Season of Celebration As we near the traditional season of celebration, it’s a good time to celebrate what you, our treasured donors, helped us accomplish this year. It’s been a season of exciting milestones.

Here are some highlights: • In May, generous supporters turned out for our annual Longview fundraiser, A lil’ bit of paradise: Mexican fiesta. Almost $132,000 was raised for charity care to help deserving patients and families receive needed services. The cost of providing charity care continues to grow at our agency, topping nearly $700,000 last year.

• In June, we opened a new hospice care center in Vancouver, culminating a five-year-journey with which many of you assisted. U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell’s D.C. and district staff recently Greg Pang (left), Community president toured the center. We reminisced how the & CEO, and Nico Janssen, legislative senator’s support helped bring comfort close aide to U.S. Senator Cantwell, flank to home to our Clark County families. You can read more about the center on page 11. the American flag hanging in our new Salmon Creek hospice care center. • In July, we launched our first-ever Senator Cantwell procured the flag Community Legacy Society (CLS) event in which flew over the U.S. Capitol earlier Longview. Held inour beautiful outdoor this year in honor of our new center. memorial garden on the hottest day on record, we celebrated the remarkable individuals who promised to make future gifts so that generations to come can receive our care. See page 7 for frequently asked questions about being a CLS member.

This October, our Longview Hospice Thrift Shop celebrates 10 years of providing great value to our customers and returning proceeds to support our mission. We’re grateful for your donations to the shop as well as your purchases. Many of you have also volunteered there for years. Watch for news about a special event celebrating this milestone.

As you can see, we have much to celebrate. To show our appreciation for your support, we are holding a donor appreciation brunch at the Kelso Elks on October 7.

Celebrating inaugural legacy members The Community Legacy Society (CLS) recognizes and celebrates people who make life better for others through future giving.

Founding members of the society gathered this summer for an inaugural event in the Ken Henderson Memorial Garden in Longview.

Friendships new and renewed, stories, music and desserts were part of the celebration. Each member was honored with a certificate and a hand-crafted 24kt gold-plated wood pen engraved with their name. Each member’s certificate is added to the CLS “bible,” a permanent agency album that will be on display for years to come.

CLS member certificates are permanently maintained at our office.

Frequently asked questions Who are Community Legacy Society members?

Anyone can be a member by including Community Home Health & Hospice in their will or estate plan. You will be added to CLS when you tell us about your planned gift. Planned (or legacy) gifts are future promises to make a gift to our agency after you pass away.

Is there a minimum gift amount?

No. Every legacy gift, whether modest or substantial, supports future families needing hospice, home health and grief services.

Why should I let you know about my planned gift?

Your planned gift will inspire others to make gifts as well. It is our honor to list members by name.

May I remain anonymous?

Yes, we will honor your wishes and recognize you privately.

What are examples of legacy gifts?

You can list us as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy or bank account. You can name us in your will through a simple cash bequest. A charitable gift annuity, trust IRA, real estate and appreciated assets are other types of legacy gifts.

Why are legacy gifts important?

Your planned gifts are in investment in our agency to ensure we’re here in the future for generations to come.

Where should I begin?

A well-thought out plan is the best way to ensure your wishes are carried out, so we suggest you talk with your family and consult your trusted advisors before making a gift.

May I change my mind?

Yes. It’s a good idea to update your will or estate plan throughout your life.

Salmon Creek hospice care center opens Bringing comfort close to home in Clark County After serving Clark County families with in-home hospice care since 1988, we were thrilled to welcome patients to our new Salmon Creek hospice care center this June.

The 21,000-square-foot center is located at 3102 NE 134th Street in Vancouver. Call 360.597.0711 for information.

The care center serves hospice patients who need short-term acute care. Our team of hospice experts can care for even the most complex cases. The center also offers short-term respite to our home hospice families.

We opened Washington state’s first stand-alone hospice center in Longview in 1984. Before the Vancouver center opened this summer, Clark County families had to travel to Longview to visit their loved ones at the 11th Avenue center.

With the launch of our second care center in Southwest Washington, families can trust they will get first-class compassionate care at either center---based on our more than 30 years of inpatient hospice experience.

The new state-of-the-art center resembles a Pacific Northwest guest lodge. Nestled in a wooded setting bordered by wetlands, the facility is designed for patient and family comfort. The 10 private patient suites are spacious enough to accommodate overnight guests including pets. Each room opens into a peaceful outdoor setting. Multiple family areas invite loved ones to spend quality time together. RV parking with full hook-ups is also available at no charge.

Celebrating 10-year milestones Service of Remembrance This fall, Mother Kathleen Patton congregation at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Longview are celebrating their 10th annual Remembrance & Healing!

Throughout decade, this event has raised nearly $6,500 for Home Health & Hospice services and equipment.

Hospice Thrift Shop The Hospice Thrift Shop will celebrate 10 years of successful second-hand fashion this October. Many thrift shop customers don’t know the store is run by 60 volunteers and two Community staff members. Like the agency itself, the thrift shop got its start with the help of community members like you.

“I have been in the retail industry for over 35 years and have never worked with such dedicated staff and such loyal customers! The wonderful contributions we receive from the community helps our shop thrive!” said Debbie Peterson, store manager.
