Taught by nationally-recognized faculty and higher education professionals, and rooted in values of equity, social justice and inclusion, our program will deepen your understanding of the current issues in higher education. You’ll graduate with the skills to ensure all students thrive on campus and in the classroom.

Tailored For You

Merrimack offers two pathways to earning your Master of Education in Higher Education:

• Full-time as a Higher Education Fellow —  Earn a full-tuition discount by working 25 hours per week on campus or at a partner community college. You'll take evening classes to complete your degree in less than 12 months. Apply by the January 5 fellowship deadline for a July start.

• Part-time or Full-time as a Traditional Student —  Take classes at your own pace. Apply, enroll and start at any time.

PRESIDENTIAL FELLOWSHIP

 Earn your Master of Education in one year —  tuition free.

This fellowship covers 100% of tuition while linking graduate study with onsite field experience to help build your professional skills. Learn more at www. merrimack.edu/higheredfellowships.

TUITION AND SCHOLARSHIPS

$708 per credit hour*

The M.Ed. in Higher Education is 36 credit hours ($25,488)

 Applicants for full and part-time study (excluding fellowships) are eligible for the Dean Scholarship, which is awarded based on merit and need. This generous scholarship, in addition to our already low tuition, can help you save significantly on tuition costs.

Core Curriculum

The core of our program emphasizes social justice and the multifaceted and critical role postsecondary institutions play in a democratic, pluralistic, and complex society. You will take the following required courses:

• HED 6100 - Higher Education in American Society

• HED 6140 - Diversity and Social Justice

• HED 6310 - College Student Development Theory

• HED 6850 - Capstone in Higher Education

The capstone research project allows you to choose an area of interest related your career goals.

Pick the Concentration That Fits Your Career Path

In addition to your core coursework, you'll choose from one of the following concentrations:

Student Affairs

This concentration will help you excel as a career counselor, study abroad coordinator, admissions representative, student activities director, or diversity educator, or in another student-centric career.

Leadership and Organizational Development

In this concentration, you'll learn to succeed in leadership positions in fundraising, enrollment, higher education management, institutional advancement, research, or professional development.

Additional Requirements

Besides your core and concentration coursework, you will take electives to reach the required 36 credits. Additionally, students who do not currently work in a higher education setting are required to complete an assistantship for at least one semester to gain real-world experience.
