2023 BUYERS GUIDE

METAA is offering the METAA Chief Technology Officer Certificate Online Course through Framingham State University. This rigorous 14-week online course will build competencies in the ten essential skills of these three primary categories: Leadership & Vision, Understanding the Educational Environment, Managing Technology & Support Resources. Students will earn 3 Framingham State credits. This course is designed for both prospective and current technology directors.
Coursework consists of readings, activities, online discussion posts, reflections, a final essay, and a project portfolio. Students can expect to work about 5 asynchronous hours per week depending on expertise in the ten skill areas the course covers.
The advantage of working in our online cohort format is the sharing of learning, experience, and expertise in each of the skill areas. With the vital role technology plays in education, this course ensures that students gain the competencies to be included in the central management team in each school or district.
Two Zoom course informational sessions will be offered, one near the beginning of the course and one before the final project is due. These Zoom sessions are optional for students and are meant as forums to ask questions initially about the student expectations of the course and at the end to make sure the requirements of the final project are clear. We are also planning other optional Zoom sessions with guest presenters focusing on specific areas of technology management and integration in Massachusetts.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a course grade. Student’s work will also be evaluated in order to receive the METAA CTO Certificate through the METAA CTO Course Committee’s review of each student’s LiveBinder portfolio and final project. This certificate provides employers verification that they will
be hiring, or have hired, a technology administrator who possesses the vast knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective educational technology leader in the K-12 environment. This certificate is different from other certification programs, like the CoSN CETL certification which requires four years’ experience as a technology director.
Pre-Requisite Degrees: A Bachelor or Master’s degree is highly recommended. (Please note that the current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary (DESE) Education Director Certification –Generalist requires a Master’s degree.)
• Course Duration: July 10, 2023 – October 15, 2023
The course consists of 12 weeks of instruction related to the skill areas and two additional weeks allotted for the final project.
• Course Cost: $1500 (non-refundable)
• Location: Online (Students will submit work online weekly – expect about 5 hours of work per week. Students will collaborate asynchronously within the weekly schedule.) When the July 2023 course opens for registration in May/June 2023, you will be emailed the course syllabus, FSU registration process, and METAA payment process for this coming course.
The Course Registration Process is to be completed by June 30, 2023.
Graduate Credits: 3 (through Framingham State University)
Course registration provides access to:
• FSU course site
• CoSN reference materials for one year

As Educational Technology Leaders, we must ensure that we continue guiding the digital learning journey for our students. I am requesting that every Educational Technology Leader make a professional commitment to ensure that you will guide the digital innovations within your school district and continue the conversations at both state and national levels. Identify the hurdles, accelerators, and technology enablers to create a pathway for continued innovation in our schools, embracing traditional and digital methodologies to ensure the best methods coexist and commingle in teaching and learning.
METAA would also like to announce two new initiatives this past year. The “Data Dashboard” which will give us the necessary data to build support at the state level. We have also created a “Mentor Program” for our new colleagues in the role of Educational Technology Administrators in a school district. Additional information can be found in this buyer’s guide.
METAA hopes that the METAA Virtual Buyers guide and the METAA CTO Clinic 2023 will give you additional access to resources to support the digital learning innovation in our schools. I want to thank our sponsors who contributed to this Buyers Guide and made this event possible without cost to attendees.
What can you do to continue this journey? Be a voice and get involved at the national, state, or local levels. Joining the METAA board is an excellent opportunity to stay involved and connected.

METAA’s most current project is the design of a data dashboard to collect ed tech-related resources across school districts. The data dashboard gives a window into the extensive resources used within your school and across school districts throughout the state. Once populated by each school district, the data dashboard will be an invaluable resource. We need each school district to participate in populating their information. Although it will take some time upfront, it will benefit all moving forward.
We need you! Please click the link above so you will receive your spreadsheets to populate and access the METAA Data Dashboard. Once registered and your school district information is populated, you will be able to access the entire dashboard. One person per district which should be the Ed Tech Director or designee.
Protects students and ensure their well-being with the most proactive tool in digital safety.
Students across the country are struggling. The current crisis in student mental health is causing school districts to become more proactive in monitoring and providing services to support those in need.
Gaggle analyzes and reviews student content on school-issued accounts, alerting school officials when students show signs of self-harm, thoughts of suicide, substance abuse, threats of violence, and other harmful situations.
Machine learning technology flags concerning content in students’ school-issued accounts for review and blocks potentially harmful content
Flagged content is reviewed by a minimum of two tiers of Gaggle safety experts in order to verify the content, understand the context, and determine the level of severity
In severe situations, districtappointed contacts are immediately notified by phone, even after standard business hours
