IhopeeveryonehadafunandsafeHolidaySeason!
I have to admit that 2022 was one of the more interesting years! The one constant was our member's support of the club and our staff Your support of the Holiday Fund was amazing and so very much appreciated Your continued support of this fund goes a long way and touches every member of the staff Your support of the club events, programs, and usage was at an all-time high From kids programs to tennis, to pickleball, to golf, to member events wehadunbelievableparticipation Thankyou!
Not sure how we are going to top 2022 but 2023 here we come As you can imagine with a club and property this large and 23 years old, there are a ton of physical plant issues that need attention or even replaced. WHYCAN'TWEPLAYONFROZENGREENS?
Because damage will occur – this will leave the plant with a shortened root system that will take several months to grow back When a green freezes, the plant and underlying soil becomes one solid unit As the sun warms the green, the surface begins to thaw. This is a very critical time because the upper portion containing plants and roots has thawed and the lower portion containing the root mass is still frozen. At this time, any movement on the green (golf play) severs the roots from the plant.
In the winter, when the soil temperatures are below 50 degrees, the roots grow very little Therefore, any repair to the damaged roots will not begin until spring Instead of adding onto the root depth established in the fall these areas will be starting over They will be limited in root mass and more susceptible to the stresses of summer For this reason we do not allow any play until the greens are completely thawed Depending on the depth to which the greens are frozen they will need several hours to several days of sun and warm temperatures to completely thaw By allowing the thawing process to take place we eliminate the damage that would occur. The stronger root system gives the plant a greater opportunity to survive the stressesofheatanddiseaseinthesummer, whichmeanshealthiergreens.

My grandma, Betty Collins, was a cafeteria lady for most of her career She worked at Matthews Elementary School in the 1980s and 1990s. Her kitchen counter was always filled with sweets she’d bake at home in her free time. Cinnamon rolls, chocolate cream pies, crumbly apple pies, and my favorite, her oatmeal raisin cookies Every time we’d go to visit her, she’d always have these cookies as well as cartons of chocolate milk for me from the school.
Ingredients:
1 Cup Butter, melted, then cooled 1/2 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Light Brown Sugar 2 Eggs
1 TSP Vanilla Extract 1 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour, sifted 1 TSP Baking Soda 1 TSP Cinnamon 1/2 TSP Salt 3 Cups Quaker Old Fashioned Oats 1 Cup Raisins
Directions:
Cream butter, and both sugars until smooth and creamy in bowl of an electric mixer. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt Turn mixer on low, add flour mixture, oats, and raisins. Be sure to scrape sides of bowl down Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes Preheat the oven to 350°F Form dough balls measuring roughly 1½ Tablespoons Place on sheet tray 2 inches apart and bake 12 to 14 minutes depending on how hot your oven runs
