Collaboration, Coordination, and Communication! Each Halloween Season, Mayfield Junior School eighth grade students plan, organize, and execute a campus-wide Harvest Festival complete with costume parades, spooky haunted houses, enjoyable games, music, opportunity drawings, delicious treats, and a dunk tank. The buzz on campus is palpable leading up to the annual and beloved school tradition and culminates each year in a unique student-led event. The planning and preparation for Harvest Festival is extensive, as eighth grade team leader Lisa Byrne challenges the entire class to "Lead on Purpose." For over a month, eighth graders solicit and obtain donations and raffle prizes, build booths, coordinate the event schedule, and sell tickets online. Students promote the Harvest Festival each day in October at the all-school Morning Prayer and across the MJS community. The result is a festive day full of excitement and joy experienced by nearly 850 attendees, including students, faculty, staff, parents, guardians, and friends–all for worthy causes. Funds raised benefit Mayfield's ReachOut program, a commitment from the school to serve others and our world, including charitable offerings for underrepresented communities and those in need.
