Philadelphia, PA
Whether planning a signature event, hosting a meeting, or celebrating a milestone, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) is emerging as one of Philadelphia’s most distinctive venues for private events, offering a one-of-a-kind backdrop in a flexible venue rooted in history and hospitality.
Boasting striking Georgian Revival architecture, modern AV capabilities, and exclusive access to one of the largest and most significant archival collections in the country (over 21 million items, including manuscripts, books, and graphic images representing more than 400 years of American history), HSP transforms events into immersive experiences.
Showcasing rare national treasures like the first handwritten draft of the U.S. Constitution, Martha Washington’s manuscript cookbook, or personalized document displays reflecting a guest’s industry or heritage makes it a venue where history surrounds guests and becomes an integral part of the experience.
Founded in 1824, HSP is one of the oldest historical societies in the U.S. and a premier center for historical research. Located just blocks from Independence Hall, its vast collection offers insights into the people, cultures, and movements that shaped Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the nation.

“We don’t just host your event; we help you tell your story and create an experience your guests can’t have anywhere else,” says Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s chief development officer, J.C. Hatalski. “We curate a personalized display featuring rare, original documents that connect directly to your organization’s history or interests.”
“A group from Penn Medicine hosted a dinner in the Reading Room, and we curated a display focused on its history. It included letters from Ben Franklin about the first hospital, and books by some of its first medical professors. The display also included historical photos from Penn Medicine throughout the years. These artifacts and the countless others we have in our archives can only be seen here, so the Historical Society of Pennsylvania isn’t just a venue – it is privileged access to treasures few ever see, creating an experience your guests will never forget,” Hatalski proclaims.
Other event displays have featured rare items, too, including: an 1860s copy of the Emancipation Proclamation featuring Abraham Lincoln’s signature; the first plan of Philadelphia from the Penn Family Papers; assorted memorabilia, including photos, magazines, and newspapers from the Philadelphia Phillies Collection; and original

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania partners exclusively with Catering by Design, which provides a fullservice culinary and event design team. From gourmet menus to florals, lighting, and décor, they bring a

Here, pickleball, padel, golf, squash, and soccer share the spotlight with elevated design, chef-driven food and beverage, fitness and recovery amenities, cultural and fashion-forward moments, and event spaces as dynamic as the experiences they host.
Steps from Penn Treaty Park and minutes from Northern Liberties, Society Hill, Center City, and I-95, Ballers is uniquely positioned for corporate off-sites, team building experiences, client entertainment, and milestone celebrations. Membership is not required.
Once the beating heart of Philadelphia’s power grid, Ballers has transformed this historic power plant into an electrifying social sports destination. At Ballers, the venue is part of the entertainment.
Event hosts can treat guests to a lineup of premium sports and activities, including: Pickleball (6 indoor, 2 outdoor) and padel (3 indoor, 1 outdoor) courts; Squash (2 indoor) - perfect for competitive duos or instructional clinics; Golf (4 simulators and a short game practice area) paired with private lounge spaces; Turf field for soccer, wellness activations, and customized turf programming.
ERIENCES
Each experience can be reserved privately or programmed with custom tournaments, lessons, or casual play, ideal for breaking the ice or sparking friendly competition.
Beyond the courts, the hospitality experience at Ballers includes a stylish restaurant and bar serving elevated tavern fare with a social sports club energy. For larger gatherings, Ballers partners with top area caterers to provide custom menus for receptions, banquets, and corporate events. Pair that with a front-of-house team known for genuine hospitality for a food and beverage program that shines in any format, including seasonal menus, local spirits, and creative catering options for everything from cocktail receptions to passed bites during gameplay.
The Ballers team works alongside planners on every detail, from sports programming and court transformations to catering, AV, and guest flow, ensuring a seamless, stress-free experience. From intimate client dinners to 700-person corporate takeovers, Ballers was purposebuilt for versatility.
Spaces can be adapted to meet the planner’s vision, offering: a private event lounge and mezzanine with views of the action; full AV capabilities and customizable branding opportunities; transformable spaces, such as converting pickleball courts into banquet seating; and access to nearby parking, public transit, and hotel accommodations.
Ballers made its debut on the event scene by hosting high-profile celebrations, including the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Ring Ceremony, showcasing the venue’s ability to deliver unforgettable experiences. With over 50,000-square feet of entertainment space and endless ways to customize it, Ballers makes it easy to create events guests will talk about long after they leave.
to experience different cultural attractions in a unique and intimate way. Philadelphia Zoo is an urban oasis where transformative memories are made, and people will not forget the time they went to the zoo for a corporate event, birthday party, or wedding.”
Philadelphia Zoo’s passion for conservation helps save wildlife. An event here is unlike any other in the region. For many attendees, the zoo is a place they have fond memories of visiting as a child and would jump at the chance to experience the wonder of its 42-acre gardens and come faceto-face with its 1,900 animals. “As America's first Zoo, we are always creating new experiences for guests, including our brand-new aviary Flamingo Cove, a new virtual reality experience Wild Explorer, and - opening in 2026 - Carey Bear Country,” notes Walker.
For events, Philadelphia Zoo works in partnership with Aramark, whose team can create custom menus for events, offering a full range of dining options from sit-down plated meals to gourmet buffets, specialty foods at its concession stands, and dining dollars for guests.
“Our 42-acre campus offers a variety of venues, including our largest private indoor venue, Garden Pavilion, that can host 150 guests for the most talked about corporate picnics. Other options include the Rare Animal Conservation Center Atrium, situated steps away from some of the zoo’s liveliest primates for wild birthday parties and cocktail hours. For a more formal setting for company meetings, we have our Shelly Administration Classroom, which is steps away from where your team can bond while feeding giraffes. The zoo also is an excellent setting for hosting nonprofit 5k runs.”

This winter, Philadelphia Zoo will offer nightly rentals at the Tiger Terrace dining room for corporate and private parties during LumiNature, its fantastical winter light show experience. For events, all outside vendors must be approved by the zoo, but clients can bring in: AV, sound, DJs, entertainers, and furniture rentals.
Add-on experiences are available for events at Philadelphia Zoo, as well. Behind-the-Scene Tours are semi-private meet-and-greets for getting up close and personal with animals and the keepers who care for them. Tours include hippo feedings, big cat training sessions, porcupine paintings and more.
Animal Ambassador Meet & Greets offer the opportunity to have one of the zoo’s animals “crash” the event. “Our charismatic ambassador animals include Peanut the red-footed tortoise, Bili the prehensile-tailed

skink, and Nebula the chicken. Along with an animal, a knowledgeable member of our Conservation Education team will be there to answer any and all questions,” explains Walker.
Other opportunities include: Veterinary Hospital Tours for a behind the scenes look at animal care; Horticulture Tours, where an expert horticulturalist leads guests through the zoo and describes each garden area and the plants that benefit local pollinators; and Premium Tours, which include a dedicated tour guide through the zoo, offering a behind-thescenes experience, and lunch with a conservation expert.

Mountain Meetings
For planners in search of serene settings with plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation and team building along with ample space and accommodations for meetings and retreats, heading to the mountains can be a great choice.
Representing just a sampling of what is available throughout the region, each of the following mountain destinations has much to offer, where groups will find outdoor experiences, outstanding dining, spa services, and an array of other opportunities that can be paired with scenic views and serene surroundings.
HAPPY VALLEY
(Centre County, PA)
“Holding corporate retreats, meetings, or team building activities in an inspired destination such as a mountain location sets the stage for successful outcomes, leaving teams feeling refreshed, more connected, more creative and motivated,” observes Dave Gerdes, vice president of sales and marketing for the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau. “It can provide the reset that many executives and corporate teams need to continue operating at a high level.”

Happy Valley witnessed record visitation in 2024, proof that more meeting planners, leisure travelers, and athletic tournament organizations are discovering this dynamic central Pennsylvania destination,” Gerdes adds.
Affectionately known as Happy Valley, Centre County, PA is a picturesque, safe, and affordable destination. Home to Penn State University, Happy Valley is accustomed to hosting events ranging from large-scale athletic events and tournaments to midsize and small conferences, as well as association meetings – all with a reputation for offering excellent hospitality.
Several full-service downtown hotels, including the iconic and recently renovated Nittany Lion Inn, provide meeting and conference attendees with access to vibrant downtown restaurants and shops. Surrounded by 750,000-acres of public land, Centre County also provides scenic outdoor spaces for teams to connect and recharge, and offers plenty of options for creative, unique team building outings.
“Geo-caching is an enjoyable group activity that incorporates technology and problem solving. The Happy Valley GeoTour is a great way to explore the area, as well,” says Gerdes. “For groups with an affinity for Penn State, consider a campus scavenger hunt. For more adventurous groups, nearby state parks and forests welcome team hikes, including climbing Mount Nittany, a defining feature of the landscape in and around State College.”
Indoor climbing at Climb Nittany is a great alternative for those who prefer to stay inside. Team building cooking classes are served up at Tastebuds Kitchen, and Happy Valley Improv offers workshops for professional development at its State College Blue Brick Theatre. “Improv can help groups unlock creativity, improve communications skills, and learn to handle the unexpected,” explains Gerdes.

way for teams to decompress,” he continues. “For something truly unique, meeting planners can organize a formal cheese tasting with award-winning, Amishowned Goot Essa. For a wellness focus, Kaleidoscope PA offers watercolor and other creative workshops for a colorful group therapy session. The scenic ridges and valleys throughout Happy Valley enhance the memorable recreation and team building options found here.”
POCONO MOUNTAINS, PA
“Hosting a meeting in the Pocono Mountains can help attendees recharge while surrounded by inspiring views,” declares Sarah Farrell, regional sales manager, Pocono Mountains Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“Getting outdoors naturally encourages focus and creativity, so attendees return home refreshed and ready to take on that next big project. Creative options for team building in the Pocono Mountains allow groups to make deeper connections and strengthen relationships.”
Easy to reach, the Pocono Mountains offer diverse venues with scenic backdrops. Planners can find everything from grand ballrooms at Mount Airy Casino Resort to spacious convention centers at Kalahari Resort & Conventions to intimate, luxury lodge settings at
Skytop, Woodloch, or The French Manor. Add to that a plethora of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages, and the Poconos offer an enticing mix of comfort and adventure.
“The mountain backdrop adds a layer of natural beauty and adventure that turns Pocono team building into a core memory,” Farrell proclaims. “Ziplining at Camelback, team hikes to Bushkill Falls, and the ropes courses at Blue Mountain are perfect for groups seeking team building and a bit of fresh air and action.”
Those looking for a more relaxed setting will appreciate the award-winning golf course at Mount Airy Casino Resort, cooking classes at Pocono Organics, and spa retreats at the Lodge at Woodloch - all of which provide them with time to unwind and recharge while connecting with nature - and with their team.
“There’s something about being in the mountains that naturally encourages people to slow down, breathe deeply, and shift their perspective,” says Erica Bloch, associate director of communications, Woodloch in the Pocono Mountains, PA. “For groups, that sense of escape is invaluable. A mountain setting offers both tranquility and inspiration – you are surrounded by fresh air, beautiful views, and a pace of life that is so different from the hustle and bustle of the office. It helps
Kalahari Poconos 5 Bedroom Big 5 Suite
people feel more open, creative, and connected, which is exactly the mindset you want for meetings, planning sessions, and retreats.”
Woodloch has been family-owned and operated for over six decades, and that spirit of hospitality comes through in everything they do, Bloch assures. Once attendees arrive, the property provides them with a true escape. “We offer flexible meeting spaces with beautiful views, full-service catering, and an experienced team that works side-by-side with planners to make sure every detail is covered. What really sets us apart, though, is the variety – we are not just a meeting venue, we are a full destination.”
Home to The Lodge at Woodloch, a nationally recognized and awardwinning spa resort, a championship golf course, and so much more to meet the needs of any group.
“Recreation and connection are at the heart of the Woodloch experience,” says Bloch. “Groups can bond over classic activities like our famous Woodloch ‘Olympics,’ boating on the lake, golf tournaments, or evenings around a campfire. For teams looking for something different, we also offer cooking challenges, escape rooms, and seasonal activities like snow tubing or ice skating in the winter. The mountain setting makes all these experiences more memorable – you are not just doing an activity, you are doing it against a backdrop of stunning Pocono Mountain scenery, with the fresh air adding to the energy and excitement. It is that blend of fun, nature, and togetherness that keeps groups coming back year-after-year.”
There is something about the Pocono Mountains that helps people reset and recharge. The peaceful, scenic setting creates a true sense of escape while still being easily accessible. For planners, that means attendees arrive more focused, present, and ready to engage.
At Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, the mountain backdrop is complemented by a thoughtfully designed convention space featuring Africaninspired art, calming music, and a signature scent, all of which contribute to an environment that fosters clarity, creativity, and connection.
Kalahari Resorts in the Pocono Mountains is a fully-integrated meetings destination with everything under one roof: 205,000-square feet of flexible meeting space; nearly 1,000 guest rooms; on-site AV and tech support; full-service dining; and an experienced team dedicated to seamless group execution. Kalahari also offers complimentary parking, access to nearby nature trails, a 24-hour fitness center, and included waterpark access - all adding value for attendees and convenience for planners.
“Kalahari’s offerings make it easy to balance work and play in a way that elevates the entire group experience,” notes Lisa Slotkin, senior sales manager as part of the convention sales team at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in the Pocono Mountains. “The surrounding Poconos landscape offers natural inspiration for outdoor team building activities like guided hikes or scenic group walks, while on-property options range from ropes courses and escape rooms to indulgent spa treatments and private dining at Double Cut Steak House.”
“Evening entertainment includes live music at Redd’s Piano Bar, which gives teams plenty of opportunities to unwind and connect after-hours,” Slotkin adds. “No matter the preference, we have something for everyone!”
HOT SPRINGS, VA
“The most wonderful aspect of a mountain setting is the sense of peace and the surrounding natural beauty,” declares John Hess, director of sales and marketing, The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa. “This environment fosters a level of calm in attendees, enabling them to focus better and remain engaged throughout the meeting or event. Our resort has a strong connection to nature, highlighted by our historic hot springs located both on-site and in Warm Springs, Virginia.”
Many mountain resorts are sprawling rather than vertical, which provides guests with more personal space and secluded areas to gather their thoughts and reflect, Hess continues. The weather in the mountains is typically cooler, too, which encourages the use of out-
door event spaces. “When a meeting is held in a ballroom with no windows, it could be ‘Anywhere, USA’.”
“In contrast, a mountain setting with genuine outdoor connections and natural light unmistakably identifies the location,” Hess adds. “This connection has a grounding effect, resonating strongly with guests. We believe this grounding improves return on investment for planners, as attendees distinctly remember their visit, helping to keep alive the memory of what they learned during their time here.”
Mountain resorts uniquely differ from city properties and the urban lifestyle that many attendees experience daily. Hess believes this difference carries substantial value.
“At The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa, we offer a variety of unique venues for group functions of all sizes. Our meeting spaces are abundant with natural light, and we have numerous areas that connect directly to the outdoors. We provide multiple outdoor venues that boast stunning mountain views and picturesque sights of our historic hotel,” Hess explains.
Omni Homestead Resort & Spa
Additionally, Omni Homestead offers a range of engaging activities for groups, including two championship golf courses, a championship sporting clays facility, a world-renowned spa, Warm Springs Pools, hiking, biking, equestrian activities, kayaking, snow sports, and team building activities.
“Our groups love to take advantage of the many amenities available at the resort, creating memorable experiences that attendees can share during networking events,” says Hess. “This level of engagement significantly impacts both the event itself and the attendees’ overall experience. It is truly special to offer all this in an iconic, historic setting. Many of our groups also allow attendees to bring their families to experience the resort, providing them with valuable family time between work commitments.”
Omni Homestead offers a wide variety of recreational options on-site that are suitable for groups. Golf and sporting clays are the two most popular activities, as they can accommodate a larger number of attendees. Some groups choose to split into smaller subgroups, allowing some members to enjoy the spa and swimming pools while others engage in things like pickleball, golf, archery, or horseback riding.
“Our recreation team also can create custom experiences tailored specifically to the group’s needs,” says Hess. “Recently, we hosted a ‘Great Race’ event where attendees competed in various sports - archery, axe throwing, cornhole, scavenger hunts, and more. They participated in small teams, competing against one another for prizes and awards.”
“Additionally, we have hosted many culinary events designed for friendly competition between small teams,” Hess adds. “Finally, we organize team building events that benefit local organizations, such as food banks. These activities prove valuable for the organizations and rewarding for participants, as they contribute positively to the community.”
These meeting destinations are all-season resorts that offer opportunities for attendees to relax and recharge while connecting with nature. Mountain settings are an ideal choice for those seeking an escape from the everyday and the enrichment of boundless adventure.
Whether in search of solitude as part of a meditative retreat or energetic team building programs, planners will find a wide range of offerings and activities available to meet their needs.

BUFFALO & NIAGARA, NY
Buffalo is a city with character, history, and heart. It welcomes visitors into its story, offering experiences that are authentic, creative, and transformative. The local food scene is diverse and innovative, and it is a city rich with history and extraordinary architecture.
Visitors can discover seven Frank Lloyd Wright structures, including the Martin House, explore six Frederick Law Olmsted designed parks, the historic Michigan Street Baptist Church, and the Colored Musicians Club & Jazz Museum - one of the nation’s oldest black-owned clubs. It is set to completely reopen by 2026 after renovations. Nearby in Niagara Falls, take in more of the region’s unique history at the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center.
Outdoors, visitors can enjoy year-round views of Lake Erie or explore the waterfront park and Erie Canal district known as Canalside.
“No matter the season, sports are at the core of our identity,” observes says Patrick Kaler, CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara. “Whether it’s Bills football,
Sabres hockey, Bandits lacrosse, or Bisons baseball, no visit is complete without catching a game.”
“Each fall and winter, Buffalo comes alive in ways that are uniquely ours,” Kaler explains. “At Canalside, the state’s largest outdoor ice rink sets the scene for skating, curling, and our oneof-a-kind ice biking experience. Indoors, The Buffalo AKG Art Museum is home to a worldrenowned collection by artists like Picasso, Warhol, Pollock, and Frida Kahlo.”
This fall and winter, visitors to the AKG art museum can experience “Northern Lights,” a landmark exhibition through January 2026 of 71 Nordic landscape paintings, including works by Edvard Munch and Hilma af Klint. Shea’s Buffalo Theatre, a 100-year-old art deco masterpiece, is a must for nationally touring Broadway shows and live performances.
In East Aurora, the Roycroft Inn is a cozy Arts and Craft refuge and an elegant dining stop for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On a snowy day, visitors can warm up with a hot drink by the grand fireplace.
Just beyond the city, state parks like Knox Farm State Park turn into natural winter playgrounds, ideal for snowshoeing or simple group walks in a snowy landscape. Adventurous groups can head to Chestnut Ridge Park for a hike to the Eternal Flame Falls, where a natural phenomenon of a small natural gas flame burns on a grotto behind a 30-foot waterfallespecially lovely against a backdrop of changing leaves.
“One of the most beautiful times to visit Niagara Falls is during the winter, when it’s surrounded by snow and mist has frozen on nearby trees,” observes Kaler. “These seasonal spots show a side of Buffalo that is easy to miss, but well-suited for groups who want something out of the ordinary.”
For a lesser-known local seasonal activity, visit the Burchfield Penney Art Center, which specializes in showcasing work by Western New York artists. This winter, visitors can explore “Patterned World,” a special exhibit of wallpaper designed by Charles Burchfield, the museum’s namesake.
In addition, Buffalo offers two outdoor European-style holiday markets where people gather to eat, drink, shop, and get into the spirit. At the 145-year-old Richardson-Olmsted Campus, The Buffalo Holiday Market brings together twinkling lights, heated igloos, and chalet-style shops for five consecutive weekends starting November 28th. Then there is Hofbräuhaus Buffalo, which offers a distinctly German-inspired experience with traditional foods, horse-
where meetings meet MEMORIES
drawn carriage rides, gifts, and holiday rituals that run for five consecutive weekends beginning November 21st.
The village of East Aurora is also a magical place to be during the holidays. It is the location of Hallmark’s Bills-themed holiday movie, “Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story,” opening in December. It also is home to uniquely local traditions like Carolcade, set for December 21st, which brings together more than 2,000 carolers to sing, sip hot chocolate, and celebrate the season. No holiday visit to East Aurora is complete without a stop at Vidler’s 5&10, a nearly century-old variety shop whose retro charm makes it the perfect place to browse for gifts.
ERIE, PA
Erie is a year-round conference destination that offers groups unique activities and warm hospitality with each season bringing its own charm - sparkling lakefront summers, vibrant fall colors, snowy winter adventures, and blossoming spring views.
“Lake Erie Wine Country offers tastings and tours year-round, but nothing beats harvest season in September,” declares Hannah Stancliff, director of convention sales and services, Visit Erie. “The 22 wineries along Lake Erie’s shoreline feature a variety of events and fun experiences for groups both large and small, including live concerts and grape picking. Conference goers appreciate the opportunity to step out of the boardroom and into the sweet-smelling vineyards where they learn about this vital port of Erie’s agriculture and history.”
Port Farms is an autumn hot-spot perfect for an off-site meeting and outing. The property boasts a modernized barn venue with AV, hayrides, fire pits, group games, pumpkins, and Poverty Knob Farmhouse Ales (an on-site brewery), providing groups with a destination for mixing business and fall fun.
“For groups interested in venturing outdoors, Asbury Woods’s Winter Wonderland each December offers a snow-covered boardwalk surrounded by holiday lights - plus free admission! For groups looking to keep the fun indoors, I recommend catching an Erie Otters Hockey game and
treating your group to the banquet room overlooking the area,” advises Stancliff.
POCONO MOUNTAINS, PA
The Pocono Mountains region of Pennsylvania offers more than 2,400square miles of year-round adventure and magnificent surroundings, including picturesque mountain landscapes, pristine lakes and waterfalls, and charming towns with award-winning resorts. Whether it is hiking in summer, fall foliage tours, or winter skiing, each season brings its own signature experiences, making the Poconos an outstanding destination anytime for travelers of all ages and abilities.
Known for its “fall vibes" and sweater weather perfection, the Poconos is a standout destination for travelers looking for the perfect autumn getaway, with traditional favorites like apple picking, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, hayrides, and farmers markets. Fall foliage excursions, such as train rides on the Stourbridge Line, and events like Quiet Valley’s Harvest Festival or the Black Bear Film Festival in Milford make for quintessential autumn memories.
As temperatures dip, the winter months add frosty fun to the schedule. “Our favorite snow activities include skiing and snowtubing at local ski areas like Camelback, Blue Mountain, and Jack Frost,” says Sarah Farrell, regional sales manager, Pocono Mountains Convention and Vistors Bureau. “Cozy après-ski dining and entertainment, plus special events like Camelback’s Ullr Fest and Pond Skim, keep the fun going all season long.”
The Pocono Mountains CVB also shares “hidden gems” with visiting groups as a way to create unique experiences for them, Farrell adds. Itineraries can include guided waterfall hikes, hop-on, hop-off wine trolley trips, private candlelit dining at historic spots like The Settlers Inn, tastings at Mountain View Vineyard, autumn paddles on the Delaware River, behind-thescenes brewery tours, and more.
“The Poconos region served as inspiration for the lyricist of the timeless song ‘Winter Wonderland,’ and our holiday calendar is packed with events like Olde-Time Christmas in Jim Thorpe, ice carving at Hawley’s Winterfest, and Winterfest in Stroudsburg, twinkling displays at Milford’s Tree Lighting, horse-drawn sleigh rides at scenic resorts, and more unforgettable seasonal group experiences,” Farrell proclaims.

boutiques, coffee shops, and more. The area is an attractive destination any time of year, whether for cozy holiday strolls and spa escapes in winter, for outdoor dining and local festivals in spring and summer, or exploring the countryside and foliage in fall.
“Fall and winter are when Lancaster and the surrounding area really shine,” says Joshua Nowak, general manager, Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square. “With autumn comes apple picking, corn mazes, and foliage drives through Lancaster County’s scenic hillsides. And visitors can immerse themselves in the traditional rural lifestyle of the Amish with a horse and buggy tour and visit to a real Amish village.”
During winter, Lancaster transforms into a wonderland of cheer and coziness, Nowak continues. “Visitors can enjoy seasonal productions at the Fulton and Prima Theatres - Elf will be playing from November 21st through December 28th at the Fulton, and Illumination, an immersive candlelit holiday concert, is playing at the Prima from November 21st through December 23rd.
Dutch Wonderland transforms into Dutch Winter Wonderland beginning in November, creating magical seasonal excitement for families and children. The Strasburg Railroad offers holiday-themed train rides during the winter season, offering picturesque steamtrain rides and giving riders their very own ‘Polar Express’ experience.”
The Lancaster area is full of under-the-radar seasonal things to do that are perfect for group gatherings, as well. The culinary scene here is very culturally diverse -
groups can enjoy it through a walking tour, where they can dine on international cuisine while being led around town by a professional tour guide.
Lancaster County also is known for its covered bridges, sometimes referred to as “kissing bridges” because of their romantic allure. Groups can follow a map of over 25 covered bridges throughout the county on a driving tour for multiple scenic photo ops.
“There are so many local holiday happenings and winter experiences taking place just steps from the Lancaster Marriott,” explains Nowak. “Every year, the Mayor’s Tree Lighting brings together locals and visitors alike to gather in excitement as Penn Square is illuminated for the holiday season. This year’s tree lighting will be on Friday, November 28th… Small Business Saturday is the following day, and it is a great way for groups to enjoy the spirit of community, strolling throughout downtown Lancaster, while supporting the city’s local artisans and entrepreneurs.
Santa himself makes multiple visits to Lancaster City throughout the season, and groups can catch him this year on December 5th, 6th, and 13th.”
KENNETT SQUARE, PA
About 30-miles outside of Philadelphia in Kennett Square, PA is one of the world’s great gardens. Longwood Gardens is a place of ever-changing seasonal beauty, handcrafted feats of horticultural wonder, and an awe-inspiring collection of plants from around the globe. Visitors can explore and enjoy its nearly 200acres of lush, formal gardens, open meadows, woodlands, fountains, a 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ, grand conservatories, and winding pathways to scenic Brandywine Valley vistas.
“Fall at Longwood is marked by our Autumn’s Colors display and our extraordinary Chrysanthemum Festival, which begins in late October,” notes Carolyn Nash, associate director of special events at Longwood Gar-
dens. “One of the largest and oldest chrysanthemum shows in the U.S., the festival features more than 5,000 chrysanthemums in hues of yellow, orange, lavender, maroon, and more carefully grown into whimsical forms of spirals, obelisks, and cascading clouds.”
As winter approaches, A Longwood Christmas transforms the gardens into a glowing celebration of seasonal splendor. Trees glitter with ornaments, half a million lights dot the landscape, and strolling carolers fill select evenings with holiday cheer. The Open Air Theatre features 750 water jets dancing to holiday favorites during five-minute shows that run throughout the day and evening.
“The holiday season is truly memorable at Longwood,” says Nash. “Our new event space, The Fountain Room, offers a warm and elegant space for both day and nighttime celebrations. Imagine your event against the backdrop of the Gardens in full holiday splendor coupled with unparalleled
culinary artistry. Luncheon receptions are available for groups of 50 or more guests, while evening receptions begin at 100 guests.”
“The Legacy Room also is an option during A Longwood Christmas for more intimate social or corporate group sizes of 30 to 50 people,” Nash continues. “Enhance your event with furniture, staging, a dance floor, and more. From start to finish, events during A Longwood Christmas are unforgettable.”

advantage of the many arts- and history-focused festivals and events, tours, and attractions during the autumn months.
Southern Delaware’s natural beauty and laid-back vibe have attracted a large and talented population of artists, artisans, crafters, and performers for decades, creating flourishing visual and performing arts throughout multiple venues from the Atlantic Ocean to the Nanticoke River - all year round.
“Our area has long been a hotbed for artists of all kinds and that’s abundantly evident from the quality and quantity of arts and entertainment options,” says Scott Thomas, Southern Delaware Tourism’s executive director.

Southern Delaware museums, attractions, events, and tours spotlight Native American, agricultural, maritime and military, natural, industrial, architectural, social, aviation, and railroad history. Sussex County’s charming towns each have their own fascinating tales to tell, too.
Adds Thomas, “Our area has a rich history dating back to well before the colonial period that visitors and even many locals are not aware of. Our Fall for History promotion gives us the opportunity to work with our partners to highlight this history and all the heritage assets that we are so fortunate to enjoy throughout Sussex County.”
THE WILDWOODS, NJ
September marks the start of the Wildwoods’ “Second Season.” With less crowds, mild temperatures, attractive off-season rates for accommodations, and a packed lineup of events, festivals, and activities, there
is no better time to explore and experience the Wildwoods.
One of the defining features of this Second Season is the variety of restaurants, wineries, breweries, and events that come to life in and around The Wildwoods.
As the temperature cools, seasonal fare, including fresh catches from the ocean and back bays, fall-inspired sips from breweries and area wineries, and traditional shore favorites delight visitors who want to enjoy the entertainment and flavors of the Wildwoods after the summer season.
The Wildwoods are in the midst of an ever-burgeoning wine country, and the phenomenon is no coincidence; the sandy soils, along with Southern New Jersey’s unique mild climate, make the area surrounding the Wildwoods an ideal environment for grape growing and wine making.
In the fall, The Wildwoods offer a variety of restaurants and eateries with little or no wait times, as well as popular breweries, distilleries, and nearby wineries, and these favored Wildwoods’ establishments embrace the change of season by offering one-of-a-kind, autumninspired creations.
A growing number of premier restaurants are located throughout the five-mile island, each garnering glowing reviews from critics and patrons alike. The Wildwoods’ upscale restaurants offer memorable surroundings, remarkable cuisine, and attentive service.
The Wildwoods also host multiple events at this time of year, including: the Irish Festival; Olde Time Italian Festival; Food and Music Festival; Restaurant Weeks in September and December; and holiday events featuring unique bites, themed sweet treats, and seasonal beverages.
The Wildwoods charming, smalltown atmosphere comes to life during the Second Season, too, with smaller crowds offering a truly unique experience. Each season in the Wildwoods has a unique and visually stunning effect on the local environment, surrounded by the island’s signature Doo-Wop mid-century architecture, quaint appearance, numerous small businesses, and friendly locals.
A fall getaway to the Wildwoods simply is not complete without a visit to the world-famous boardwalk. Overlooking the pristine beaches of the Wildwoods, it offers a unique experience. Home to some of the most iconic flavors and tantalizing scents of the Jersey Shore, the boardwalk’s many attractions and amusement piers - open weekends throughout the fall – combine with flavors from around the world and the iconic, traditional boardwalk fare that visitors have loved for decades.

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD
National Harbor is a 350-acre mixed-use waterfront destination with 3,400 hotel rooms along the Potomac River, just minutes from Washington, DC. Since opening 18 years ago, it has grown into a premier resort and entertainment hub, attracting over 15.2-million visitors annually.
Developed and managed by the family-owned Peterson Companies, National Harbor features a Waterfront District - a lively area offering boutique shops, diverse restaurants, elevated entertainment, interactive public art, a marina, over 3,000 residents, six hotels, and more than 500 festivals and events annually.
It also is home to Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, the East Coast’s largest non-gaming hotel and convention center, which features nearly 2,000 rooms and 600,000-square feet of meeting space. Its hallmark event, ICE!, attracts visitors to the area during the annual Holidays on the Potomac celebration.
MGM National Harbor offers fine dining from worldrenowned chefs, luxury accommodations, a 3,000-seat theater, and one of the largest gaming floors outside of Nevada.
The Capital Wheel soars 180-feet above the Potomac River, a fully-enclosed observation wheel that has become an iconic symbol in the metro DC skyline, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a new million-dollar lighting upgrade. Tanger National Harbor is an outlet center with 85 premium brands. A water taxi connects visitors from National Harbor to Alexandria, VA to the Wharf DC from March - December.
“Fall brings festivals like CocktailPro and Harbor Halloween, in addition to six community walks,” notes Jamie Rice, director of sales and tourism at National Harbor. “During Christmas time, National Harbor lights its 60-foot animated RGB tree with a nightly light show that starts at sunset and continues every half hour until 9:00 p.m.”
On Sundays, watch holiday classics on a jumbo screen. The season kicks off on November 8th followed by fire-
works every Saturday until December 27th. Guests also can stroll the streets at the holiday market on weekends starting November 29th through December 21st on American Way.
“You’ll feel the holiday spirit at the theater at MGM National Harbor with their several holiday shows, including Cirque Dreams Holidaze and Christmas together concert. After the shows, guests will enjoy the popular Conservatory as it turns into a winter wonderland display,” says Rice.
Christmas at Gaylord National returns to the DC region with a seasonal holiday favorite, The Polar Express. ICE! will bring this holiday classic to life, carved out of twomillion pounds of ice. A team of 40 world-class ice artisans from Harbin, China create the sculptures using a centuries old art form. Overnight guests and visitors will get the chance to relive the beloved film in this interactive frozen experience from November 14th through January 4th. The attraction is kept at a crisp 9degrees Fahrenheit by a state-of-the-art chilling system, and guests are provided a Gaylord National signature blue parka to keep warm.
In addition to the ICE! attraction, the resort will be packed with events and activities for families and people of all ages to enjoy, including: an immersive walkthrough Christmas Village for family fun, holiday shopping, and tasty hot chocolate. Snow Flow Mountain’s indoor snow tubing offers a thrilling ride down real frozen ice lanes.
Cirque: Spirit of Christmas is a live stage show featuring acrobatics, feats of flexibility, and high-flying stunts in a Broadway-style spectacle in the Gaylord National Atrium. The “Here We Glow A Caroling” laser light show celebrates and highlights the tradition of caroling doorto-door through thousands of glowing lights and a custom score. Specialty holiday sweets are hand-crafted by the resort’s pastry team in the newly opened Capital Confectionery. Boozy hot chocolate and whiskey-based cocktails are available at the newly opened Whiskey Revolution tasting room.
“Because it provides so many hotel rooms, restaurants, event venues, and is known for its conventions and
meetings, National Harbor is open to creating a wide array of memorable group outings,” explains Rice. “From sing-alongs at Bobby McKeys Dueling Piano Bar, large private karaoke rooms at Live-K Karaoke, to street block parties, restaurant and event buyouts, private boats, waterfront parties to private concerts in MGM National Harbor’s 3,000-seat theater, National Harbor is capable of creating the most memorable group gatherings.”
Small groups also can make a seasonal holiday candle at Wigenton Candle Co. Guests will participate in instructor-led sessions where they learn about candle safety, various types of wax, and fragrance oils while crafting their own unique scented candle.
Buyouts of venues are available, too, including: the Capital Wheel; Live-K Karaoke Bar; Bobby McKeys Dueling Piano Bar; the Escape Room; Sip & Develop; Muse Paintbar; and Topgolf. Other options include a special group event at Gaylord National’s ICE! attraction, or a private concert at MGM National Harbor.
Traveling in any season can provide enrichment to peoples' lives, broadening their experiences and helping to boost morale. Each of these destinations offer visitors ample opportunities to enjoy the cooler weather and celebrate fall and winter throughout the region.

A COHNversation with Katie Paschall
Jim Cohn, publisher of Mid-Atlantic Events Magazine, talks to people.
Now that you have been with the Visit Delco team for a couple of years, what have you most enjoyed now that you are selling and promoting a destination rather than an individual property?
The ability to tell a broader, more dynamic story. That has been a game changer. When you're marketing a single property—like a hotel—you’re focused on specific features: rooms, amenities, service. But with a destination, you’re promoting an entire ecosystem of experiences, culture, people, and possibilities. That allows for much more creativity and storytelling.
It’s also incredibly rewarding to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders—local businesses, attractions, accommodations, and community leaders—toward a shared vision of growth and sustainability. I feel like I'm not just driving bookings or visits; I’m helping shape perceptions, support local economies, and build pride of place.
Finally, the diversity of the audience is exciting. Whether it's leisure travelers, business visitors, or event planners, every campaign and touchpoint feels meaningful because it represents the bigger picture of what the destination has to offer.
Katie Paschall Visit Delco
Whether it's leisure travelers, business visitors, or event planners, every campaign and touchpoint feels meaningful because it represents the bigger picture of what the destination has to offer.
What do you like most about representing Visit Delco?
I love the chance to shine a light on a destination that’s incredibly rich in character but often underappreciated. Delaware County, PA has this amazing mix of history, nature, vibrant main streets, and a strong sense of community—and being able to share that story with visitors is something I take a lot of pride in.
It’s rewarding to help people discover everything from our beautiful parks and historic sites to our diverse food scene and locally owned shops. There’s a real authenticity here that people connect with once they experience it, and being a voice for that transformation is genuinely exciting.
Plus, representing Visit Delco means I get to collaborate with passionate local partners—from business owners to artists to event organizers. That collaboration keeps the work dynamic, and it really feels like we’re building something meaningful for both residents and visitors.
What do you enjoy most about presenting and working your booth at industry trade shows?
The opportunity to make authentic, face-to-face connections with people who are genuinely interested in what we offer. There's something energizing about sharing the story of our destination in real time—tailoring it to the person in front of you, answering their questions, and seeing that spark of interest or curiosity.
It’s also a great chance to stay plugged into industry trends and hear directly from planners, operators, and media about what they’re looking for. That kind of insight is invaluable, and I always walk away with new ideas, partnerships, or strategies.
Finally, trade shows are a platform to proudly represent our brand and community. Whether I'm introducing someone to Visit Delco for the first time or reconnecting with existing partners, it’s incredibly fulfilling to be the face of a destination I truly believe in.
Since you are connecting with multiple hotel and venue partners, what do you look forward to most when getting together with them?
What I look forward to most when meeting with our hotel and venue partners is the collaboration and shared sense of purpose. We’re all working toward the same goal—to bring more visitors, events, and positive visibility to the area —so those conversations are naturally productive and energizing.
I really enjoy hearing their perspectives firsthand— what’s working for them, what challenges they’re facing, and how we can better support each other. It helps ensure our destination marketing strategies stay relevant and aligned with what our partners truly need.
There’s also something incredibly valuable about building those relationships in person. It strengthens trust, sparks new ideas, and reminds us that while we may represent different brands, we’re all part of the same hospitality ecosystem.

WHAT ARE ONE OR TWO UNIQUE ADVANTAGES THAT STAND OUT WHEN PLANNING AN EVENT AT A MUSEUM, THEATER, WINERY, OR ATTRACTION?
Planning an event at a cultural or historic venue offers a built-in experience that’s both immersive and memorable. These spaces provide a sense of place and purpose—whether it's a museum filled with inspiring exhibits or a theater with dramatic architecture and ambiance. They eliminate the need for over-the-top décor because the venue itself tells a story. Plus, guests often engage more deeply in these environments, which creates a lasting emotional connection to the event.
DO
YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CULTURAL OR HISTORIC VENUE YOU'VE WORKED AT IN THE PAST?
One of the most memorable venues I’ve worked with is the Steamboat NATCHEZ in New Orleans. Hosting an event while cruising the Mississippi River—with live jazz, local cuisine, and the city skyline as a backdrop— was truly one-of-a-kind. The NATCHEZ is the last authentic steam-powered paddle wheeler on the river, a living symbol of New Orleans’ golden age of steamboat travel capturing the charm and character of New Orleans in a way that few venues can.
WHAT ARE ONE OR TWO UNIQUE ADVANTAGES THAT STAND OUT WHEN PLANNING AN EVENT AT A MUSEUM, THEATER, WINERY, OR ATTRACTION?
What I love about working within museums is giving attendees the sense that they’re stepping “behind the scenes.” It’s a privilege to experience a museum’s collection whether it’s filled with historical artifacts or priceless works of art. Without the crowds, a private museum event invites a deeper connection. Décor can be inspired by the museum’s artifacts or themes, transporting guests to another time and place. The interplay between the museum’s natural backdrop and the enhancements we add creates an event that is both immersive and unforgettable.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CULTURAL OR HISTORIC VENUE YOU'VE WORKED AT IN THE PAST?
The National Constitution Center feels like a hallowed space, with impressive modern architecture paired expertly with technology and exhibits that bring to life just how radical our founding fathers were in their pursuit of a new kind of government. Our attendees get such a kick out of mingling amongst those bronze statues in the Hall of Signers, sizing them up and realizing just how short many of them were! It effectively humanizes these characters in the story of our nation and makes for great photos.

For museums, it is hard to beat the included décor and exhibit that is included with exhibits! Where else are you going to get an event with décor that includes real Renoir, Matisse, & Van Gogh paintings and already existing exhibits to entertain guests for hours?
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CULTURAL OR HISTORIC VENUE YOU'VE WORKED WITH AT IN THE PAST?
We love working with the Franklin Institute. With nostalgia being a huge trend in the past year, it brings out the kid in everyone, especially those who grew up in the area! I also love suggesting it to tech clients. It is perfect for everyone’s inner nerd! When I did weddings, I was obsessed with Colonial Dames, what a great venue! The venue itself is a hidden gem in Center City. It has a unique space for ceremonies, cocktail hour and a full dance floor and stage for reception. That garden is hard to beat!

WHAT ARE ONE OR TWO UNIQUE ADVANTAGES THAT STAND OUT WHEN PLANNING AN EVENT AT A MUSEUM, THEATER, WINERY, OR ATTRACTION?
We typically see higher attendance at events held at museums because the unique and engaging environment draws interest. Guests enjoy exploring exhibits and experiencing something different, which makes the event memorable and encourages them to attend future events.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CULTURAL OR HISTORIC VENUE YOU'VE WORKED WITH IN THE PAST?
We enjoyed working with The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The venue itself is beautiful and perfectly suited our needs, with a great flow from our sponsor tables to the presentation area. square feet, including a dramatic skylit ballroom, chefdriven dining, a one-of-a-kind walkable garden, sustainability initiatives, and wellness-focused guestrooms and spaces, it offers meeting planners a distinctive blend of elegance, innovation, and accessibility.
"The owners of the new JW Marriott that is coming to Reston are creating an impressive property, spending over a million dollars per room to build it," notes Dean Miller, national sales manager, Visit Fairfax. "It also will include a high-end restaurant, bar, a pastry shop, as well as two luxurious ballrooms that combine for 11,000-square feet of space."
"The property is the first JW Marriott hotel in the state of Virginia, which is typically the type of property that opens in a large city, but they are opening it here in our suburban community - just as Capital One Hall did recently in Tysons Corner, a corporate events venue and performing arts center - both additions are part of the county's ongoing evolution as a meeting destination," Miller adds.
Also in Reston, the AC Hotel & Residence Inn dual property, which is now open adjacent to the Reston Town Center, features a stylish European-inspired design and extended-stay comfort all under one roof. Guests also can explore the interactive Patriots Path encampment and pick up an official VA250 Passport, making Mount Vernon a cornerstone of the semiquincentennial year.”
Nearby, the National Museum of the United States Army’s new exhibit, CALL TO Arms: The Soldier and the Revolutionary War, which opened for the Army’s 250th Birthday in June 2025, is a specially curated collection that includes rare artifacts from the Revolutionary War.
“Fairfax County’s culinary scene is booming,” observes Ali Morris, senior manager, communications and marketing. “Bunnyman Brewing recently merged with Mustang Sally Brewing, creating a third outpost in Chantilly and bringing together two favorite local names. Food lovers will be drawn to the county’s upcoming openings, including Ebbitt House, Ruthie’s All Day, Electric Bull, Wonder Food Hall, The Salty Donut, and the Martha Stewart-endorsed Maman. For a more exclusive experience, visitors can uncover The Naisho Room, a hidden speakeasy and omakase destination in Tysons.”

PHILADELPHIA’S NEW ALLIANCE SALES MODEL
Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority and ASM Global announced a new strategic alliance sales model. The Alliance Sales Model is a collaborative initiative that streamlines sales operations to deliver a more unified, efficient, and client-focused experience for Pennsylvania Convention Center customers.
Previously, the PHLCVB’s role was to sell the PCC for long-term, citywide events. Under this enhanced model, the PHLCVB will assume full responsibility for all sales activity at the PCC, allowing for a single, seamless point of contact from initial inquiry to contract.
“I’m thrilled to share this major step forward in our continued evolution to better serve our clients and position the Pennsylvania Convention Center and Philadelphia as the premier destination in the convention and meetings industry,” said Maria Grasso, chief sales officer for the PHLCVB.
“This unified model with our partners at the PHLCVB will mean continuing an unmatched service experience for our customers and partners and elevating the future of meetings and events in Philadelphia,” said John McNichol, president and CEO for the PCCA.
Under this new direction, Philadelphia clients will benefit from the "one-stop-shop" sales process through the PHLCVB; increased speed, clarity, and coordination from proposal to execution; greater synergy with hotels, vendors, and key partners across the region; and continued dedication to the valued legacy clients who define the spirit of the Philadelphia community.
