THANK YOU

to our Great Adventure Presenting Sponsors

WELCOME

WELCOME

Committed to our communities. Long after our flights have landed, we’re busy caring for the people, families, businesses, and places that make Seattle such a great place to live.

Proud Sponsor of Medical Teams International.

THANK YOU

for being a part of this amazing evening! I’m incredibly grateful for your partnership and presence with us tonight. By coming alongside the work of Medical Teams International, you join a courageous group of world changers who are compelled by compassion, called to action, and committed to making a real difference in communities here at home and around the globe.

Medical Teams President and CEO Martha Newsome has spent the last 30 years addressing international health needs through various roles, including leading World Vision International’s Global Sustainable Health efforts. She has served as the Africa HIV & AIDS Director as well as the Health Director and National Director for World Vision Mozambique. She also helped design World Vision’s Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition strategy. With a Master’s degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, Martha has dedicated her life to serving the health needs of others.

In 2016, your gifts leveraged with others helped provide desperately needed healthcare for 2.9 million people in 27 countries. During the same year, the United Nations refugee agency reported that the number of displaced persons has, for the first time, exceeded the number after World War II—more than 65 million refugees worldwide are without a home, without healthcare, and all too often, without hope. In Uganda alone, Medical Teams International has conducted more than 400,000 health screenings at entry points for the South Sudanese refugees flooding into the country since July, and we provide ongoing healthcare at clinics for 700,000+ refugees from 12 countries who make Uganda their temporary home.

Tonight, you’ll see the life-changing impact your generosity makes. The needs around us are immense, but because we work together, and with God’s continued blessing on our efforts, we will continue to bring relief and lasting health to those who are marginalized and suffering. Thank you for being here. Together, let’s boldly break barriers to health and restore wholeness in a hurting world. Enjoy your evening!

Martha Holley Newsome, President & CEO

ACTIVITIES Impact Market Interact with Medical Teams program representatives and learn about specific programs divided into the four impact areas below: You will receive $50 and $100 coins at check-in that are for use in the Impact Market. These coins will be an ADDITIONAL DONATION to help support one or all four of these programs and will be charged to your bidder number.

Mobile Dental >> Domestically, our focus is on providing mobile dental services to meet the urgent dental needs of marginalized children and adults without access to care in Oregon and Washington. This year, Medical Teams provided more than $6.7 million in dental and preventative care to 20,500 adults and children in the Pacific Northwest. Healthy Children & Safe Motherhood >> Medical Teams International’s Community Health programs focus on women, children, and primary healthcare. Millions of children still die from preventable diseases each year in the developing world. We address such issues as childhood disease prevention, maternal health, newborn health, nutrition, immunization, water and sanitation. Our programs educate both communities and local facilities such as clinics, so that local communities can effectively assume responsibility for their own health and overall well-being.

Uganda Refugees >> Medical Teams has been the lead health respondent to the South Sudan refugee crisis into Uganda, the largest refugee flow in the world in 2016. Medical Teams is currently the largest health implementing partner for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Uganda, where we provide life-saving primary health care services, medical intake and screening, and complex referral services to approximately 800,000 people. Medical Teams has a robust focus on maternal and child health, safe motherhood, and comprehensive emergency obstetrics. Medical Teams is a pioneer in providing fistula patient identification, surgical repair, and community re-integration in a refugee setting. Under Medical Teams’ care, not a single mother died in childbirth during all of 2016.

GREAT ADVENTURE 2017

The first phase will work to strengthen the EMS system to establish a district level EMS authority and to develop curriculum, manuals, and protocols and also to teach Rural Medical First Responder and Rural First responder classes. The second phase will be to build a networked EMS communications and transport system in the Dhading district of rural Nepal.

Mateo Messina is a Grammy award-winning composer perhaps best known for his soundtrack to the 2007 film Juno. The film won a Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media. Mateo will demonstrate how he writes the themes for some of Hollywood’s other hottest films and TV shows, such as recent NBC hit Superstore, 2016 Golden Globe Nominee Casual, Robin Williams’ last film, Angriest Man in Brooklyn, and much more. With a 30–45 minute piano and film score presentation, you’ll have a new appreciation for how different musical themes develop. Mateo will walk you through how the musical score for characters, settings, and expressions become more provocative and meaningful, and give life to the visions of the film writers’ stories. Don’t miss out! Be the first to raise your paddle for $750 (for 2 tickets) to be a part of this 64-person event. This package includes: • Venue (Pat Reser & Bill Westphal’s home) • Dinner (Reser’s Fine Foods) • Entertainment: Mateo Messina • Date: July 8, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
