Frequently Asked Questions How is faith incorporated in your work?
We strive for deep and consistent faith integration—both internally and in our programs. We serve people in need, regardless of religion, nationality, sex or race. We care about the whole person—physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. We partner with local faith communities to advance the health of people in crisis.
How do you use volunteers?
Many of our volunteers come from the communities where we work. Refugees, mothers and other community members are trained to help care for the health of their neighbors. U.S. volunteers trained in humanitarian response deploy at the beginning of a crisis and provide ongoing training. Locally, over 2,300 volunteers pack medical supplies, support our events and serve on dental vans.
How do you partner?
We partner with international and local agencies such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, U.S. State Department, local governments, Food for the Hungry, World Vision, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. A coordinated response means the right care gets to the right people. Locally, we partner with corporations, churches, homeless shelters, schools and healthcare organizations.

2019 Field of Dreams Leadership Tod and Tara Leiweke, Co-Chairs We are thrilled to have Tod and Tara back to chair their second Field of Dreams this year! The Leiwekes were introduced to Medical Teams by Mike and Kathy Holmgren in the early 2000s, back when Tod was the President and CEO of the Seahawks. Tod and Tara recently moved back from NYC so Tod can lead Seattle Hockey, the ownership group focused on bringing NHL and NBA teams back to Seattle.

This family is a staple in the Seattle community, and together they have supported Medical Teams International for more than a decade. Sarah Rawlins, Paddle Raise Speaker Sarah first volunteered with Medical Teams in 2012 as a nurse in an internally displaced person camp in Haiti. Since then, she has volunteered in Haiti, Uganda and recently in Bangladesh with the Rohingya refugee response. Sarah is a dedicated registered nurse with over twelve years of clinical nursing experience. Activities Impact Market Making a Difference at Home and Around the World At this year’s event, we celebrate 40 years of making a difference through innovative programs around the world as well as here at home. Centerpieces Totally Blown Glassworks—Starting bid of $200 This evening’s beautiful hand-blown glass centerpieces are created by Seattle glass artist Dehanna Jones of Totally Blown Glassworks. Dehanna is a Seattle native and studied at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle before opening her own studio in 1997.
