to Norway to New Zealand. In fact, calling them advisors may need a rethink. They are superheroes — able to leap over obstacles, soothe jittery nerves and save their clients’ sanity. And we are the brokerage stocked only with superheroes. We haven’t settled for less, since 1960 and counting. Why would you?

Tucked away in the quiet elegance of Westlake’s Terraces of Solana, Gallery 19C offers an unexpected portal to another time—an era of dramatic transformation, visual poetry and masterful brushwork. Specializing exclusively in 19th century art, this refined gallery is quickly becoming a significant player on the international stage, despite its low-key suburban locale.
“Most people say, ‘Oh my goodness, I didn’t even know you were here,’” laughs gallery manager Lois Lyda. “But when they find us, they’re blown away. It’s like discovering something magical hidden in plain sight.”
A PERSONAL JOURNEY TURNED PASSION
Gallery 19C was founded by Eric Weider, a seasoned art collector who transitioned into art dealing after more than two decades of collecting. His journey into 19th century art began with a teenage trip to Chicago.
“I went to see the Rolling Stones, not a museum,” Weider admits. “But we ended up at the Chicago Institute of Fine Art, and for the first time, a painting stopped me in my tracks. It was a Renoir.”
That quiet, unexpected moment changed the course of his life. Years later, a similar encounter at Christie’s auction house in New York led him to buy his first painting. That purchase marked the beginning of a love affair with the 19th century—a century of transition, tension and extraordinary creativity.
WHY THE 19TH CENTURY?
For many art lovers, the 19th century is eclipsed by the bold colors of Impressionism or the abstract energy of modern art. But for Weider and his team, the appeal lies in the complexity and depth of this transitional era.
“It’s the bridge between the old world and the modern world,” Weider explains. “You see the influence of the Old Masters, but you also see the seeds of modernism being planted. Politically, culturally, technologically—everything was shifting.”
Owner, Eric Weider
Despite its local setting, Gallery 19C boasts a global reach. In just the past year, the gallery has sold works to the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The acquisition process is part science, part art. While some pieces are discovered through auction houses, many arrive through direct inquiry. “Sometimes it’s like ‘Antiques Roadshow,’” says Lois. “Someone emails a photo of a painting they found in a garage. Most are nothing—but once in a while, we get a gem.”
Thanks to decades of experience, Weider and his team can often determine a painting’s value from a single image. “We don’t have to fly across the world to inspect every piece anymore,” Lois says. “We just know.”
The team also includes gallery director Polly Sartori, a veteran of Sotheby’s and Christie’s with 30 years in the field, as well as Agnès Penot, a renowned expert on 19th century art, responsible for compiling the comprehensive cataloguing for all paintings in their inventory. They partner with specialists to ensure that the precious paintings stay in top shape, such as a trusted art restorer who collaborates with the Dallas Museum of Art. “One painting came to us completely covered in soot from a fireplace,” recalls Lois. “Our restorer cleaned it using only Q-tips and her own saliva—turns out it’s the perfect pH for cleaning oil paintings.”
A COMMUNITY RESOURCE
Gallery 19C may deal in international treasures, but its roots in the local community run deep. It’s open to the public, free of charge, Monday through Friday. And the team is as passionate about education as they are about
“We’re not just here to sell,” Lois emphasizes. “We host events, lectures, school tours, even private dinners. We want people to fall in love with this art the way we have.”
Westlake Academy’s art students have toured the gallery, as have residents from senior care centers. “It was beautiful to see,” Lois says.
One particularly memorable event featured a live portrait demo by a local artist using 19th century techniques. “It made the paintings feel alive,” Lois recalls. “People were mesmerized.”
Weider also gives lectures on 19th century art history, sometimes for small groups, and sometimes for larger corporate gatherings. “We see the gallery as an amenity,” he explains. “For the office tenants here, for local families, for anyone who walks in. It’s like a museum where you can take something home—if you leave a check.”
ART WITH A SOUL (AND A STORY)
Many of the gallery’s paintings come with remarkable backstories. “One piece had been in the same family for over 100 years,” Lois says. “It was originally intended for a Paris salon, but the artist gave it to his children’s governess instead. It changed hands through marriages, deaths and finally came to us.”
The paintings themselves often carry marks of history— stamps, stickers and handwritten labels on the back that trace their journeys across countries and centuries. “It’s like detective work,” she says.
And that passion for storytelling extends to every guest who walks through the door. “Eric loves giving personal tours,” says Lois. “He’s a teacher at heart. If he’s in town, he’ll gladly walk you through the gallery himself.”
AN INVITATION TO DISCOVER
With roughly 40 to 50 paintings on display at any given time—and a rotating inventory of twice that many in immaculate storage—Gallery 19C is an ideal entry point for both seasoned collectors and curious newcomers.
“It’s the perfect place to explore,” Lois says. “It’s quiet, intimate, and not overwhelming like a giant museum. You can take it in one piece at a time.”
Weider agrees. “I’ve had visitors ask if they can just stop by with a coffee during their lunch break. Absolutely. We get people from the offices upstairs who come in just to unwind. That’s what we want.”
For those ready to delve beyond the surface, Gallery 19C offers a unique opportunity—not just to view great art, but to engage with it. To learn its history. To imagine its future.
And for Weider, it all started with a single painting. “That Renoir changed my life,” he says. “I hope we can be that for someone else.”
Gallery Manager, Lois Lyda
Raise The Flag
Southlake 3rd Graders Headed To Junior Olympics
Agroup of seven tight-knit Southlake third-graders from across CISD is making waves in the world of youth flag football. Known as NT Elite, these young athletes—who’ve been playing together since kindergarten—recently qualified for the first-ever flag football competition at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic Games, to be held this summer at Rice University in Houston.
NT Elite plays year-round across various leagues like Rise, Stampede and Ulete—often in older age brackets— and they still find ways to win. The team has reached the championship game in top-tier brackets 11 times, bringing home five titles. Most recently, they traveled to Orlando to compete against 61 teams from around the globe in a World Championship, where they finished second over -
all—an extraordinary feat for a homegrown team with no paid coaching or formal training program.
What makes NT Elite so special isn’t just their record— it’s their heart. “I am certainly proud of this team and their continuing accomplishments. This small-town squad defy the odds by consistently winning on the biggest stages,” says coach Tommy Roop. “At the Junior Olympics, they will not only carry their hometown pride, but the spirit of every boy with pure love for the game, ready to once again battle the world’s best.”
Balancing multiple sports and schoolwork, these boys prove that passion, dedication and community can go toeto-toe with elite programs. As they gear up for the Junior Olympics, Southlake is proudly cheering on a team that exemplifies what youth sports are truly about.

As homeowners seek to maximize their outdoor living spaces, pool and backyard design trends are evolving to blend luxury and functionality. Whether you dream of a sleek modern sanctuary or a cozy entertainment hub, today’s innovations make it easier than ever to transform backyards into a personal paradise.
Moses Campos, a design consultant for Southlake's own Claffey Pools and recent winner of the Million Dollar Pool Design Challenge, judged by the nation’s most elite pool designers, touched on a few popular pool trends heading into the summer of 2025. For those wanting a backyard upgrade, take notes.
ENHANCING THE PATIO VIBE
Covered space has become a must on many projects, Campos said. More covered areas give family members and friends the chance to enjoy being outdoors by the pool – without necessarily having to get in. While going for a swim is always enticing, more companies are fielding requests for backyard and patio enhancements around the water – so there’s always a reason to be outside.
“Consider that a home usually has a covered patio,” Campos said. “It’s much more common now to bring the seating areas out further away from the home. Creating destinations around the yard and pool give a different perspective and vibe.”
SHARP DESIGN
Less is more in the world of backyard pools. Pool designs are becoming more simple and minimalist in nature, with companies seeing an uptick in projects with simplistic water features, all-natural stone decking and the use of straight lines in the surrounding patio.
“It’s a timeless aesthetic,” Campos said. “Straight lines are usually for the person looking for a minimalistic and calm space. We’re also seeing on some projects simplistic water features near the ledges [of pools], which has become a nice direction for projects that want a calm and relaxing space.”
SHALLOW DEPTHS
A pool may have a “deep end,” but that’s becoming more an exception than the norm. Nowadays, the pool serves as a place to hang out, share conversation and enjoy a drink – without having to submerge yourself. Some designs, including one Campos oversaw, even requested a cocktail table built into the pool itself.
“This is perfect for drinks and conversation –or even game night in the pool,” Campos said.

Dine Like Draper Where Seasonality Meets Sophistication
In the critically-acclaimed cable series “Mad Men,” protagonist Don Draper frequented many of the restaurants along Madison Avenue in 1960s New York – with a particular fondness for those adorned with mahogany wood panels and a vibe of professional elegance and sophistication. That’s exactly the atmosphere the powers-that-be of Fort Worth’s newest restaurant, The Mont, hope to capture when the eatery opens later this spring.
The Mont is the brainchild of owner Jeff Payne, vice president of operations Jason Cross, and executive chef Michaell Duff. “I’ve wanted to open an upscale, chef-driven concept in the Fort Worth area for a long time,” said Payne. “We wanted a beautiful dining experience inspired by seasonality, fresh ingredients, world travel and our Texas roots.”
Amidst the dark wood paneling and intimate lighting, courtesy of Maven Interior Designs, the Mont will offer a menu featuring oysters, handmade pasta, woodfired fish and beef, of course – this is Cowtown, after all. The Mont team was intentional about adding a restaurant to Fort Worth that would fit with the city’s “food scene” – not to mention a scene from a Jon Hamm drama.
The trio’s goal is for a constantly evolving menu that is updated at least four times a year. “The menu will be based on what produce, meat and seafood is in-season,” Duff said. “Our approach is refined traditional cuisine inspired by seasonality using familiar ingredients, modern technique and global influence.”
One dish The Mont team is especially excited about is the beef tartare, which Cross said will be prepared with a “fresh spin.” The egg used in the dish will be transformed into a decadent sabayon sauce, and the steak will be seasoned with a truffle vinaigrette.
“We wanted to keep some classic flavor elements [in the beef tartare] and also lighten some ingredients up,” he said. “Seasonally we can change the flavors of the sabayon. We want the flavors to be intense, yet sharp.”
Or, as Draper said to his advertising underlyings: “Make it simple, yet powerful.”

Put This Sports Bar In Your Starting Lineup
On the hunt for a sports bar that serves more than just frozen mozzarella sticks and stale popcorn? Pour Sports in Trophy Club is your kind of place – a fullfledged sports haven decked out with 50-plus televi sion screens, restaurant-quality food and ice cold beer.
It’s impossible not to notice the collection of televi sions upon arrival. Let’s face it - for most customers, the screens, even ahead of the beer, are the most important part. Besides plasmas surrounding the top of the ac tual bar itself, a television can be found covering nearly every inch of the top section of the walls. The perfect vantage point exists for every game.
The food is legitimately good, too. The menu caters to diverse tastes, offering classic dishes – buffalo wings with house-made sauces, loaded nachos, pizza, chicken sandwiches and the Pour Sports Burger, to name a few – as well as a non-traditional sports bar selection that might have patrons discussing the food instead of the game.
Of note, customers can order the Baked Crab Spin ach Dip, flatbread pizza options like the Margherita flat bread, and the Chimichurri Steak Kebobs – juicy, grilled steak skewers drizzled with garlic-and-herb chimichurri sauce that will make patrons feel like they’re eating up scale while still keeping it casual. And trust us, the Pour Sports Vodka Pasta, with its signature tomato-and-vod ka sauce, should be worth the stop-in alone.
Complementing the food is an impressive selection of draft and bottled beers, along with a variety of cock tails and non-alcoholic beverages. The drink selection is like a well-executed game plan—there’s something for every play. Night-cappers can choose anything from the Pour Sports Old Fashion to the restaurant’s spicy margarita called Texas Heat, or a domestic Budweiser and a club and soda.
Whether you're a craft beer connoisseur, a cocktail enthusiast or just someone who enjoys a cold one with the game, Pour Sports has it covered. From smooth sips to bold brews, the drink lineup is deeper than a championship roster.

Finding Certainty In Uncertain
Exploring The Mystical Beauty Of Caddo Lake
Tucked away on the Texas-Louisiana border lies a place that seems untouched by time: Caddo Lake. With a maze of bayous, towering bald cypress trees draped in Spanish moss and the hum of nature, it’s the kind of otherworldly backdrop seen in movies. In the tiny town of Uncertain, Texas—population: less than 100—you’ll find exactly what you didn’t know you were searching for: peace, mystery – and maybe a few alligators.
Stretching over 25,000 acres of interconnected waterways, Caddo Lake is Texas’s only natural lake of notable size. It was formed by a massive logjam on the Red River called the Great Raft, though local legends
say it was created by the footsteps of the Caddo people’s spiritual ancestors. Either way, the lake holds centuries of stories. Once a bustling steamboat route and a site for oil exploration and logging, much of it is now protected land, thanks to Caddo Lake State Park and the National Wildlife Refuge.
Exploring Otherworldly Beauty
There’s no shortage of ways to experience the lake, whether you're an avid adventurer or a quiet observer. One of the most popular—and spellbinding—ways is by boat. Local guides offer swamp tours that wind through narrow channels where the moss hangs low and the re-
flections on the water are so perfect they look like portals. They’re also famously good at regaling guests with stories of the lake’s past– like how the run-down shack on the opposite side of the lake from Uncertain’s marina used to be a raucous speakeasy back when Texas was dry and Louisiana wasn’t.
For a more immersive experience, rent a canoe or kayak and glide through the watery forest at your own pace. Fishing is another favorite pastime here. Anglers come for the promise of trophy-sized largemouth bass, catfish and crappie, while birdwatchers bring binoculars for glimpses of egrets, owls, wood ducks and even the occasional bald eagle. With over 200 species of birds recorded, it’s a haven for wildlife lovers.
If you prefer your adventures on dry land, Caddo Lake State Park has miles of hiking trails that meander through the forest, offering scenic views and the chance to spot deer, armadillos and foxes. The park also has campgrounds and rustic cabins for those who want to stay overnight and fall asleep to the sounds of frogs and cicadas.
Perfect Timing
When it comes to timing your visit, each season brings something special. Spring and fall offer perfect weather, colorful foliage and fewer bugs. If hot and humid is more your style, summer might be the perfect time to visit, as the lake transforms into a lush green jungle. Just be forewarned: these country mosquitoes aren’t shy. Winter is quiet, often wrapped in mist, turning the moss-covered cypress trees into a dreamy, haunted beauty. These details and more are precisely why it was the supernatural setting for M. Night Shyamalan’s recent film “Caddo Lake.”
Uncertain lives up to its quirky name in charm and character when it comes to lodging. There are plenty of lakeside cabins, quaint Airbnbs and the occasional vintage trailer for rent. Nearby Jefferson, Texas, at just a 20-minute drive, offers historic bed-and-breakfasts and antique shops that make it worth a detour. As for food, grab a plate of fried catfish or barbecue from one of the mom-and-pop diners in the area—you won’t leave hungry.
If it’s your first time, pack accordingly: bug spray, sunscreen, waterproof shoes and a healthy dose of curiosity. Always check the weather before venturing out on the water, and remember that while alligators are shy, this is their home.
No, Caddo Lake doesn’t offer flashy attractions or perfect cell reception. But isn’t that the point?
Carroll Jazz Band Director Turns Scales Into Soul
Music has always been more than a passion for David Lown—it’s been a calling, a career and a lifelong pursuit of excellence. Since joining Carroll ISD, Lown has built one of the most respected high school jazz programs in the nation. A GRAMMY nominee for Music Educator of the Year and Carroll ISD’s 2013 Teacher of the Year, he has already led the Carroll Jazz Orchestra to the finals of the “Essentially Ellington” competition an extraordinary six times. This month, Lown returns to New York where he began his career, not as a performer, but as a mentor, leading his students for the seventh time as they represent Southlake Carroll at “Essentially Ellington”. As they take the stage alongside the nation’s top 30 high school jazz bands, Lown continues to shape not just great musicians, but lasting legacies.
MY MAIN INSTRUMENT… is the tenor saxophone, which I have been playing since the fifth grade. I also play all of the saxophones, flutes and clarinets.
I HAD A GROWING SENSE… that teaching may be my calling. [When in college,] I had the opportunity to direct the University of North Texas 4 O’Clock Lab Band [one of nine worldfamous jazz bands at UNT], and it was really fulfilling. I lived in New York City for a while with my wife, and while I loved living there, I started to feel that I should be teaching. We soon moved back to Texas.
AS THE CARROLL JAZZ BAND DIRECTOR… I am very blessed to be able to fully focus on jazz and Advanced Placement Music Theory. I do get to work with the marching band, and I love getting to be part of it. This is especially true now that I’m also a Dragon Band dad.
FOR ME, MUSIC EDUCATION… is about helping students find their voice while holding them to a high musical standard. Music education matters to millions of kids.
TO QUALIFY FOR THE “ESSENTIALLY ELLINGTON” FINALS… takes a huge amount of forethought, planning and hard work. Although we have had more success than most schools around the country, we have also had many years of disappointment.
FOR THIS YEAR’S BAND… the majority of them have experienced not hearing their names called as finalists [for the “Essentially Ellington” competition] for the past two years. I could certainly
tell this year that the band had an especially tight focus on getting [invited]. Because it has been so hard-earned they all appreciate every little perk and all the moments that are coming along with this achievement.
I WANT MY STUDENTS TO… understand the fundamentals of musicianship at a deep level, but more than that, I want them to be fearless, to listen carefully and to take creative risks. We bring in many guest artists, we study the greats, and we prepare for big moments – but at the end of the day, it’s about creating an environment where students are excited to show up, to work hard and to make music that feels personal and alive.
IT’S INCREDIBLY MEANINGFUL… to be a part of the growing process during such a pivotal time in my students’ lives. I believe – deeply – that we need master teachers in classrooms now more than ever; people who are committed to building communities, shaping character and keeping the arts alive in schools.
I CONSIDER MYSELF… the richest person in Southlake – not because of anything material, but because I get to spend my days helping young people grow through music.
I BELIEVE JAZZ… offers this beautiful balance between structure and freedom. It teaches discipline, but it also celebrates individuality. I want students in the program to all find a love for this powerful music that is so central to our ideas of freedom and expression in this country. Jazz is uniquely able to unblock curiosity, humility and empathy in people, and the impact of this reaches far beyond music.
