On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to personally congratulate our students and staff on the successful completion of another school year. As a community, we have stood alongside you and celebrated your many accomplishments. We have also observed you navigate challenges with steadfast perseverance.
Thank you to all of our district stakeholders for creating a learning community that exudes academic commitment, fosters respect, and demonstrates character. We are grateful for your overwhelming support of our 2022 Operational Referendum that allows us to continue our success.
The 2022-2023 academic year marks the end of an era as Annette Ashley and Paul Kinne conclude their distinguished service on the MCPASD School Board. Annette was a dedicated member for 12 years, while Paul contributed his expertise for 9 years.
The entire MCPASD community would like to express our deepest gratitude to Annette Ashley and Paul Kinne for their unwavering commitment and exceptional service on our Board of Education. At a board meeting held in March, Wisconsin State Senator Dianne Hesselbein honored their contributions by presenting them with commendations. This is a great opportunity for her to connect with our schools and understand the needs of our students. Creativity and inspiration filled the room for a visit to Peter Ludt's ceramics class, where she observed students working on their projects and had the opportunity to talk to them about their experiences in the class. Superintendent Monogue was inspired by the creativity and dedication of the students, and she appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the curriculum and teaching methods used by Mr. Ludt. The visit was an excellent way for Superintendent Monogue to connect with students and teachers and gain a deeper understanding of the educational programs offered in the district

Superintendent Monogue followed the punctuation mark road signs to Mr. Kalscheuer's 3rd-grade class! Students were working on their thesis essays She even got oneon-one time with a few students to learn about their writing process Superintendent Monogue was impressed by the student's critical thinking skills and ability to articulate their ideas clearly and concisely.
Black History Month was celebrated with the Black Student Union students During the visit, Superintendent Monogue had a sit-down discussion with the students to understand the significance of this month for them As a part of her monthly update, Superintendent Monogue highlighted the student's insights and perspectives on Black History Month. It was an excellent experience for the students and Superintendent Monogue to learn from each other and celebrate diversity in our schools!

8th grader Brooke, was selected as an academic scholarship recipient through Mass Mutual! Mass Mutual is a program used in the Academic Career Planning (ACP) course that provides free financial literacy simulations for middle school students. Brooke was one of only a few winners among the 1,200 applicants nationwide!
Annually, this scholarship is granted to approximately 100 students throughout Wisconsin. It acknowledges students who exhibit exceptional academic potential, exemplary leadership, citizenship, community involvement, integrity, and other unique talents. Congratulations to our three winners!

Aydin Rosas won the national 2023 NASA HUNCH Video Challenge. This year’s theme was “What is the Purpose of NASA?” NASA HUNCH is an educational outreach program that engages students in STEM through NASA-related projects The first-place winners received monetary awards and a framed plaque with a NASA HUNCH patch that has been up to the International Space Station.

In October, Wood led a workshop for all of our 5th-grade orchestra students to inspire them to find a love for music. Additionally, all 350+ MCPASD orchestra students had the opportunity to participate in a public concert alongside Wood himself.

Throughout the 2022-23 school year, several state officials toured our schools and conversed with students and staff about MCPASD and public education.
Officials included Assistant State Superintendent Duy Nguyen, Representatives Alex Joers, Mike Bare, and Mark Pocan and State Senator Dianne Hesselbein.
Our District hosted two grand opening celebrations this school year, one for the newly renovated high school campus, which now houses Clark Street Community School, and another for the Early Learning Center, which was previously the Clark Street Community School building We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community for passing the 2018 capital referendum, which made these renovations and moves possible.
The team hosted a food waste audit during lunch to track data and explore potential opportunities for improvement. After reviewing the data, the team hopes to implement a compost bin at school and ensure proper recycling happens at lunch. They are also working to find ways to provide unwrapped/unopened food to students in need.
Students from Kromrey Middle School, Glacier Creek Middle School and Middleton High School hosted a festival in the MHS north commons in February. Thanks to the support of local businesses and community members, families and other guests enjoyed a variety of fun stations and performances.

the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District’s efforts to improve student achievement across all demographic groups by focusing on equitable practices – the heart of an inclusive, innovative and inspiring learning community.
In Spring 2022, a groundbreaking project was launched to redesign the high school stadium through a public-private collaboration driven by the unwavering commitment of citizens, families, alumni, and businesses.
This visionary endeavor seeks to inspire current and future generations within the community to unite and participate in a wide array of dynamic activities. The project will significantly enhance the experiences of 76 sports teams, 31 sports programs, 43 clubs/organizations, and countless community groups.
The previous facility was severely outdated, with inadequate handicap accessibility and limited capacity. This cutting-edge, state-of-the-art complex will cater to the needs of athletic teams, band, dance, and other performance groups, physical education classes, and the wider community.

Quinn Armstrong has been apprenticing with a local plumbing company all this school year through our Youth Apprenticeship program, working full time and doing great in school as well. He will be working as a plumber for his career, so he’s gotten a great jumpstart!
Ben Kantor will be attending the University of Aberdeen in Scotland in the fall.
Jaquez Williams earned the Herb Kohl Scholarship for leadership, citizenry, and community service and will be taking this to Milwaukee Technical College. He plans to major in Music Business and Theory to better his community through music and learning for young musicians.
Devin Romine is a full-time manager at Culver’s in Cross Plains and has recently been helping to open a new store in North Carolina as well. He will continue as the best manager around!
Senior violinist Ellen Zhou was accepted to the prestigious Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles and will start her studies in Violin Performance there in the fall.
Senior Reilly Wagner earned a full-tuition scholarship to study music at UW-Madison and plans to double major in trumpet performance and biological sciences.

My favorite part of the mastery transcript is that it gives me the ability to add my work for admissions to see. Seeing just the classes you take doesn't give you a great look into who you are as a student. If people can see the work you are producing, it is a lot more meaningful. It's a lot more about who you are, what kind of work you produce, and what you like to do.

This is actually my first year at Clark Street. I started at a traditional high school that uses traditional transcripts, and I found it cool and personalized that I could put my own work into my transcript. It gives the Admissions Counselors a taste of who I am and not just what I produce on a test.

The pie chart portion shows your strengths of what you have done as a learner. Instead of showing something like, ‘I took five AP classes, ’ it is more like, ‘this is what I focused on in my high school career. ’ You get to insert your work into the transcript for the Admissions Counselor to see the kind of work you produce. It gives the person looking at it a chance to know who you are as a learner, and that is really special.
Students submit an application tool called a Mastery Transcript to their colleges of choice. This tool is similar to a traditional high school transcript in that it includes the credits that students have obtained, but it also includes a personal statement and projects students have worked on to represent themselves as an individual and as a learner.

Joe has a 3.9 GPA and is a three-sport athlete, participating in Cross Country, Basketball, and Lacrosse.
In cross country, Joe became a two-time varsity athlete and played a crucial role in the 2021 and 2022 State Championship teams. He received 2nd Team All Big 8 honors in 2021 and 1st Team All Big 8 accolades in 2022. As part of Middleton's renowned Cross Country program, Joe ranks as the 15th fastest runner in its history.
In basketball, Joe is a two-time varsity letter winner for the boys basketball team. He contributed to this season's team achieving a school record of 25 wins, along with Big 8 conference and regional championship titles.
In Lacrosse, Joe is a three-year letter winner and two year captain. He was a first team all-conference selection as a Junior in 2022. Joe is currently a starting player on the 5th ranked team in the state this year.
Natalie has a 4.0 GPA and is a four-time Varsity letter winner in swimming. She was selected as All-Conference her junior and senior years (there was no All-Conference her sophomore year) and All-State in her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. She is a 4-time state meet qualifier and has led the team to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes at the state meet. Natalie also helped lead the team to conference and sectional titles in her junior and senior years. Throughout her four-year tenure, she triumphed in four events at sectionals, and one event at the conference, as well as achieving four podium finishes at the state meet. She is one of the most admired and respected students in the school, earning the captain's position during both her junior and senior seasons.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is not a new concept in our schools; it has long been recognized as a crucial aspect of education and personal growth It is essential in both education and human development SEL, as defined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), is a process where children and adults learn and use skills and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, and reach personal and group goals. This involves understanding and expressing empathy for others, building and keeping relationships and making responsible choices.
MCPASD has adopted the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's SEL Standards, which correspond with the CASEL framework, including Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making.
Mr. Haugen at GCMS, along with numerous other MCPASD staff, implement teaching techniques that foster a sense of community and cultivate a positive classroom culture. Through these strategies, students acquire organizational skills and learn to concentrate on personal and academic objectives, identify their emotions, discern emotions in others, resolve conflicts, and practice perspective-taking

High School Students can earn up to 28 college credits through Dual Credit Courses
Madison College and Middleton High School collaborate to offer a dual enrollment program, enabling students to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and jumpstart their Associate's Degree in Education from Madison College.

ReadyThe Two-Way Immersion (TWI) program aims to achieve high levels of bilingualism and biliteracy, academic success, and socio-cultural proficiency in both Spanish and English languages
TWI students learn from two teachers at each grade level: one teaching in Spanish and the other in English. Students switch teachers midway through the day.
The TWI program aims to help students achieve high levels of bilingualism and academic success. Additionally, it encourages students to value multiculturalism as an essential asset in their daily lives and as part of a global community
Our District has partnered with Viterbo University to offer qualifying high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses in Viterbo’s Community Interpreter Certificate program.
Our district is 1 of 3 school districts in the state to offer this certificate. This year, 5 students graduated from the program!

As promised, we are eager to provide an update on the allocation of the $24.9 million operational referendum monies and its positive impact on our district for the next four years! We are concentrating on three crucial priorities. We express our deepest gratitude to our community for their unwavering support in this referendum.

The Black and Latino Student Union High School students embarked on a joint spring break trip to New York City in March, where they had an unforgettable experience During their visit, they had the opportunity to explore Ellis Island and learn about the history of immigration in the United States. They also visited the iconic Apollo Theater, where they were able to witness the rich cultural heritage of Harlem.
As part of their trip, the students also visited the neighborhood where the legendary rapper, The Notorious B.I.G, grew up. This was a particularly exciting experience for the students, as many of them were fans of his music
For some of the students, this was their first time traveling outside of their hometowns The trip provided an opportunity for them to broaden their horizons, learn about different cultures, and gain a new perspective on the world The Black Student Union and Latino Student Union hope to continue organizing trips like this in the future to provide more students with similar experiences
The members of the Glacier Creek Middle School Black Student Union traveled to Memphis, Tennessee in early Spring While on their trip, they participated in several college tours, explored the city's attractions, and visited various museums, such as the STAX Museum of American Soul Music and The Lorraine Motel Civil Rights Museum

Please contact your student’s school office two - three weeks before your volunteering event. Background checks can take up to two weeks to be reviewed. Once your background check has been completed, it is valid for 5 years. Review all of this information by visiting the “Volunteering In Our Schools” tab on any school website menu.
Last fall, The Early Learning Center and Cardinal Academy celebrated their grand opening after a construction project that converted the former Clark Street Community School building into independent spaces for both groups.
The Early Learning Center serves kids 3-5 years old through researchbased curriculum. Cardinal Academy serves our district’s 18-21 year old population, providing services and supporting individualized education plan goals to help students transition to adulthood.
After a successful full school year in the new high school spaces, the Middleton High School Campus was recognized as a Top Project in the state by The Daily Reporter.
Each year, The Daily Reporter, a Wisconsin construction news outlet, selects projects from around the state to honor as top projects of the year Superintendent Dana Monogue was present alongside project partners, Findorff and Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA) to accept the award. The Middleton High School Campus was recognized for the modernization of the building into an education facility that members of the community will benefit from for generations. Thank you to the community for the support of this project and thank you to all the project partners who brought our vision to life.
Crews are working hard on the new Stadium Complex! The 32,000 square foot complex will be the new entry to the baseball field and football/track fields.
There are three buildings that make up the complex One building is the public restrooms, concession stand and ticketing booth The second building is a two-story structure with locker rooms, player restrooms, coaches office and locker rooms, training rooms and a second floor with balconies overlooking baseball, football, and track & field. The second floor also includes a space that will be made into two classrooms in the future. The third building is a ticket booth and storage for the baseball field. The complex is expected to be completed ahead of the 2023-24 school year!
ce 2016. The Strategy Map is a roadmap that defines ict's priorities, goals, and resolute commitment to ce. The district's main objective remains the same: to educate all students by inspiring them, challenging them with a rigorous and innovative curriculum, and empowering them through inclusion and collaboration.
Over the years, the district has set several goals, including a plan for student growth, improving student engagement and well-being, enhancing parent engagement and well-being, student achievement, enrollment strategy for middle schools, and increasing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) staff. The Strategy Map combines board goals, district goals, and action steps.
Every summer, District Administrators and School Board
Members work to update the strategy map. The final copy is then shared with families in August. Dr. Dana Monogue, the district's Superintendent, provides quarterly updates to the board on the district's progress toward achieving its goals.
Throughout the year, the board and district work together to achieve the goals set in the strategy map.

All around us, there are products that use bright colors, interesting patterns, and all sorts of shapes. These elements contribute to the design of the product and can also be used as inspiration for new ideas and designs!
A fun way to recycle and experiment with these second hand products is to use them to create 3D fashion designs Take a look around and see what unique or colorful materials there are!
Some things you might find around the house are paper towels, (used) tea bags, cereal boxes, soda cans, and more. After ensuring these scraps are clean or washing them off, cut them into interesting shapes or fold them differently. When you’re done drawing or coloring your croquis (a sketched figure), glue down these recycled shapes.
