Fall Fundraiser a Smashing Success

Let’s Dare to Be Different This Year

Today I am grateful for being elected as the President of NAWIC Memphis Chapter #13 This year we are going to Dare to Be Different and take our chapter to next level! We are growing and have went from a medium chapter to a large chapter! So with the support of my NAWIC sisters, we will rise to the challenge of being able to empower and educate women in the construction industry! I am proud of the women in our organization and to be able to support you this coming year! This year will be filled with new and exciting changes!
I want to take a moment to give a shout out to my board and all we will accomplish! I am grateful for
each one of you and the dedication you have to our chapter
One of the changes we made this year was to reach out to local companies and get their support I would like to give a special shout out to our sponsors and those to come! We could do not this without you!

FALL CONFERENCE

NAWIC Memphis Chapter #13 attended the NAWIC Southeast Region Fall Conference in October and came back recharged and ready to live by this year ’ s theme of Dare to Be Different! We were able to learn more about how to maximize our impact as a chapter, run an efficient Board to increase membership benefits, and how to leverage regional and national resources.
Special congratulations to member Amanda Turner, who represents the National Association of Women in Construction Sustainability Committee and took the stage to share important Committee updates with the NAWIC Southeast Region. Catherine White was selected to take the stage for Saturday’s example of a Board Meeting as a training tool for chapters Brandy Aden was recognized for recruiting three members in the 2023-2024 year

GET INVOLVED
As our chapter grows, we are looking for more members to support our Committee Chairs. If you haven’t already done so, please fill out the Committee Interest Survey at https://forms.gle/tZNM3LsNdRY55aun9! For your convenience, the descriptions are below.
• Auditing: This committee is responsible for reviewing the previous year ’ s financial information and verifying its accuracy and completeness. Two to three committee members are needed for six hours total during Fall 2024
• Emerging Professionals: This committee’s goals are to help our chapter attract, retain, and bring value to women new to NAWIC and the construction industry We want to bridge the gap between seasoned and new members by providing a mentoring program, articles, event ideas, and other resources. Two to three committee members are needed for one to three hours monthly

on Nov. 22 to discuss ways to promote the events and activities of NAWIC Memphis Chapter 13.
• Marketing: The Marketing Committee works to actively promote the events and activities in the chapter throughout the year It builds community awareness about our chapter, the NAWIC organization, regular and ongoing activities, and community support, and develops and distributes content through print and electronic marketing materials, banners, social media content, press releases, and chapter activities The focus is to expand our efforts to bridge recruiting and awareness efforts and use tools to further women in construction. Two to three committee members are needed for one to three hours monthly
• Membership: The role of the Membership Committee is to help maintain NAWIC membership and find ways to increase NAWIC membership It also receives new member updates from the President and supports the initiation of new members and event check-ins; coordinates with the Board of Directors to maintain members’ engagement in the chapter; and encourages all members to renew their memberships The committee is responsible for supporting membership meeting check-ins and new member certificates and also contacts members when they become inactive Two to three committee members are needed for one to two hours monthly.
• Professional Development & Education: PD&E informs and educates members about regional and national NEF news It initiates educational opportunities for the chapter, such as seminars and workshops It also develops programs and projects to educate NAWIC members about the construction industry and promote members’ professional and personal growth through tours, speakers, and seminars Two to three committee members are needed for one to two hours monthly
• Safety: This committee’s purpose is to raise members’ awareness of safety and health issues, both personally and
professionally It monitors national information sources and reports on safety and health activities to the membership The committee also maintains relationships with other organizations involved in and concerned with safety and health issues and aids in gathering and distributing safety information One to two committee members are needed for one hour monthly, and the committee also supports PD&E in hosting at least one safetyfocused chapter event
• Women in Construction (WIC) Week: WIC Week is a weeklong event that begins on the first Sunday in March It is a week of activities focused on getting our name out to the industry and the community and bringing awareness to Women in Construction This committee coordinates WIC Week activities and ensures NAWIC is in the public eye this week The committee is also responsible for documenting all events to support regional and national documentation requirements. Three to five committee members are needed for one to three hours monthly leading up to March 2025 and all activities during WIC Week
• Camp NAWIC: This committee will brainstorm ideas for sponsorships, company engagement, hands-on learning experiences, locations, meals, etc , for a week-long construction camp for girls based on the Handbook from Nationals The goal is to host a construction camp in the summer of 2026 and testrun a few learning experiences this school year Two to three committee members are needed for one to two hours monthly
• Sponsorship: The purpose of this committee is to support and grow the sponsorship programs The committee checks in monthly to ensure sponsors are using their sponsorship benefits, such as meeting attendance and supports the Board in reaching out to and engaging potential sponsors Two to three committee members are needed for one to two hours monthly
