DIVORCE

The Uber of Separation

Eighteen months in the Separation System and tens of thousands of dollars later, Alvia Turney was divorced. Month after month, her solicitor fervently represented her and fought to achieve her client’s desire, a 50/50 split of all assets. Her lawyer, through zealous representation, led her towards an outcome that had no possibility of ruling in her favour. Why? Was it on the chance of a win by wearing down the opponent? Was it for the paycheck? Or was it for taking the risk that it might get through the court? At the end of the day, we know who paid the price.

DUTY OF CARE MATTERS TO ALVIA

“At the start, you have no idea how quickly the legal spend will escalate, or the impact the emotional rollercoaster will have on you and your family.” Alvia says, “Now on the other side and working in the industry, I know I was never entitled to 50/50. There is a criteria through which the law works to assess your position. I do, of course, question why my lawyer just didn’t tell me that instead of fighting on. I feel that’s where Duty of Care comes in. When one’s emotions are running high, coupled with outside influences from equally uninformed family and friends, you find yourself locked into the system. “At the start, you have no idea how quickly the legal spend will escalate, or the impact the emotional rollercoaster will have on you and your family. Breaking up is hard enough without the added legal drama. I knew there had to be a better way.” And so began this visionary’s quest to create a totally new process of separation and divorce, replacing ignorance, greed, hatred, anger and drama with knowledge, transparency, civility, respect and simplicity. Is this even possible?

It’s a daunting task, indeed, when mass media depicts reality TV and courtroom dramas filled with conflict, deceit and lawyers battling it out with oratory flare. They fuel the emotional mayhem that ultimately ends up leaving both parties devastated, broken and financially exhausted. After her very expensive personal traumatic experience, Alvia made a decision to help others manage the entire process. “I wanted to offer a new way of approaching separation, one that is amicable, fair, and still uses the system that is there. When you remove the argument, and educate and supply people with the correct advice,

they can more easily make decisions,” said Ms Turney, CEO of Act4Tomorrow Separation Specialists. The law is the law. It shouldn’t matter which solicitor you consult, the advice should be the same. At Act4Tomorrow, there is one central hub for communication. This makes the dissemination of information between the parties fast, reliable and without misinterpretation. Ms Turney and her team manage the entire process, if necessary, even from prior to the actual breakup, to settlement and divorce.
