The Vicenza Program is a five-week summer study abroad program based in Northern Italy. This program brought an understanding of how to view, observe, and understand architecture through the technical skills of one and two-point perspective drawing. While digital representation is at the core of architecture, hand drawing is still an essential, quick, and eloquent way to express an idea. From former Program Director Charlie Menafee, “there is evidence that drawing, when combined with a concerted effort to seek out, question, and document connections, may be one of the most powerful tools a hopeful person has to maintain positive and creative output.” The program enhanced visual ways of expression to demonstrate how one perceives architecture, both in its delicate details to the greater scale, and gave a visual understanding of Italy’s architectural & cultural magnificence.
