We are sure you will agree that our 1st prize winner’s design is fantastic and the quality of the 2nd prize and runners up designs made for a difficult decision! Well done everyone! We know you have all had to wait a year to see your designs in print (and you are all a year older!)

In Memory of Graham Lloyd The Mountsorrel Community Team is sad to report the passing, in January 2021, of their much-loved former chair, Graham Lloyd, after a battle with cancer. Although never a resident of Mountsorrel, he served the village well for many years as the Youth Development Officer based at the Sorrel Youth Café (now Brewards), and as Mountsorrel Community Team Chair. He was a lovely man, liked by everyone that met him and is sadly missed by so many. The world is a poorer place without him in it. Mountsorrel Community Team
The Graham Lloyd Award for Young People has been established in memory of the late Graham Lloyd who was the Youth Officer at Sorrel Youth Café for many years before its closure. He had a great impact on many young people’s lives . He was their advocate, always ensuring their voices were heard and achievements recognised. The Graham Lloyd Award for Young People will do the same; recognising their outstanding achievements and successes. It will be awarded annually to one young person and presented during the Mountsorrel Revival. Nominations can be made by anyone and should be sent to admin@lrys.co.uk This year’s presentation takes place at 14:00 outside Brewards Café (formerly the Youth Café) Anthony Marvin

MOUNTSORREL COMMUNITY QUILT Back in April 2020 Mountsorrel Community Craft Project was established during the first lockdown of the pandemic. It was inspired by the way the village community was pulling together to support each other.
A quilt was created with 56 squares, each reflecting some aspect of life in Mountsorrel. People ranging in age from 6 to 86 contributed and used a range of textile based techniques. Images of our buildings and landscape and homages to friends, family and key workers were created .
The finished product is in the foyer of Mountsorrel Memorial Centre. Also, there is a commemorative booklet. It can be bought for a contribution of £3. All proceeds are donated to the Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Services .
Mountsorrel Community Craft Project has gone on to make many metres of bunting for the REVIVAL which can been seen throughout the village today. In addition to this we entered a tree into the Christmas Tree festival and earlier this year were busy making re-useable cloth bags (MORSBAGS) which were mainly donated to the Food bank at the Baptist Church. You can find out about future projects by following our page on Facebook which also posts art and craft inspiration and lets you know about activities and workshops in and around Charnwood.

PHOTOGRAPHERS Our official photographers can be identified by their high viz jackets with the MCT logo on the back. They adhere to our Photographic Policy which can be found at

Tarmac is the UK’s leading supplier of construction materials. With over 150 years of experience and heritage to our name, we are a national network of local businesses, combining the knowledge and expertise of two of the construction industry’s most iconic brands: Tarmac, pioneers and inventors of the modern road, and Blue Circle, the company that patented Portland Cement. Mountsorrel Quarry is nationally significant to construction and infrastructure projects across the UK, due to the high quality of the stone we produce. Our ambition is to continue to help deliver the infrastructure, services, and products needed to grow our economy and build the UK’s future. We are committed to being a good neighbour and supporting the local community around the quarry. Over the years we have supported many community projects in the local area and are committed to continuing this support. If you have a project you would like us to consider please email mountsorrelquarryfeedback@tarmac.com

STONEHURST FARM Since the very first REVIVAL Stonehurst Farm has been a very supportive sponsor by providing straw bales for the Soap Box Track and parking for us on their large Sileby Road field next to the Waterside Inn.
This year Farmer Tom is bringing along his splendid vintage bus (one of many vehicles in the farm collection) which you can see in the parade– you may even be lucky enough to get a ride!
Stonehurst Farm remains a favourite destination in the village for young and old alike, attracting families, walkers and cyclists . The Farmers Den Tea room is a gem and the adjoining John’s House (Michelin Star restaurant!) a real treat. I have a soft spot for the petting barn! Open Tuesday to Sunday stonehurstfarm.co.uk

Become a Volunteer… MOUNTSORREL COMMUNITY TEAM needs you! Becoming a volunteer with the MCT is both fun and rewarding. It’s a great way of meeting people, getting to know your community and learning new skills. This may include learning how to close a road, liaising with the emergency services, running a website, creating posters, this programme, booking stalls and attractions and much more. Maybe you have skills that will help us? The Community Team are just a group of ordinary people from different backgrounds who come together to make extra-ordinary things happen. Mountsorrel Heritage Group The village Heritage Group came into existence in 2005 and became a charity in 2017. Our primary aim is collecting, researching and recording all aspects of the village’s history, heritage and wildlife and making that available through a museum and archive. We opened the village Museum (upstairs at the library) in 2019 and normally open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays when the library is open; we will of course also be open for REVIVAL. Currently we have a display about The Green. It looks at the people, buildings and businesses that have been here over the years, as well as a selection of village artefacts. For younger visitors (and some of the older ones too!) our Archaeological Test (Sand) Pit complete with finds dug up at sites within the village, will be available for you to try your hand at archeology. We established the Wildflower meadow at the foot of the Navins in 2005. This is maintained organically with a programme of scything, seed set and hay clearance and provides a changing scene of wildflower colour for the enjoyment of all. We also have a website, Facebook page and a monthly talks programme held in the Memorial Centre. We welcome new members to take forward both the Museum and the Heritage of our village, do come and talk to us to see how you can help and enjoy yourself at the same time.
