The Visionary Spirit Elevating Houston’s Legacy HOUSTON

In a world driven by ambition, few figures stand as both builders of business empires and champions of community spirit. Jim Crane, the renowned owner of the Houston Astros and Chairman of Crane Worldwide Logistics, embodies this rare blend of excellence and humanity.

It was a privilege to sit down with him for a candid and wide-ranging conversation, one that offered not only a rare window into his leadership, but also a deeper understanding of the values quietly guiding one of Houston’s most influential figures.

From his early days building Eagle Global Logistics from a two-person startup into a $4 billion enterprise before launching Crane Worldwide Logistics and purchasing the Houston Astros in 2011, Crane’s journey has been defined by vision, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. “We took a team that had never won and turned it into a champion,” he shared with characteristic humility, always quick to highlight the teams around him rather than take sole credit.

Jim Crane is a powerhouse who has reshaped not only two industries, global freight logistics and professional sports, but also the very fabric of Houston.

Beyond the stats and on-field triumphs lies a far more enduring legacy: Jim Crane’s profound commitment to the city of Houston. Crane has leveraged his

platform not just to win championships but to transform communities. He led a $34 million renovation of Memorial Park Golf Course, bringing the PGA Tour back to Houston through the Astros Golf Foundation. Under his direction, 23 longneglected city baseball fields have been restored, and youth sports programs have reached over 11,000 underserved children.

Jim Crane and his wife, Whitney, are actively involved in the Astros Foundation, which in 2024 alone donated $6 million and champions causes ranging from military family support to cancer research to homelessness. In fact, the Astros Foundation is a Crane family affair, as his son, Jared, is the Chair of the Board for the Astros Foundation and his daughter, Krystal, is also a board member. Since acquiring the Astros 14 years ago, Crane has directed over $60 million into local philanthropic initiatives through the foundation, including storm recovery, disaster relief, and even rebuilding Uvalde’s Little League program. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided $400,000 in grants, over 100,000 test swabs, and millions of PPE items to frontline healthcare workers. Going back to Hurricane Harvey, his $4 million donation helped thousands in crisis.

These aren’t one-time gestures, they are part of a living, breathing commitment to community. Crane isn’t just building legacies, he’s reshaping the future of Houston, one meaningful act at a time.

When I asked him what drives his philanthropic focus, and how does he decide where to get involved?, his answer was to the point “Houston’s been good to me. Giving back is a responsibility. We focus on areas where we can make a real impact: youth sports, education, veterans, disaster relief. I listen to our team and our community leaders. It’s not about the headlines, it’s about being there consistently, long after the spotlight’s moved on.”

Our conversation ventured beyond the business, sports, and philanthropic world into reflections on life itself. I asked him about his daily habits, and Crane, with a quiet smile, credited hard work, discipline, and treating people with respect. “You put in the extra effort, you stay late, you care about people, that’s how you build something lasting,” he said. It’s a mindset that has clearly shaped his leadership across industries and generations.

We also spoke about Houston, the city he proudly calls home. From its entrepreneurial spirit to its cultural diversity, Crane sees Houston not only as a thriving metropolis but as a city of opportunity. “Houston gives you a chance,” he said. “If you work hard and deliver, this city will support you.”

Talking specifically about the Houston Astros, his philosophy is simple yet profound: “If you don’t have fans, you don’t have a team. It’s about giving people memories, creating joy, and lifting the community.”

Under Jim Crane’s leadership the Houston Astros have emerged as a modern baseball dynasty, winning two World Series championships (2017, 2022), reaching the American League Championship Series seven consecutive times (2017–2023), appearing in the World Series four times (2017, 2019, 2021, 2022), all while investing in stadium enhancements and positioning the team as one of Houston’s top sources of pride.

When the conversation turned to the people behind the success, Crane was clear: talent may open the door, but it’s attitude and accountability that determine who stays and thrives. He looks for individuals who are coachable, consistent, and willing to outwork the rest, whether it’s a logistics executive or a rookie pitcher. Across all his companies, and especially within the Astros organization, he has cultivated a culture grounded in discipline, integrity, and drive. It’s a formula that has quietly powered both boardroom victories and championship wins.

As our conversation drew to a close, I asked Jim how he would like to be remembered. His answer was telling: “Not just for winning championships, but for giving back, for building something lasting, and for inspiring others to believe they could do the same.”

Jim Crane’s extraordinary life is one of stewardship over control, community over self-interest, and vision over ego. It’s a story that Houston can be proud to call its own, and a story that reminds us all what true leadership looks like when guided by heart as much as by mind.

On August 7, 2023, Jim Crane and the Houston Astros were invited to the White House, where President Joe Biden honored the team not only for their on-field excellence but also for their meaningful contributions to the Houston community.

Houston is gearing up in a big way to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup at NRG Stadium, our iconic venue with a 72,220+ seating capacity and a retractable roof that has hosted everything from NFL games to Copa América and Gold Cup finals A Houston pride.

The city has been awarded seven matches total, including five group-stage games, one Round of 32 and one Round of 16 match, set between June 14 and July 4, 2026.

To prepare, Houston is investing heavily in infrastructure, adding 5G upgrades at NRG Park, beautifying the EaDo neighborhood ahead of a major Fan Festival, and coordinating international-standard security and hospitality plans across the city.

With two international airports, extensive lodging, and a vibrant fan community, especially bolstered by its large Hispanic diaspora, the city expects over 500,000 visitors and estimates an economic impact topping $1.5 billion. Breguet Reine de Naples: History, Royalty, and Timeless Grace on the Wrist

In the world of high luxury, where elegance is defined by legacy, precision, and detail, few timepieces embody these values as exquisitely as the Breguet Reine de Naples. More than a fine watch, it is a testament to time as art, as heritage, as a lasting gesture of femininity and strength.

A Royal Origin

The story of the Reine de Naples begins in 1810, within the refined court of Naples. Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples and sister to Napoleon Bonaparte, was known for her taste, intellect, and patronage of the arts. She commissioned none other than Abraham-Louis Breguet, master watchmaker of the Enlightenment, to create an unprecedented piece: the world’s first documented wristwatch.

This vision was as daring as it was delicate, an oval-shaped timepiece, refined yet complex, designed to be worn on the wrist with elegance. Delivered in 1812, it featured a repeating mechanism and was mounted on a bracelet made of woven hair and gold thread. In that singular commission, Caroline Murat anticipated an entire future of women’s horology.

From Heritage to Haute Joaillerie

Centuries later, Breguet revived that original vision and transformed it into a collection of unmatched elegance: the Reine de Naples. True to its heritage, the modern version retains its signature oval silhouette, adorned with mother-ofpearl dials, poetic complications such as moon phases, visible micro-rotors, and diamond-set bezels that embrace the case like soft ribbons of light.

When the World Breaks God Still Holds

This may not be a fashionable topic, something most luxury magazines wouldn’t probably dare to publish. But I’m not concerned with what’s editorially correct. I know my audience. They are real people, human beings who see and feel far beyond the kind of luxury money can buy.

After the devastation in Kerrville and the surrounding areas along the Guadalupe River, we were all left heartbroken. The loss of so many beautiful lives, especially the innocent children who were camping in search of growth and a closer encounter with God through nature, is beyond words.

As a father of four, I can’t even begin to comprehend the depth of pain their parents and families must be experiencing. I am still praying for them. And when I say I’m praying, I don’t mean the casual words people often throw around, I mean truly praying. Every single day since July 4th, asking that God’s peace be brought into these families’ lives.

I know God to be kind, gracious, and merciful, though I recognize how difficult that can feel in moments like this. Still, I believe it. Even though, under very different circumstances, I lost my own mother that same day, I hold on to the certainty that God is good. I am convinced that those children were embraced by Jesus Himself and received the gift of eternal life, the way it was always meant to be.

Suffering, pain, illness, disasters, and death… these are not part of God’s original design. They are intruders, introduced by the enemy of God, who now also stands as our enemy. He uses tragedy to distort the loving nature of our Creator. But God is greater. Far greater.

He has already provided a plan to restore His creation and bring an end to suffering and death once and for all. That plan is revealed in His Word, through Jesus. “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” He said (John 14:6).

Now, for those who may not share my faith, I say this with the utmost respect and love: even if your beliefs differ, I hope you still find meaning in this message. Because at its core, it’s not about doctrine, it’s about hope, healing, and choosing compassion in the face of tragedy. It’s about the kind of world we all long for.

Until that plan is fulfilled in its fullness, we must continue living on this broken planet for a little while longer. But while we remain, let us make this life the best it can be, not through possessions or status, but through how we treat one another.

We all know the world would be better if we were kind, forgiving, patient, generous, and honest, if we simply treated others the way we wish to be treated. The beautiful Golden Rule. Yet we also know that every nation, without exception, is submerged in selfishness and chaos, far from God’s ideal for humanity.

Still, we don’t have to surrender to that darkness. We can choose to stand out. To be different. To live by a higher code. We can lead lives that reflect respect, truth, justice, mercy, patience, and kindness, qualities the world may see as outdated or weak. But to me, that is true strength. That is true beauty. That is true luxury.

Have Never Been Trendier Pre-owned Luxury Watches

or most of the last century, selling a watch, particularly a fine Swiss watch, was an embarrassing act of desperation.

Then came the internet, ushering in an era of transparency that permanently changed the dynamics of buying and selling both watches and jewelry.

Before, the secondary market was mainly driven by retailers who would trade in your watch to sell you a new one.

The availability of pricing information online made possible the pre-owned watch market’s spectacular ascent. Expected to total around $30 billion in 2025, it is on track to comprise half of the global watch market within five to 10 years, according to Karine Szegedi, managing partner of consumer industry and fashion and luxury at Deloitte.

But charting the category’s growth is virtually impossible.

“The fact that there are no estimates on the size of the pre-owned

watch market from the early 2000s shows how niche of a market it was back then,” Ms. Szegedi says.

Watch sellers now enjoy easy liquidity in a marketplace with countless opportunities to trade or cash in on their timepieces.

Today, with the long-term impact of Covid on the chain supply and the extraordinary shortage in the production of watches worldwide, the pre-owned market has literally exploded. A similar situation can be seen across multiple luxury industries. However, the advantage in the world of timepieces, is that these treasures are typically kept in like-new condition.

But the politics of selling a watch can be difficult to navigate. That fact was made clear at the Dubai Horology Forum, a twoday watch conference, open to the public, that took place in New York City’s Meatpacking District on September 24 and 25.

During a panel discussion about the new meaning of luxury, panelist Mark Cho, co-founder of The Armoury, a menswear retailer with stores in New York and Hong Kong, noted that he is preparing to sell the majority of his watch collection through Phillips. (The auction, entitled “The Beauty in Everything” sale, is scheduled to take place online beginning November 25.)

“I’m selling a bunch of my watches because I’m trying to buy a piece of property for The Armoury,” Cho said. “I love my watches, but I love my business even more.”

He later expounded upon that idea on Instagram: “At the end of the day, one person can’t keep everything and probably shouldn’t anyway,” Cho wrote. “I offer up these pieces: the majority of my watch collecting over the last 16 years, for the sake of my clothing store: The Armoury, one of the great loves of my life. I wish to trade these many, small amazing things, that I have selfishly kept to myself, in pursuit of a single new expansion of The Armoury New York to be enjoyed by my colleagues and my customers.”

Cho’s comment prompted his fellow panelist, Gabe Reilly, co-founder of Collective Horology, a watch collector’s club based in California, to note that “there is a stigma around selling watches.”

Reilly said he once acquired what he considered to be a grail watch, but about a year later, due to personal circumstances, had to sell it. “The brand asked me to provide an explanation,” he said. “I did and never heard back.”

“No one should give you a hard time for moving on from a part of your collection,” Reilly said. “I hope we can destigmatize watch selling. Oh, and by the way, this is the lubricant that keeps watch-collecting going. Because so often people are trading up.”

Indeed, the volume of person-to-person trading, via Instagram, forums, collector meetups, and other venues, is impossible to quantify, but there is no doubt that it has steadily risen over the past 20 years, in step with the growth of the preowned watch market. Yet the growth has also introduced more confusion, as prospective sellers try to make sense of the numerous platforms, from auction houses to Zoom meetups, that have sprung up over the past decade.

“I’m pretty sure I sold my first watch to Analog Shift eight to 10 years ago,” says Kathleen McGivney, co-founder of the RedBar global collector group. “It was both easier and harder because now if I want to sell something, especially lower-priced stuff, I can literally just post an Instagram story. Back then, I had no followers.”

McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing have launched Project: Endurance, a landmark collaboration offering a select few the chance to own a 2027 Le Mans Hypercar, a customer version of McLaren’s LMDh race car set to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

This limited-production programme integrates owners into McLaren’s pursuit of motorsport’s Triple Crown (Le Mans, Indy 500, Monaco Grand Prix) in a single season. Participants will witness first-hand the development and testing of the Hypercar and gain unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the WEC campaign.

Each Project: Endurance Hypercar features a race-derived V6 twin-turbo hybrid powertrain, developed with Dallara, McLaren’s WEC and INDYCAR chassis partner. Owners will join McLaren’s motorsport legacy, one that includes victories at Le Mans (1995), the Indy 500, and 190+ F1 wins, culminating in nine Constructors’ Championships.
