Not everyone knows what mesothelioma is!
We do We are here to support all UK mesothelioma patients and their families. If you need information, support, help with benefits or compensation, or would like to speak to a nurse who is an expert in mesothelioma, we can help. Mesothelioma UK is the national charity for anyone affected by mesothelioma. We exist to support people with mesothelioma to live better and live longer and to prevent mesothelioma happening to future generations. We advocate for better treatment and care, enhancing quality of life, supporting research and amplifying the patient’s voice.
The focus of our charitable activity is to provide access to specialist nurses in local hospitals across the UK. Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialists provide a large range of benefits including; specialist expertise available to patients, increased access to clinical trials, an increase in the number of patients accessing treatment, a lower rate of unplanned admissions, better management of symptoms and an overall increase in the quality of life for patients. We understand that people diagnosed with mesothelioma feel very strongly about preventing future cases. That is why we work closely with partner organisations to raise awareness of asbestos and to shine a light on the devastating impact of mesothelioma.
For more information about the work we do contact our information line on 0800 169 2409.
Mesothelioma UK Charitable Incorporated Organisation is a registered charity in England & Wales (1177039
(non-profit) is a place where visitors can learn about the history and wildlife of our local villages. Opened in 2016 you can find us just off Swithland Lane, close to Halstead Road junction. As well as the heritage rooms, there is a railway museum, local history museum and quarry heritage building, two nature trails (over a mile in length!) botanical gardens, 2 Royal gardens, a Peace Garden, historic railway shunting sidings, a narrow gauge passenger railway, garden railway and den building area!
Our team of community volunteers work hard to create new areas of interest. New for 2024 we have a crazy golf course, butterfly garden and Stephenson's 1834 lift bridge.
The Heritage Centre depends entirely on income from the Granite's Coffee shop so there is a small entrance fee of £2 adults and £1 children (for visitors going into the main site)
We are open 7 days a week, 10am until 4:45pm enquiries@heritage-centre.co.uk
Each year we try to improve the REVIVAL to make it the best possible experience for all. To help us do this please take the time to respond to our REVIVAL survey 2024
Let us know how we can improve, what worked well, what didn’t? Is there anything new you would like to see?
WE VALUE YOUR FEEDBACK

Mark, and his wife, Samantha, have always been great supporters of REVIVAL. When he was asked at the first one in 2014 if they would loan us their Temperance Hall yards to locate some stalls, he replied, “Sure, and is there anything that you want?”. That was typical Mark. Sadly, he departed this earth on 1st January 2024. REVIVAL is sadder without him, but despite difficult times Samantha is carrying on the tradition and the Temperance Hall is once again a lively part of our event.
RIP Mark
This year we are happy to announce that we have some very generous sponsors for our Village Competitions who are not only providing prizes but acting as guest judges for our entries!
We say a huge thanks to-
Elegancebeauty for our Crafting competitions; The Wonder of Bees and Festival Flowers
Public&Plant for the Cookies & Shortbread baking competition
HS Footcare for the photography competition
And don’t forget the annual FANCYDRESSCOMPETITIONwhere anything goes!
This year marks the 10th anniversary of REVIVAL, but only the ninth event (thanks to covid) It wouldn’t be the marvellous occasion it is without this man, Mr Ian Shonk. An original Community Team Member and often thought of as the ‘architect’ of the festival; you can’t fail to miss Ian with his iconic car, the Tiggers and his unique sense of style and occasion. He often takes on the role of compere & showman at our pancake races and other events. If you see him at REVIVAL give him a wave and a huge thanks for all he has done!
For he’s a jolly good fellow! And so say all of us!
Mountsorrel resident, Nobby Clarke, ‘The Lollipop Man’, complete the Coast to Coast challenge; 192 miles from St Bees in Cumbria, across the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors to Robin Hoods Bay. The path covers challenging terrain for which walkers need to be well prepared. Some sections are tough, especially in poor weather. But since Nobby served in the British Army for 23 years it shouldn’t pose too much of a problem!
Since retiring last year Nobby has taken on a number of roles in the local community including School Crossing Patrol for Christ Church & St Peters Primary , Co-Chairperson for the PSFA , Flood Warden , he assists with the Mug & Mingle coffee morning and is an active member of the Veterans Wellbeing Hub in Loughborough. He is walking to raise funds for 3 local charities : The PSFA for the School, The Leicestershire & Rutland Youth Service & the Wellbeing Centre in Loughborough.
Details about sponsorship through a Just Giving page can be found at Nobby’s Youtube channel where you can also follow his journey. http://www.youtube.com/@nobby3542
We are proud to have sponsored the Mountsorrel Revival since 2018. Tarmac is the UK’s leading supplier of sustainable construction materials and solutions. With over 150 years of experience and heritage to our name, we are a national network of local businesses.
We operate Mountsorrel Quarry, a granite quarry known for its distinctive pink rock. We have operated the quarry since the 1960s and are a major local employer with hundreds of people working on site and a significant amount more supported in the supply chain. Mountsorrel Quarry is nationally significant to construction and infrastructure projects across the UK, due to the high quality of the stone we produce and its rail capacity and connectivity.
We are committed to being a good neighbour and supporting the local community around the quarry. Since 2020, the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund has provided over £125,000 to local projects and groups – in Mountsorrel and other surrounding villages.
The quarry has also provided support through donations and volunteering. In Mountsorrel, this has included donations to the Mountsorrel Allotments and Mountsorrel Juniors FC. We also recently helped to improve access up to the Castle Hill War Memorial by refurbishing the steps up to the Memorial, along with a team from A V Squires Plant Hire. In preparation for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, we also made improvements to the burner so that the flames burned brighter than ever when it was lit on 6th June.
Please ask for our support!
We are always looking for local groups and projects to support. If you have a project that you would like us to consider, you can contact us at: mountsorrelquarryfeedback@tarmac.com.
The Landfill Communities Fund was established by the Government in 1996. It enables landfill operators to donate part of their annual tax liability to enrolled Environmental Bodies for a variety of approved community and environmental projects. To put forward an application for funding, visit www.entrust.org.uk or email det@derbyshire.gov.uk
You can find out more about what goes on at Mountsorrel Quarry please visit our website

The Mountsorrel REVIVAL would not happen without our generous sponsors and supporters. The Community Team thank them once again for their support in making this year’s festival even bigger, brighter and better!
