What are you looking forward to about Key Club this school year?
By: Morgan Smith
As a Key Club officer, the event I am most excited for is LEDCON. LEDCON is a three day convention that current as well as upcoming Key Club officers attend. This convention usually occurs in the spring and is attended by all of Texas and Oklahoma Key Clubs. Here you can learn more about your specific officer roles while also getting to know your other officers. The officer role learning process consists of attending forums. A forum is like a meeting or a conference that showcases many different topics and subjects. Forums can either be role specific (presidents, editors, etc.) or just for fun (karaoke, dancing, etc.)! Some of my favorite parts of the whole LEDCON convention are meeting new people and dressing up! To attend forums and various speeches given at the convention, business casual attire is required. It is so fun to dress differently than you usually do at school and to see what your fellow officers are wearing! At LEDCON there are many fun activities to do with your club to help bond together and run smoothly. These include the arcade, karaoke forums, a super smash bro’s tournament and more! Getting to know your fellow officers is great because it helps the flow of the club upon return and it is an opportunity to make really close friendships with various other officers. At the end of the LEDCON convention, a banquet is held for all of the Key Clubs in attendance. At our previous LEDCON in April, we were unfortunately unable to attend the banquet due to weather conditions, yet it was still very fun to see everyone in their dresses and suits. The banquet is a good way to close out the convention and spend some extra time with any friends made over the three days. As a current officer, I highly recommend looking into being a Key Club officer because of all the fun that comes with it!

Autumn is the season of change. Discuss a time when your participation in a service project changed your perspective or taught you something new.
By: Rei Stephens
A time when my participation in a service project changed my perspective or taught me something new would be when I volunteered at Mission Arlington during Christmas time a few years back. I worked with a woman who was there to pick out presents for her two young children. There was no father or other family members there with her, and her kids were young enough for her to request they write “From, Santa” on the gift tags. Such young kids who had no idea what financial situation their mother was in, and the mother tried her best to shield them from it and keep their feelings pure She was of Hispanic origin and didn’t speak much English, but despite that language barrier I still did what I could.
It taught me to be grateful for my family situation and the privileges I have in my life compared to some other households. Ever since then, I’ve done lots of work with Mission Arlington to ensure families and children can have similar advantages in life as I have. It solidified my belief that every child and family deserves the basic necessities of happiness and peace within their circle of loved ones. While things haven’t always been easy in life for me or my family, we’ve managed to be well off throughout the years. Some families and households haven’t been as lucky to be able to say the same. It’s taught me to be grateful for what I do have and for what I’ve had access to- despite whatever may have happened in the past. That day, I gained so much respect for mothers and what they have to go through as parents in today’s world and society. I’m glad that she was able to provide a fun and happy Christmas experience. Babysitting gigs Rei did before joining Key Club for the first time!
