Engagement Canadian Pain Care Forum

The Canadian Pain Care Forum (CPCF) was established in 2016. Its primary objectives are twofold: (1) to serve as a platform for the exchange of information and ideas to enhance the general education of members regarding public policy issues related to pain treatment, and (2) to coordinate voluntary commitments to address a wide range of public policy issues impacting pain treatment in Canada.

It holds regular meetings throughout the year and is open to organizations with a demonstrated interest in improving national and provincial pain care public policy. Comprised of more than 125 individuals, representing more than 90 organizations from across the country, the CPCF provides educational sessions that seek to address pain-related issues in public policy, barriers facing those living with chronic pain and current pain research.

The September 2022 meeting saw Health Canada’s JF Leroux give insight into the federal response to the recommendations from the Canadian Pain Task Force. The action plan outlined in the presentation provided more than 150 recommendations on priority actions to ensure that people with pain are recognized and supported, and that pain is understood, prevented and effectively treated throughout Canada.

Other recent CPCF meetings have featured updates from organizations such as PainCanada, the Power Over Pain Portal, and the Circa Pain Research Project.
