A Guide to Giving and Getting Involved at Mayfield
Dear Mayfield Families,
Mayfield Junior School has thrived for nearly 100 years, rooted in Holy Child tradition with the generous support of our vibrant community of parents, alumni, and friends. Together, we create a supportive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. The generosity and commitment of our community have always been the backbone of Mayfield’s success.
Forming a partnership with Mayfield is one of the most impactful ways you can contribute to the growth and well-being of your child. Through your philanthropic contributions and volunteer support, Mayfield can provide resources and programs that promote joyful learning and service to others. Your investment in Mayfield enables us to maintain and enhance our facilities, support innovative educational initiatives, and offer financial aid to deserving students.
This guide will provide you with information on the various ways you can contribute to our school. Whether it’s through financial donations, volunteering your time, or participating in community events, your involvement is invaluable. By working together, we can ensure that Mayfield continues to be a place where students are nurtured, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Thank you for considering how you can make a difference at Mayfield. Your partnership is crucial in advancing our mission and fostering a community where every student can flourish. We look forward to working with you and witnessing the positive impact of your contributions.
With gratitude,
Joe Sciuto Head of School
GETTING INVOLVED
Mayfield Junior School thrives with the support and involvement of our entire community. There are many meaningful ways for parents and extended family to volunteer and contribute to the life of the school. Whether you have a flexible schedule and can dedicate many hours, or you can only share an hour or two, all volunteers are appreciated!
MAYFIELD PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION
The Parents’ Association brings the community together through fun activities and events throughout the year. All current parents and guardians are members of the PA, and welcome to participate in all community events.
Parents’
Association Board
Each year, a group of 25-30 parents serves as the board of the PA. They are nominated by peers or self-nominated and serve as chairs and or coordinators for various events and activities. The Board meets monthly. All PA members are welcome to attend the meetings.
ROOM PARENTS
Room parents are essential at every grade and assist in communication about school schedules and events, grade-level specific projects, and coordinating volunteers for field trips and other activities. Room parents are self-nominated, and selections are made over the summer for the following school year.
ADMISSIONS AMBASSADORS
Admissions Ambassadors assist throughout the year to showcase Mayfield to prospective families through campus tours, presentations, open house events, and more.
MAYFIELD FUND COMMITTEE
The Mayfield Fund is our annual fundraising priority. Committee members reach out to families to help us achieve our goal of 100% parent participation.
Be generous and of great heart.
Sustain a bright and joyful spirit. Cornelia Connelly

GIVING
As an independent school, Mayfield is funded through a combination of tuition and donor support. Philanthropic gifts are necessary because a Mayfield education offers your child access to more than tuition dollars cover. The additional funding supports Mayfield’s mission and ensures an exceptional comprehensive education for every student.
MAYFIELD FUND
Each year, the Mayfield Fund is our most important initiative because funds raised are used for the school’s most pressing, urgent needs and support the school’s current operating budget. Gifts to the Mayfield Fund provide immediate resources to enrich teaching, inspire learning, and fortify the strong educational experience offered at MJS.
Sources of Revenue
Be generous and of great heart. Cornelia Connelly

The Cornelia Connelly Society acknowledges that every gift, regardless of size, truly makes an impact at Mayfield.
Other Giving Opportunities
MAYFIELD ENDOWMENT
The school Endowment includes several funds that are invested for long-term financial strength of the school. In addition to several scholarships and other designated-use funds, it includes the general Mayfield Endowment. Each year the endowment distributes up to 5% of its total assets, which are spent as part of the school’s operating budget.
Benefit
Each year, the Benefit is an opportunity to build upon the Mayfield Endowment and to celebrate the MJS community. All proceeds from the event are deposited to the Endowment, creating long-term financial support for Mayfield. Patron gifts and underwriting are the pillars of this effort, along with an online fundraising auction.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
Support of our campus facilities is referred to as “capital giving” and allows Mayfield to provide the physical learning environment that best supports our Holy Child programming including classrooms, labs, outdoor and performance spaces, library, and even items like plumbing, air conditioning, and furniture.
Mayfield’s current capital initiative is Learning Elevated: The Campaign for the Whole Child
THE EUCLID SOCIETY
The Euclid Society was established in 2007 to recognize and honor all who have included Mayfield Junior School of the Holy Child Jesus in their estate or financial plans. Planned gifts to Mayfield enable the school to prepare for its future and ensure that a Holy Child education will be possible for many generations to come. Planned gifts received by the school help fund tuition assistance, scholarships, and faculty professional development opportunities.

GIVING FAQS
Who are the donors to Mayfield?
Donors include current parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty and staff, parents of alumni, and other friends of Mayfield. Mayfield also receives funding from foundations, corporate matching gift programs, and donor-advised funds.
When will I be asked to make a gift?
Our fiscal year runs July 1 through June 30. We kick off the Mayfield Fund each fall and ask for gifts or pledge commitments by December 30. Then in the spring, we raise money through the Benefit for the Mayfield Endowment.
How much should I give?
We ask all parents to participate and gifts range from $100 to $25,000 or more. We ask families to provide the support they can; each gift is meaningful.
Why does participation matter?
As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a Holy Child. It takes everyone’s participation to meet our fundraising goals and fund the exceptional educational experience of Mayfield Junior School. Each gift is a vote of confidence in our school, our faculty, and our educational mission. Strong annual giving is also a benchmark used by foundations and corporations when determining grant eligibility.
Why doesn’t Mayfield just raise tuition?
Almost 25% of Mayfield families receive tuition assistance. By increasing tuition, we risk losing these valuable students whose families could not afford the increase, and the benefits of a socioeconomically diverse campus. In addition, gifts to Mayfield are taxdeductible, while tuition is not.
How are donors recognized?
Donor names appear on our website and in our printed annual report. Donors receive news and updates about our students. Leadership and loyalty donors receive additional appreciation through invitations to special events.
