GENERAL MANAGER
Dear MGC Members,
Joseph “JJ” Wagner, CCM, CCE General Manager
jjwagner@minneapolisgolfclub.com 952.525.2526
What a wonderful season it was! I hope you all had great experiences and made many family memories.
As we wind down the golf season, I want to let you know that your Board, Committees, and Staff are all very busy. Here are a few of the happenings:
• The all-member survey has been sent. Please take 15-20 minutes and provide feedback. It is always very useful. Speaking of surveys, thank you again to all the members who participated in the weekly Pulse Surveys since the summer. Your feedback and comments continually help us better operate your Club. We are not just surveying weekly use of the Club; we have also surveyed participants of the Lobsterfest and the Oktoberfest as well.
• The 105th MGC Annual Meeting is set for Thursday, November 17th in the Ballroom, begin ning at 6:30 pm. Please join us if you are able as your Board and Committee Chairs will present information regarding their activities.
• On behalf of the employees of MGC, thank you for your impressive participation in the Employee Holiday Appreciation Fund. With approximately 98%-member participation and over 20 members donating more than the suggested amount, the employees will love getting this Holiday Gift in early December. How nice!
• Regarding our service to you, we acknowledge we were hit quite hard during the early summer. We were busier than ever on the golf course, pool, grill room, patio, weddings, and other Club events as members were enjoying the many amenities that they love about MGC. We were short-staffed at the time, and it negatively affected your experience. As we increased our staff, service was improved. We initiated the weekly Pulse Survey about that time and that also identified areas for improvement. Additionally, Fadi, our new F&B Director, is taking our service to its highest levels with more one-on-one and group meet ings with staff. Service standards are being improved, which in turn will positively enhance your experience today and into next season.
In addition, here are updates on a few current projects:
• The Golf Course Maintenance Building, which we believe is 60-70 years old, needs a new roof, and the outside walls need to be upgraded, along with a new restroom and an upgrade to the breakroom. We expect to begin this project yet this Fall.
• The project to install a new, safer cart path for hole #10 has been approved and the construction contract signed. This project, which also includes the construction of an additional tee complex for hole #10, will begin in Spring 2023.
• We are also investigating ways to improve our Wi-Fi and AV capabilities clubhouse-wide, and our meeting room technology.
On behalf of the Board and staff, we appreciate your continued support.
Joseph “JJ” Wagner
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF

/ Strategic Planning
Finance / Green / Golf / Invitational / House Membership
It is that time of year when MGC committees are formed for the upcoming year. The last meeting for our current committees will be held in November (if the chair schedules one). December or January will be the first meeting for the new committees.
Per the Bylaws; all committee chairs and committee members are appointed by the President and approved by the Board; all committee members serve for a one-year term and, subject to the discretion of the Board of Directors, no committee member may serve more than three consecutive terms on the same committee.
To continue to inject fresh ideas, the Board is interested in the participation of new committee members. If you have been on the same committee for three consecutive years, please consider signing up for another committee to allow other members to participate. The appointment of chairs and committee members will be made and communicated by early to mid-December.
November 24th is the deadline for submitting an application to serve on a committee.
For more information on the description of what each of our committees do, please click on the Committee Charters link below. It is recommended you sign up for more than one committee and rank them as to your first choice, second choice, etc. We will do our best to consider: your requests, the Club’s needs to balance each committee and give more members a chance to serve. Please understand that even with multiple requests it is possible you may not be appointed to a committee.
Please note:
•
need to apply again at this time.
year,

PILLAR II - UPGRADE AMENITIES TO TURN WEAKNESSES INTO STRENGTHS
Member feedback provided the framework to help MGC identify areas of need and elevate the overall consistency of our member experience. We are evaluating and prioritizing opportunities for existing amenity improvements to ensure that our facilities are well-maintained.
Facilities Master Plan. We have engaged an architect and design firm and are working on sche matic design for improvements to the clubhouse that we will bring to the membership for input and ultimately approval to go forward with construction. The plan we are working on right now includes a new grill and patio design, relocated Pro Shop, golf simulator area, improvements to the Rosburg Room and banquet room and outdoor and indoor bar and dining enhancements. More information will be shared as our plans progress over the coming weeks and months.
Plans are also being finalized on the renovation of the Pool Locker rooms. New tile, fixtures and finishes, additional changing rooms and upgraded bathroom stalls will be completed over the winter/spring months. We are planning on finishing up all of these great improvements by the pool’s Summer’23 opening.
PILLAR III - IMPROVE OPERATIONS AND PROGRAMMING TO ENHANCE MEMBER EXPERIENCE
The committee members working on this pillar have been hard at work to create a member and guest experience that exceeds member expectations. Plans are being developed to invest in our staff, manage operations efficiently and pursue continuous improvements to ensure that the MGC member experience is optimized.
In March of 2023 MGC will be rolling out an upgrade to our website and implementing expand ed capabilities in the ForeTees app. The ForeTees app will be your new one stop shop for all Club information and tools
We are also drafting an updated and more efficient Communications Strategy to coordinate and improve the dissemination of information to our members. We plan to sync information with the website, improve email communication, and eliminate the MembersFirst app.
A Master Calendar is being finalized for all 2023 Club events. This includes, golf tournaments, golf events, golf course and Club closures, and all other special events.
PILLAR IV – FORTIFY BRAND POSITIONING AS A TOP-TIER GOLF CLUB IN THE MARKET
The Drone Video we contracted with MatchPlay Marketing to create has been shared with the Club. We will be using this video and working with them to create several digital marketing tools over the coming months:
• An 18 Hole Flyover / Voiceover of our fantastic 18 Hole Course
• Prospective Member Overviews: Golf Member Golf Experience, Family Club Experience, Social Member Experience
• Outside Event Overview: Space, Amenities, Services for Weddings, Social Events and Cor porate Meetings
Stay tuned for future updates from our dedicated, hardworking Strategic Planning Committee!
A Historical Tour of MGC
PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

GOLF CLUB

In 1959, MGC proudly hosted the 41st PGA Championship providing a perfect bookend to the decade which started with the 50th US Amateur. The routing map on the previous page shows the course played as a par 70 as holes 1 and 12 were converted to par 4’s. The total layout was at 6,850 yards. Also note the interesting bunker positioning throughout the golf course where many of the Donald Ross bunkers were still in play. Click on the link below to view a recap of the tournament from our 100 year history book by Rick Shefchik.
