At Flying W Ranch, we strive to breed cattle that excel on a range environment. Our cows are expected to be fertile, early maturing, and easy fleshing. They must calve unassisted and care for their calves on their own. 99% of our calves are born outside with no assistance and only the trees for protection.
Where Performance and Growth is Bred in, Not Fed On Generations of selection without feeding creep feed has allowed us to identify the superior maternal bloodlines of our herd. The yearlings offered on our sale were raised on only grass and their mother’s milk with NO CREEP FEED. As yearlings, they have been developed in a range environment with a high forage and low concentrate diet. These bulls have been bred and raised to work for you!

SHOOTIN' THE BULL with
Doug Miller DMTC CONSULTING
by Derek Sample. Derek@ABPmag.com
Emails. Calls. More emails...
Everyone wants to know: Who is Doug Miller? Let’s introduce the MINERAL MAX mastermind
Derek: Hey Doug. Please introduce yourself to our audience.
Doug: My name is Doug Miller, and I own DMTC Consulting, based in Celina, Ohio.
Derek: Where's Celina compared to Cleveland? Or Akron?
Doug: We're actually 45 minutes southeast of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and 45 minutes southwest of Lima, Ohio. Out in the middle of nowhere. Pretty flat.
Derek: What's the industry like in that area? Is it mainly agriculture?
Doug: It's agriculture. Mercer County used to be in the top five in the country. I don’t know if they still are, but they’re probably in the top ten for animal agriculture in the U.S. Lots of birds—turkeys, chickens.
Derek: Yeah. What about cattle?
Doug: There are a lot of cattle around. Just not in the numbers that would put it in the top ten in the country. But to answer your question, most of the business around here is ag-related.
Derek: Did you grow up there?
Doug: No, I grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Derek: So how did you end up in Celina?
Doug: A job in dairy nutrition. I worked for two national companies and traveled a lot, while going through a divorce and everything, but I was looking to stay in Ohio. I drove a truck for a little bit. I had offers in Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, South Dakota, Minnesota, Texas, and Nebraska. But I knew if I got too far out of Ohio, I wouldn’t get to see my son.
Doug: Yeah. With the national companies, I wouldn’t stop anywhere that didn’t have at least 400 cows milking. This place had me working with herds ranging from 20 cows to maybe a couple hundred. Anytime I got a big deal going that had some distance, they’d mess it up.
Derek: Is that why you decided to go out on your own?
Doug: Yeah. We did a lot of research, especially as the Veterinary Feed Directives (VFDs) were coming into play. We knew there had to be a better way. So we spent a year—maybe longer—on research, bought some ingredients, put products together, and started giving them away.
Derek: "We"?
I ended up driving a truck twice while looking for jobs, found a mom-and-pop business in this area, and instead of traveling four or five states like I used to, they tried to keep me in three counties. I was bored to death.
Derek: Knowing you as well as I do, I can definitely see that!
Doug: Yeah, I have a partner in all of this. She did a lot of the research. She knew essential oils better than I did—probably still does.
Derek: So, when people tried the products, they kept coming back for more?
Doug: Exactly. They liked them, and when they ran out, they wanted more. That’s when we knew we had something viable.

"When they ran out, they wanted more. That’s when we knew we had something viable"
Derek: Does your partner still work with you?
Doug: Yes, she does a lot of the research but not as much on the production side. Her name is Tracy Cseh.
Derek: Tell me a little about her background.
Doug: She’s a certified aromatherapist and has a lot of training in Reiki.
Derek: How did you two meet?
Doug: Penny stocks! We got into trading penny stocks and realized pretty quickly that wasn’t a long-term plan.
Derek: Most people learn that fast!
Doug: Yeah. It was going to take forever to make real money. We started messaging each other, and eventually, we started talking about livestock nutrition. She knew essential oils, and at the time, I was living in an apartment in Sidney, Ohio.
We got big enough that I no longer had room to work out of my apartment. That’s when I started looking for a place with a garage, and we moved to Celina because housing was cheaper here. We outgrew the garage
in a year, so we moved into a 3,500-squarefoot facility.
Derek: Wow, is it all production space?
Doug: Yeah. It’s all production.
Derek: Do you have other employees?
Doug: Yes. My son works full-time, plus we have two or three part-timers who help when things get busy, which is every day now.
Derek: Is your son interested in the business?
Doug: He's very interested, but he’s high-functioning autistic (PDD-NOS), which means he's great with his hands and a master mixer and blender of the elements. He makes all of the Mineral Max now and he doesn't miss a thing. He also helps with filling syringes, and making boluses. He loves running the machines.
Derek: That’s awesome. How old is he?
Doug: He’s 27. His name is Max.
Derek: Does he have other interests?
Doug: Yeah, he and my ex-wife moved from Columbus and started a mini farm. They have six dogs, four Babydoll sheep, and are looking for a couple of Highland cows. They also have chickens and are hatching more.
Derek: That sounds exciting!
Doug: Yeah, keeps him from being on his phone all the time <laughs>
Derek: Alright, let’s talk about your products. We get so many phone calls and emails asking about your line of products. What was the first one that made you realize, "Okay, we need to get out of this apartment"?
Doug: Mineral Max. We were doing boluses and drenches, but we ran out of space fast. When we tested Mineral Max on a

friend’s farm, orders started coming in and we couldn't keep up. That’s when I knew we needed a bigger setup. We moved into a 2,500-square-foot space, which we later expanded to 3,500 square feet.
Derek: Tell me more about Mineral Max. We already know that everybody loves this product. People I've talked to can't say enough good things about it. I should say Congratulations but I know you're too humble to hear that. :)
Doug: It's a popular product. Mineral Max is a mix of essential oils, microbiology, and moss. It reduces E. coli, Clostridia, and coccidia by 90% or more. It also helps with fly, lice, mosquito, and tick control.
Doug: It depends on the operation. In beef herds, it’s often mixed into free-choice minerals. Dairy herds mix it into the TMR. Some smaller livestock operations mix it into feed directly. It’s designed to be versatile.
Derek: Does it work for multiple species?
Doug: Yes—cattle, goats, sheep, swine, poultry, and even rabbits. Farmers mix it into feed or minerals.
Derek: How do most producers incorporate Mineral Max into their feeding programs?
Derek: I keep seeing pictures of truckloads of Mineral Max on Facebook—big shipments going out across the country. How widespread is your reach now?
Doug: We’re in 42 states and growing. We ship everything LTL.
Derek: That’s incredible. Are you able to keep up with demand, or are you looking at expanding again?
Doug: We’ve become really efficient with our production process. Small orders ship the next day, and large orders go out within a week. We’re always thinking about the future and we'll expand as the demand keeps growing. We even made 2,000 Big tubes this afternoon that'll serve 2,000 big cattle or 4,000 calves.
Derek: Do you have independent dealers, or do you sell mostly direct?
Doug: We’re always adding independent dealers. A lot of them started out as customers who saw the results and wanted to sell it themselves.
Derek: What does it take to become a dealer?
Doug: A basic knowledge of livestock, a willingness to learn, and signing a sales agreement with an NDA. We provide educational materials and support, but we want to make sure they’re serious about it.
Derek: That makes sense. Let’s talk about your other products. You recently introduced a few new pastes, right?
Derek: I’ve been hearing great things about them. Sounds like these new products are growing fast.
Doug: They are. In the last couple of months, we've sold over 5,000 of the small syringes and quite a few of the large ones, which are designed for multiple doses. The bigger tubes are popular in feedlots.
Doug: Yes. We’ve got 'FIRST', 'ACTIV', and 'BIG'. 'First' is a calf paste given after colostrum to support gut health. 'Activ' is similar but contains activated charcoal for scours. 'Big' is designed for incoming stockers and feedlot cattle—it helps get them on feed, drinking water, and adapting quickly.
Derek: I know that you also have Blue Goo and Dabba Goo—what are those?
Doug: Blue Goo is a copper sulfate-based treatment for hairy warts. It usually works with one application, healing in four to seven days. Dabba Goo is a zinc oxide, iodine, and herbal blend for treating abscesses, corns, and major cuts.
Derek: That’s really interesting. Are they pastes as well?
Doug: Yeah, they have a Play-Doh-like consistency. Blue Goo is turquoise, and Dabba Goo is dark brown to black, depending on the zinc oxide used.
Derek: How long do these products last?
Doug: They’re labeled with a one-year shelf life, but we’ve tested Mineral Max that was over two years old, and it still exceeded label guarantees.
Derek: That's great. I also seem to remember creating an Ad for another product, was it CalfPow? I love that name.
Doug: Oh yeah! CalfPow is designed for bottle calves and goat kids. It’s a two-to-fivegram dose that helps calves start eating solid feed sooner while supporting rumen development.
Derek: That’s a great name. Where did it come from?
Doug: NCIS. We had a little fun with it, and the name stuck.
"We found a way to keep cattle healthy— without relying on drugs and at a lower cost."
Derek: That’s fantastic. I remember I designed a graphic for it with a comic-bookstyle “POW!” in the background. That turned out great!
Ok, so you’ve been on the road a lot lately—what kind of events are you doing?
Doug: I was just in Iowa for a presentation with a new distributor. They wanted training for their sales team, office staff, and buyers. It went really well.
Derek: Who traveled with you?
Doug: Loras—he helps with dealer recruitment and sales. He’s always out there pushing the product.
Doug: Yeah, he believes in natural products and what we’re doing.
Derek: Do you ever get pushback from people who don’t believe in natural solutions? Or how about the science based medicines out there?
Derek: So he’s your top dealer?
Doug: Yeah, I’d say so. He likes to open up new areas and get distributors set up. Once they’re established, he moves on to the next.
Derek: He’s really passionate about what you do.
Doug: Not much. The industry is shifting toward natural products, just like in Europe, where antibiotics have been largely removed from animal agriculture.
Derek: That’s a big change for some.
Doug: Yeah, but it’s making livestock healthier. We just try to keep our heads down and do our thing.
Derek: Have any big-name companies taken notice of what you’re doing?
Doug: Oh yeah. One of our longest-running customers was spending big money with a big manufacturer. Then the first year they
switched to Mineral Max, they cut their bill by $15,000. Then that big manufacturer started sending people out to see why this customer stopped buying their products.
Derek: So, they see you as competition.
Doug: Probably. They still check in on that customer a couple of times a year.
Derek: Do you think other companies are trying to copy what you’re doing?
Doug: We’ve had some farms try to make their own version. One big operation used to buy from us, then tried making it themselves. They failed miserably and haven’t bought from us since.
Derek: They're embarassed they couldn't figure it out.
Doug: I don’t know. Maybe it's their pride. They probably just went back to using drugs.
Doug: Yeah, he should be ordering again soon. He’s really happy with the results.
Derek: That’s great. He was just named Commercial Gelbvieh Producer of the year. I heard you also helped him with his bull’s hoof issue?
Doug: Yeah, he used Blue Goo and Dabba Goo, and it healed right up.
Derek: I might give him a call about that and I created a custom logo for his ranch and he ordered a bunch of our hoodies for his team.
Derek: For cattle producers, what’s the biggest takeaway about your products?
Doug: We have big herds that have been using Mineral Max for years. Some customers have been with us for nearly a decade. Between a few major operations, there are over 100,000 stockers on our products.
Derek: That’s impressive. What about Joe Sacco—did his order come through?
Doug: Yeah, those look great.
Derek: So if someone wants to learn more, how do they get in touch?
Doug: They can call me directly, and I’ll connect them with the closest dealer. If we don’t have one in their area, they can order directly from us.
Derek: Perfect Doug, thank you.
Doug: Always a pleasure!
The Proof’s in the Pasture Real ranchers are saying it loud
“We’ve been using MINERAL MAX for over nine years now,” said Frosty, who runs about 3,000 head annually. “Doug is incredibly knowledgeable in animal nutrition. I’ve had issues in the past, and he actually came out, did some work, and helped us get things straightened out. MINERAL MAX has helped clean up pathogens on our farm—it works if you use it consistently.
I wouldn’t keep using it, or keep writing checks for it, if I didn’t believe in it.”
- Frosty Gregory. Gregory Brothers. Gallatin, TN
“We’ve been really happy with Doug's products,” said John. “We use MINERAL MAX religiously in our mineral program and supplement pellets, especially during weaning. It helps reduce stress and smooths the transition from mom to the feed yard. We also started using Doug's new FIRST & ACTIV pastes this spring and have been very pleased. It’s worked well controlling scours in our January and February calves— gives us peace of mind knowing they’re protected from bugs during that vulnerable time. The products are simple, effective, and do exactly what we need.”
- John Millar. Millar Angus. Sturgis, SD
“We’ve had incredible results with Doug's products,” said Yvonda. “With Highland cattle, pour-ons just don’t work because of their thick coats. After learning that MINERAL MAX works from the inside out, we gave it a try and saw excellent fly control within two weeks. The real test was winter lice—and we didn’t have to treat once. That’s astonishing compared to previous years.” She added that they’ve also used FIRST and ACTIV pastes. “Our fall calf crop had milk scours, and even when I had to mix the two pastes 50/50, one dose cleared them right up. I was so happy with the results, I became a distributor. I’ve seen firsthand how well these products work.”
“We started using MINERAL MAX last year, and it’s been a great product,” said Joe, who runs over 1,000 head on 247,000 acres and was named 2024 Commercial Producer of the Year by the American Gelbvieh Association. “It helped control E. coli and coccidiosis in the feed yard, and the cattle actually ate their mineral better with it. Even with our custom program—developed after a major health challenge in the herd— we saw the value in adding MINERAL MAX. I’d recommend it to anyone who can get it. It works.”
