The Chronic Pain Network is a pan-Canadian research network with a specific focus on improving pain care, improving function, participation and quality of life for those affected by chronic pain, while alleviating the economic burden of pain over one’s lifespan. It was launched in 2016, as one of five networks in chronic disease funded through the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), as part of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). In August 2021, CIHR announced a new competition for funding, open to the existing five Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research
Jessica Bottomley as Administrative Assistant. As part of its efforts to generate greater awareness, this past year saw the CPN join Research Canada. Research Canada is a health research advocacy organization based on Parliament Hill, providing opportunities for researchers to educate Members of Parliament on key issues and trends in health care research across the country. CPN-KMIS will hold its first annual meeting in October 2023.

The CPN was successful in its application for this funding and received $3,750,000, to be used over a four-year period. The new iteration of the Network has seen the formation and implementation of a new governance structure, with new committees and memberships.
