At Spencer Real Estate Group, we do things a little differently. Instead of working with one Realtor, we have a team who are all working for you. Spencer took the many responsibilities of a classic Realtor and divided those into separate roles within his brokerage. Having a whole team working on your behalf provides more availability, extra care, and better service. We believe our unique strengths provide added value to our clients, and we hope to become a trusted ally for real estate and homeowner advice when you need it. To find out more about how our team approach stands out from a traditional Realtor, please contact us. We’d love to learn more about you!
There's something so special about Middleton. Our community offers the best aspects of living and working in a small city with the dynamic of a larger city. Plus, the school district's high level of academic and co-curricular achievements, prominent athletic programs, outstanding staff, and Green Ribbon awards are boast-worthy. It's no surprise that Middleton has been named one of the top ten places to live in the U.S. many times over!
When I opened my own real estate brokerage in 2016 after 10 years as an agent, I knew I wanted to be based here in Middleton. While my team and I serve all of Dane County and the surrounding areas, there's nothing like being close to and working with our neighbors. Over the last 19 years, we've helped over 700 people buy or sell homes in the area. Many of the families we've helped I met within the community. Whether it was while dropping my kids off at Northside Elementary and Kromrey, attending Middleton Gators swim meets, Middleton United soccer games, or during the 10 years I served as a committee member on the city's Sustainability Committee. I feel fortunate to have met so many amazing folks working and living in this area.
My family and team love being part of the Middleton community. We live, work, and play here. If you're looking to buy or sell a home, I hope you consider choosing a real estate team that will treat you like a neighbor–because, well, we ARE your neighbor! Why don't you stop in and say hi sometime? My team and I would love to get to know you!

Whether this is your first year with us or you have been part of our school community for some time, thank you for choosing the Middleton–Cross Plains Area School District. We are so glad you are here!
There is something powerful about the first day of school. It brings fresh energy, a sense of possibility, and an excitement that can be felt in every classroom and every hallway. Our team is ready to welcome your child with care, high expectations, and a deep commitment to their success.
This year, we are proud to begin putting A Cardinal’s Journey into action. This Districtwide framework was developed with input from students, staff, and community leaders to guide learning from early childhood through graduation, with a focus on helping students build confidence, curiosity, and essential life skills so that they are prepared for whatever path they choose.
Along with strong academics, our schools offer a wide range of opportunities in the arts, music, athletics, leadership, and service. We also provide real-world learning experiences through career and technical education, youth apprenticeships, and hands-on programs that help students explore future careers.
We know that students thrive when schools and families work together. That is why we prioritize communication, offer translation and interpretation support, and are proud to serve a diverse, multilingual community.
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education. We are honored to be part of their journey and look forward to a meaningful and successful school year together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dana E. Monogue Superintendent Middleton–Cross Plains Area School District

It’s time to complete the Annual Student Verification (ASV) form! This form was emailed to families in July, and it needs to be filled out for each child to confirm their enrollment for the upcoming school year
Here is a quick look at what is included in the form:
You will be asked to let us know your preferences for how your child may be featured:
● District Website & Social Media (District audience only):
Saying “yes” means we can share photos or videos of your child on our official platforms like our website, Facebook, Instagram, and more.
● District Media Productions (broader audience):
Saying “yes” gives us permission to include your child in printed brochures, newsletters, videos, and other materials that are shared more widely in the community.
Saying “no” means your student cannot be included in the local newspaper, the Times-Tribune, or local TV coverage of events at our schools.
These permissions help us highlight the amazing things happening in our schools and celebrate your child’s experiences!
Please note: Our schools regularly receive opportunities for students to be featured in the local newspaper, the Times-Tribune. If students have “no” marked under District Media Productions, their name and photo cannot be included in the newspaper.
You will be asked if you would like your child’s photo to be included in the school yearbook.
● Fee Waiver: Indicate if your family qualifies for assistance with school-related fees.
● Digital Equity: Let us know if your student needs support with internet or devices at home.
● Health Information: Provide medical details or emergency care plans to help us support your child’s well-being.

We’ve launched A Cardinal’s Journey — our new future-preparedness framework designed with input from families, students, staff, and community partners. It is designed to ensure that every student is prepared to thrive, whether they choose college, a trade, the military, entrepreneurship, or another path after graduation.
At the heart of the framework are:
● The Cardinal Mindset – Community-Oriented, Curious, Accountable, and Self-Aware
● The Cardinal Foundations – Adaptability, Collaboration, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, and Communication
How will this show up in your child’s classroom?
Teachers are weaving the mindset and foundational skills into daily instruction and classroom experiences. This might look like:
● More collaborative group work
● Communication practice across subjects
● Real-world problem-solving projects
● Lessons that help students adjust and adapt
● Time for students to reflect on their mindset and personal growth
This work will also be reflected in report cards, student-led conferences, and advisory lessons. Starting in 6th grade, students will begin building learner profiles to track their growth over time.
We look forward to sharing updates with you as your student advances through each stage of their journey.
Our Nutrition Services Team prepares and serves thousands of meals every day. From fresh fruits to salad bars, everything is designed to help students feel good and stay focused.
We never serve fried food. Every meal is planned with nutrition and student well-being in mind, so families can trust that their child is in good hands. With kid-friendly menus, meal support for families, and a team that cares, the Nutrition Services Team is proud to be part of each school day.
Menus at Your Fingertips with Nutrislice
Nutrislice is your go-to tool for viewing daily student menus for breakfast and lunch. At the elementary level, students enjoy breakfast, hot lunch, and a fresh salad bar. Middle and high school students have access to a wider variety of options, including customizable meals and additional à la carte choices.
With Nutrislice, families can easily check ingredients, view allergen and nutrition information, and filter menus by dietary needs right from their phone or computer. You can access Nutrislice through our website or download the app for quick and convenient access anytime.
I love using Nutrislice on my phone. In the morning, when the kids ask what’s for lunch today, I can quickly let them know.

Did You Know?
MCPASD’s Nutrition Services is a self-funded program. This means it doesn’t use local tax dollars but is funded through meal sales from within our schools and through support from state and federal programs. Every dollar goes right back into serving healthy meals and supporting our school kitchens and staff.
On behalf of MCPASD’s Health Services Team, welcome to the 2025–2026 school year!

Meet Ms. Velez-Osorio, health assistant at Northside Elementary School!
One of her favorite parts of her role is interacting with students and learning their different personalities. Outside of school, she loves spending time with her dogs and taking them to the park to run around.
“My most motivated dog and I are planning to do a canine 5K obstacle course in Alabama later this year,” Velez-Osorio said. “We are so excited—she more than I—to be training for this event.”
Other fun facts about Velez-Osorio: She is bilingual and a veteran who served in the Army in Minnesota, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin. We’re thrilled to have her on our Health Services Team!

Our dedicated Student Services Team—including school social workers, psychologists, counselors, nurses, and health assistants—works in close partnership with educators, families, and community organizations to ensure that every student is supported academically, socially, and emotionally.
We provide a wide range of services to meet students’ diverse needs, including physical health support, mental and behavioral health support, attendance assistance, and connections to valuable community resources. If you believe your child could benefit from any of these services, our team is here to help.
Not sure who to contact? Start here:
● School psychologists are the go-to professionals for 504 plans and special education evaluations. They also help lead the problem-solving process and support students through the Multi-Layered Systems of Support (MLSS) framework to address academic, social, and emotional challenges.
● School social workers assist with school supplies, attendance issues, and free and reduced lunch applications, and they also provide social-emotional and mental health support. They serve as a vital bridge between home, school, and the community, assisting in reducing barriers to learning.
● School counselors offer overall support for students, including academic planning, social-emotional learning, peer relationships, and transitions between school levels. They are key partners in helping students thrive both in and out of the classroom.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. Reach out to our team today!
the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act MCPASD provides support for students living in temporary housing to help ensure continued access to education.
Under the federal McKinney-Vento Act, students experiencing housing instability are entitled to certain rights and protections. Eligible students may receive assistance with:
● Immediate enrollment in school, even if required documents are missing
● Attending classes while schools work to obtain necessary records
● Enrolling in the local school or continuing at their school of origin—the school attended when last permanently housed or most recently enrolled—if feasible and preferred by the family
If you believe your child may be eligible, or if you are aware of a student experiencing housing instability in MCPASD, please contact Amy Poole, Families in Transition Coordinator, for more information.

Raye LaFave is our new assistant manager of Transportation Services. She has been a bus driver in our District for many years, so she knows the ins and outs of getting students where they need to be. Now she’s bringing that experience into a new leadership role and is excited to help keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
José Garcia Garcia handles dispatch and field trips. From coordinating transportation for athletic events to making sure buses are where they need to be, José plays a key role in keeping daily operations on track.
Jonathan Hernandez Nuñez recently joined the department in a new role focused on routing and dispatch. He is working to make our bus routes more efficient and to ensure better communication across our transportation system.
Both José and Jonathan are bilingual, which helps us better serve our Spanish-speaking students and families.

MCPASD’s safety measures are safety and security coordinator Asher Torbeck’s top priority. He shared new and ongoing initiatives for keeping MCPASD students, staff, and schools safe:
School Resource Officers: MCPASD continues to prioritize student safety through strong partnerships with local law enforcement. This year, a second School Resource Officer (SRO), Jake Ungerer, will join current SRO Kevin Thompson at Middleton High School. In addition, Kromrey Middle School will have a new SRO, Cassidy Ruchti, as Julie Carbon is returning to the City of Middleton’s police force.
Our SROs are trained first responders. In addition to enhancing security measures, they contribute to positive school cultures by providing mentoring and extra educational support, bridging the gap between students, staff, and police services.
Stop the Bleed: MCPASD continues to take part in this national campaign from the American College of Surgeons. Training focuses on three key techniques that people can use to control severe bleeding until medical professionals arrive on scene.
More than 50 MCPASD staff members completed training in the 2024–2025 school year, and 100 more were trained this summer. The goal is to offer this training to all MCPASD staff.
Situation Response Teams: Each school and office across MCPASD has designated Situation Response Teams that can be activated to respond to any type of emergency. These teams regularly complete training sessions to operate more efficiently and effectively using the Incident Command System (ICS), which aligns with emergency services.
Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM): MCPASD threat assessment teams have transitioned to BTAM, which is a model through the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Office of School Safety. The model uses a systematic process for identifying, assessing, and managing potential threats. This transition from the previous model aligns MCPASD with best practices and other area school districts. MCPASD hosted a state-level BTAM training session at Kromrey Middle School this summer.
Visitor Aware: This year, MCPASD schools will start using Visitor Aware, a digital platform that electronically documents visitors to our schools. This software allows MCPASD to strengthen building security, improve visitor accountability, and enhance emergency preparedness. It eliminates the use of paper registrations, helping to quickly log visitors and run security checks prior to school entry. Watch for more details coming soon.
MCPASD is committed to maintaining best safety practices and fostering collaboration with families and local law enforcement. Visit our Safety & Security website for more details: https://loom.ly/yA1dC0Y
MCPASD conducted a full-scale crisis situation drill last year. This training prompted the District to focus on the reunification process to ensure that we are prepared to efficiently reunite students and families in a safe way.
MCPASD recently conducted two in-depth reunification training sessions with staff. The first session walked staff through the Standard Reunification Model, giving participants an overview of the entire process as well as their specific roles in it. The follow-up session was a simulation, where staff members put their training into action.
If an emergency requires students to be evacuated from their school, the District will activate its reunification protocol to ensure an orderly process for reuniting students with their parents or guardians at a dedicated off-site location. The reunification site will depend on the situation; it may be a church or a school in another district.
In the event of an emergency, parents and guardians will promptly receive communication about the reunification site via text, email, social media, and the District website. Upon reaching the reunification site, parents and guardians should:
● Provide a valid photo ID
● Be the student’s recognized guardian or emergency contact
● Check in and provide their student’s name and grade for verification

In June, the Technology Services Department transitioned to Securly as the new content filtering system for the District. This upgraded solution provides more sophisticated protection while maintaining access to educational resources. A key feature is Securly’s parent app, which allows families to see what websites and digital resources their students are accessing on District-issued devices. This transparency tool helps parents stay informed about their child’s digital learning and encourages conversations about responsible internet use and digital citizenship.
Miles Director of Technology Services
MCPASD is currently working on a thoughtful approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. Our District is currently developing a comprehensive AI plan that will serve as a roadmap for integrating these emerging technologies responsibly and effectively. This plan encompasses clear guidelines for both teachers and students on appropriate AI use, establishes necessary policies to ensure educational integrity, implements robust data protection measures to safeguard student privacy, and provides valuable resources to help students and families navigate this evolving digital landscape. By creating this framework now, we are positioning our District to harness the educational benefits of AI while maintaining our commitment to student safety, academic honesty, and digital citizenship. This initiative reflects our dedication to preparing students for a future where AI literacy will be essential, while ensuring that these powerful tools enhance rather than replace the critical thinking and creativity that remain at the heart of quality education. There will be opportunities for family and community engagement around AI later this year.
Thank you to everyone in the Technology Services Department for their amazing work this summer in preparing technology for our staff and students to return to our buildings this fall. Because of the tireless efforts of the technicians and engineers in the Technology Services Department, students and staff will be ready for all digital learning opportunities when they return to our schools.
The MCPASD Technology Services Department supports almost 9,000 devices in the District. Our Technology Help Desk has received nearly 6,500 service tickets since October of 2024. The average resolution time for a ticket is 1.6 days, which is lightning fast!
Dear MCPASD Families, Staff, and Community,
As we begin the 2025–2026 school year, I want to thank you for being part of this School District community. I have been proud to serve here for many years. I have seen firsthand how our schools engage students, empower educators and families, and continually evolve to reflect not only the needs of students but also their dreams.
This year, I have the honor of serving as Board president. Our Board’s job is to keep our District moving in the right direction. We listen, ask hard questions, and make decisions that prioritize students and staff while honoring the values of the community we serve. We take that responsibility seriously.
If you are new to MCPASD, welcome. If you have been with us for years, thank you. Our District is home to more than 7,200 students and over 1,200 staff members across 13 schools. The energy inside our buildings is something special. Just last year, we celebrated state championships in band, swim, dive, and soccer. Our trades and apprenticeship programs earned national attention for helping students prepare for meaningful careers. Students performed internationally, earned national awards, and came together to support local families through food drives and service projects.
We also introduced our new Future-Preparedness Framework, A Cardinal’s Journey, which will be more fully integrated into the student experience this year. It helps guide the mindset and foundational skills that we believe every learner should develop. This isn’t just a document. It is a commitment to preparing students for whatever path they choose.
Across the District, from our 4K programs to our high school classrooms, students are taking on challenges and staff are supporting them every step of the way. We are expanding support for multilingual families, strengthening literacy instruction, and continuing to find better ways to stay connected with you.
This community has always stood behind its schools. That support shows up in big and small ways. Whether it’s helping fund classroom needs, attending student performances, or staying involved in Board meetings, your involvement matters. As we begin a new year, I hope you stay connected and continue building a District we can all be proud of.
Here’s to a strong, steady start to the 2025–2026 school year.

MCPASD offers a voluntary, 2.5-hour, play-based 4K program for students who are four years old. It’s a critical part of how MCPASD supports its youngest learners, strengthens family and community engagement, and sets the foundation for long-term student success.
Kindergarten teachers notice differences among students who have attended a 4K program and those who have not.
“Students with a 4K experience come in with more confidence and a stronger ability to adapt to the new environment of kindergarten,” says Jenny Tollefson, kindergarten teacher at Elm Lawn Elementary School.
“They know that the scheduled structure of the day is something to learn and rely on because of their time in 4K.”
Tollefson says 4K also allows students to form connections with friends that extend into kindergarten.
“Kindergarteners who have attended a 4K program generally show more confidence in navigating school routines—lining up, sitting at the carpet, raising their hand to ask or answer questions,” adds Sauk Trail Elementary School kindergarten teacher Nicole Schemmel.
Schemmel says that 4K also gives students more time to practice reading and math skills and develop greater stamina for academic learning.
Katie Kavanaugh, MCPASD 4K / Early Childhood principal, emphasizes the long-term benefits of 4K: “This program not only introduces them to the routines and expectations of elementary school but also sets a strong foundation for their future learning. Our 4K teachers create classroom expectations and common language that are consistent to MCPASD elementary schools, which helps the students prepare for the years ahead.”
