In response to the technological challenges faced by schools in recent years, METAA is offering a rigorous 14-week online course designed to build competencies in the ten essential skills required for educational technology directors. This course is suitable for both prospective and current technology directors and is designed to cover three primary categories: Leadership & Vision, Understanding the Educational Environment, and Managing Technology & Support Resources. Students will earn 3 Framingham State University (FSU) credits upon successful completion of this course.
The course consists of readings, activities, online discussion posts, reflections, on-line sessions, a final essay, and a project portfolio. Students should expect to work about 5 asynchronous hours per week, depending on their expertise in the ten skill areas the course covers.
The course offers the advantage of working in an online cohort format, which allows students to share learning, experience, and expertise in each of the skill areas.
Two Zoom informational forums are offered. One at the beginning of the course to discuss the course outline, the weekly posting schedule, and student expectations. A second Zoom session is offered toward the end of the course to review the requirements of the final project and the digital portfolio. An additional Zoom session, as part of one of the modules, will be offered with a guest presenter who will focus on a specific area of technology management and integration.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a course grade. Student’s work will also be evaluated to receive the METAA CTO Certificate through the METAA CTO Course Committee’s review of each student’s LiveBinder portfolio and final project. This certificate provides employers verification that they will be hiring, or have hired, a technology administrator who possesses the vast knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective educational technology leader
in the K-12 environment. This certificate is different from other certification programs, like the CoSN CETL certification which requires four years’ experience as a technology director.
Prerequisite Degrees : A bachelor’s or master’s degree is highly recommended
as a prerequisite for this course. (Please note that the current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary (DESE) Education Director Certification – Generalist requires a master’s degree.)
• Course Duration: July 15, 2024 – October 20, 2024
The course consists of 12 weeks of instruction related to the skill areas and two additional weeks allotted for the final project.
• Course Cost: $2000 (non-refundable)
• Location: Online (Students will submit work online weekly – expect about 5 hours of work per week. Students will collaborate asynchronously within the weekly schedule.) To receive the Course Registration Form and more course details, please complete the requested information at the link by June 14, 2024.
The Course Registration Process will be sent out to those who have completed the requested information at the link. Upon completion of the request form, the course syllabus, FSU registration process, and METAA payment process will be provided.
The Course Registration Process must be completed by June 28, 2024.
Click here to complete the Course Information Request Form. Please complete the information requested by June 14, 2024.
Graduate Credits: 3 (through Framingham State University)
Course registration provides access to:

Our professional organization has created many initiatives to keep us all working together and moving forward. Our very active listservs for Technology Leaders and Data Specialists, the Annual CTO Clinic, the Data Dashboard, our Massachusetts CTO Certification and Mentorship Programs, and Advocacy on the state and national levels are only a few of our core services available to you.
There are many ways to support these critical initiatives; becoming a member is one of the simplest ways. In addition, I encourage you to reach out to us and offer your expertise on any of these topics and suggest and assist with developing new ideas.
This METAA Virtual Buyers guide is an excellent resource for all things EdTech in Massachusetts, and you will see many of the vendors here at the 15th Annual METAA CTO Clinic. These vendors have extensive experience working with K-12 schools like yours and are ready to assist you with your needs. In addition, we have included information on many of our programs also available to you. Thank you to our sponsors who continue to make these initiatives possible.
We are grateful for your continued collaboration. We look forward to continuing to work with you.
METAA is pleased to announce that the METAA Mentorship Program for Educational Technology Leaders will begin its second year in August 2024.
This program supports new and current educational technology leaders in their career development by fostering meaningful mentoring connections. More information will be sent to superintendents and technology directors in May 2024.
The METAA Educational Technology Leader Mentorship Program is designed to empower educational technology leaders in K-12 schools/districts by enhancing their skills and knowledge in the following areas:
• Active participation in the school district’s long-term strategic and operational goals
• Understanding of how technology enriches the student educational experience.
• Efficient management of technology and support resources
By participating in our mentorship program, you will:
• Set clear goals for your mentorship partnership.
• Experience personal and professional development.
• Build essential skills and confidence.
• Enhance job satisfaction and reduce turnover.
• Participate in sessions addressing real-world challenges.
• Explore Massachusetts laws and procedures related to technology integration in education.
• Network with other educational technology professionals.
The METAA Mentorship Program is open to new or current educational technology leaders in school and district settings.
The 2024 METAA Mentorship Program will commence in August and run for one year, with an optional extension for an additional year. Each mentorship pair (mentor and mentee thought partners) will collaboratively determine partnership goals and meeting frequency. The program fee for the first year is $3000.
Throughout the program, mentorship pairs (thought partners) will communicate remotely or in person for approximately 1½ - 2 hours per session, supplemented by email correspondence. Sessions will be tailored to the needs and challenges of each mentee, with a minimum of 15 sessions. All interactions are confidential. Mentors and mentees will participate in sessions with their cohort to explore “Problems of Practice” throughout the first year, typically 3-5 times.
An additional year of mentee support can be provided at the end of the first year. Extended mentors and mentees will communicate remotely for a minimum of 6 sessions, with additional check-ins as needed. All sessions are confidential. Additionally, there may be sessions to explore additional problems of practice in collaboration with other mentorship pairs in the program. The cost of extending the mentorship partnership for the additional year is $1500.
To apply, please complete the Mentee Application Form and submit a letter of recommendation from your District Superintendent along with your current resume through the Application link by July 1, 2024. We encourage you to apply at your earliest convenience, as space in each mentorship cohort is limited.
We are committed to creating meaningful mentorships and supporting you and your organization in achieving your goals.
Warm regards,
Jim Sullivan, CETL President Massachusetts Educational Technology Administrators Association (METAA)ITC66 COPIERS,

METAA’s most current project is the design of a data dashboard to collect ed tech-related resources across school districts. The data dashboard gives a window into the extensive resources used within your school and across school districts throughout the state. Once populated by each school district, the data dashboard will be an invaluable resource. We need each school district to participate in populating their information. Although it will take some time upfront, it will benefit all moving forward.
We need you! Please click the link above so you will receive your spreadsheets to populate and access the METAA Data Dashboard. Once registered and your school district information is populated, you will be able to access the entire dashboard. One person per district which should be the Ed Tech Director or designee.

The data dashboard gives a window into the extensive resources used within your school and across school districts throughout the state. Once populated by each school district, the data dashboard will be an invaluable resource. We need each school district to participate in populating their information. Although it will take some time upfront, it will benefit all moving forward.
