demic, wildfires, racial and political division in the community, the TriCity NAACP will continue to fulfill the mission, vision and objectives of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People which is “. . . to ensure that the political, educational, social and economic status of African Americans and ethnic minorities are realized by eliminating race-based discrimination,” the organization said in announcing the annual meeting.
“We envision a society in which all individuals will enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that is majestically proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence. Moreover, our objective is to eradicate all forms of discrimination through legislation and policies at all levels of government,” according to a press release. Those who register will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting online.
Caltrans continues interchange work near Red Top Road Daily Republic Staff

FAIRFIELD — Crews began work on the Interstate 80/Interstate 680/ Highway 12 interchange late Thursday and into Friday morning and will continue the work Friday night. Eastbound Highway 12 at Red Top Road was closed overnight Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday to install temporary barriers on the highway, the state Department of Transportation said in a statement. wer e Motor i s t s detoured to Red Top Road to connect to eastbound I-80, Caltrans reports. Crews will also close various lanes overnight Friday on westbound I-80 near Red Top Road. Two lanes will remain open at all times. The closure will be from 7 p.m.
Pedestrian killed by Benicia patrol car identified Todd R. Hansen

BENICIA — The Solano County SheriffCoroner’s Office identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed Wednesday morning by a Benicia patrol car as 48-year-old Scott Haymers. His city of residence is still unknown. The California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Division and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident, which occurred about 2 a.m. on the 1900 block of East 2nd Street. A spokesman for the CHP said Thursday there was no new information to be released. Benicia repor ted Wednesday that the police officer was not on a service call when Haymers was struck.

Some parts of the Miami- Fort Lauderdale metro area looking at the possibility of more than two feet of rain in total from Eta, which has been drenching South Florida for at least five days.
