Volume never will stand for racism, sexism, queerphobia, transphobia, ableism, hatred or bigotry of any kind. -

Volume was created on Wurundjeri land. We are living on stolen land. I would like to pay my respect to its true owners and their elders - past present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded and treaties have never been signed.

I did it for you: how to help that friend that's being abused

When you know one of your mates is going through something, it's nature that you want to be able to help, but sometimes that isn't easy. Like any other situation, listening to the person is absolutely key, and as a person who has faced abuse before, this is what I would recommend you to do. My best suggestion would be to check out askizzy.org.au -- they are able to provide help for many different situations, from abuse support or help finding housing or food to finding your closest public toilets. If you're looking for something more specific, I recommend calling Orange Door (in a safe place) who can at the very least document the abuse in case anything happens.

It's important to remember that the person in the situation knows them self and their situation the best. For this reason, try to only give suggestions when they are asked for, and don't expect them to deal with things the exact same way you would.

On platforms like Instagram, Twitter and more, vision impaired users have the ability to have text read aloud. However, because these 'fonts' are actually just a bunch of characters that aren't usually used to write sentences, the text to speech feature does not work on them and will read out each letter rather than a whole word, which, as you can imagine, can become extremely annoying extremely quickly. So, using just your traditional typeface is best for accessibility for all social media users.
