As the first foundational studio, the series of models explored architectural principles of form, function, and shape at a variety of scales. In the paper model exercises, two-dimensional drawings evolved into three-dimensional models, understanding how spatial verbs describing architecture (nest, interwine, expand, contract, or stack to name a few) can be brought to life with simplistic mediums. This studio branched away from standard visions of architecture. Physical models are essential in part of the creative process to discover unexpected observations, whether that be the contrast between light and shadow or visually understanding the scale of different elements or the greater whole.
