To… Hladik Newspaper Publishers Cc… Hladik Communications Board of Directors Subject: Publication Reduction and Improvement Plans ______________________________________________________________________________ Dear Ladies and Gentleman, As you all know, the newspaper industry is experiencing many tough economic challenges. Our company is no different. We can weather through these tough times, but that will require each newspaper to make changes to reduce spending and improve revenues. Our next Hladik Board of Director’s meeting is April 15, 2011 in Columbus. At that meeting, each publisher needs to present to the board their plans to reduce spending and improve revenues at their individual publications. This plan will need to include a hard look at staffing levels, expenditures, circulation, and advertising methods. Unfortunately, many of you will need to find ways to reorganize and reduce staff while maintaining the ability to produce a quality publication. Each plan must include a 25 percent reduction in material expenses, a 20 percent reduction in staff, affordable new approaches for the advertising department, and new approaches toward distribution and circulation. Please bring enough copies of your plan to distribute to each of the seven board members. Let me know as soon as possible if you will need special equipment to present your plan to the board. The board will take each plan into consideration and make its final decisions for each newspaper at the May 15 meeting in Wooster. Thank you in advance for your hard work on this difficult matter. If we all work together, we can make it through the challenging economic times and remain the premier small to medium sized news publications in Ohio. Sincerely, Michele C. Hladik President, Hladik Communications
