FROM THE CHAIRMAN

It is with great pride and gratitude that I welcome you to the 2025 New York Gala. This evening, we gather to celebrate the transformative power of education and the generosity that drives our mission. Your support directly benefits the John Cabot University Scholarship Program, ensuring that talented students have the opportunity to thrive at JCU, regardless of financial barriers.

John Cabot University continues to grow and exceed expectations, thanks to you. This year, the Frank J. Guarini School of Business was ranked among the top ten business schools in Italy, and our student body continues to grow, reflecting our expanding impact and reputation.

We are honored to present the Frank J. Guarini Medal for Leadership in Philanthropic Engagement to Mr. Nicola Bulgari. His steadfast commitment to education and philanthropy reflects the core values we cherish at JCU, and his generosity will create opportunities for many students.

We are also privileged to have Mr. Francesco Ruspoli, President of the JCU Alumni Association and Board Trustee, as our distinguished Alumni Speaker. His achievements stand as a testament to the strength of the academic experience at JCU.

A sincere thank you to our Gala Committee Co-Chairs, Frank Desiderio, Vivian Cardia and Steve Acunto, for their leadership, as well as to President Franco Pavoncello, our faculty, staff, Board, alumni, and friends whose dedication makes this event possible.

As we celebrate tonight, we are reminded that scholarships are more than financial aid; they are a gateway to opportunity. Your support ensures that JCU remains a place where students’ potential is nurtured, dreams are realized, and futures are shaped.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Yours truly,

COMM. SALVATORE SALIBELLO

FROM THE PRESIDENT

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the John Cabot University New York Gala 2025. Tonight, we have the privilege of honoring Nicola Bulgari, recipient of the Frank J. Guarini Medal for Leadership in Philanthropic Engagement. His enduring commitment to philanthropy and education perfectly reflects the values that define our university, and we are grateful for his continued support of higher education and global leadership.

All proceeds from this evening’s event will directly benefit the John Cabot University Scholarship Program through the Annual Fund. These scholarships empower talented students by providing access to a world-class education at JCU, helping them to achieve their academic and professional goals. Your generous support is vital in enabling us to continue fostering an environment where students can thrive and develop as the global leaders of tomorrow.

As we reflect on another successful year, we are proud to share that John Cabot University is now home to 1,800 students from over 75 countries, representing a vibrant and diverse community. We have expanded our academic offerings to include 15 majors and 23 minors, providing our students with a wide range of opportunities to engage in a rigorous and transformative liberal arts education.

We are especially excited about the recent launch of our new B.A. in Art and Design. This innovative program, which blends studio practice with a comprehensive liberal arts foundation, is designed to cultivate creativity and critical thinking, equipping students for success in the dynamic and evolving creative industries.

In addition, 2025 marks the opening of our newest campus, a state-of-the-art facility that underscores our commitment to innovation and academic excellence. The new campus features cutting-edge labs, modern classrooms, and specialized spaces for photography, painting, printmaking, and digital fabrication, providing students with the tools and resources they need to explore, create, and excel in their chosen fields.

Your continued dedication and support allow us to offer these transformative opportunities to our students. Together, we ensure that John Cabot University remains a beacon of intellectual curiosity, creativity, and global leadership. Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for joining us in shaping a brighter future for our students and the world.

Yours truly,

FRANCO PAVONCELLO

ABOUT THE HONOREE

Nicola Bulgari was born in Rome in 1941 and has been Vice Chairman of the Bulgari Group since 1984. He is the grandson of Sotirio, a talented silversmith who founded the family's Company after emigrating from his native country, Greece. Together with his brother Paolo, Chairman of the Bulgari Group, his father Giorgio introduced Nicola to the family business in the 1960s. Now part of the LVMH Group, BVLGARI was founded in Rome in 1884 as a jewelry shop and became a symbol of Italian excellence. Its international success transformed it into a global luxury brand with a presence in exclusive shopping areas worldwide, offering jewelry, watches, accessories, perfumes, and hotels.

A keen coin collector, Nicola modernized the ancient tradition of incorporating coins into jewelry, contributing to one of the Company's most successful aesthetic trends. Since then, Nicola has become a world-renowned collector of antique silver, acquiring several rare examples of silver pieces of the Roman school which are currently on exhibit in the Via dei Condotti flagship store. His passion for silver began early in his career, driving his mission to build a significant BVLGARI silver collection that blends technical perfection with contemporary design. An avid collector of contemporary art and vintage American automobiles, he also has a deep appreciation for classical music.

Nicola Bulgari, recipient of the JCU Frank J. Guarini Medal for Leadership in Philanthropic Engagement, is a dedicated philanthropist and a strong advocate for young talent in the arts worldwide. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Hall since 2007 and joined the Board of Directors of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in 2015, one of the world’s most prestigious musical institutions. His dedication to both the arts and charitable endeavors continues to influence the global cultural landscape.

THE BULGARI SCHOLARSHIP

Inspired by the remarkable journey of Sotirios Boulgaris from Paramythia, Greece to Rome, Italy, and the Bulgari family's enduring commitment to education and philanthropy, Nicola Bulgari and John Cabot University proudly introduce The Bulgari Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship will offer a deserving student from the Epirus region in Greece the opportunity to receive a world-class education at John Cabot University in the heart of Rome.

Building on the Bulgari family’s tradition of giving back to their place of origin, this scholarship serves as a bridge between Greece and Italy, echoing Sotirios’ own journey in building the Bulgari legacy. It aims to empower academically talented students, giving them the opportunity to shape their own future.

This donor-funded scholarship will provide exceptional students from Epirus with full tuition, housing, and meals for four years at John Cabot University, ensuring they have the support needed to thrive.

Nicola Bulgari’s commitment to fostering quality education, perfectly aligns with JCU’s exceptional educational experience, rooted in the American liberal arts tradition and enriched by the cultural and historical resources of Rome.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

Mario Dinicola Global Explorer Scholarship Recipient

Mario, a Junior at John Cabot University, with a dual major in Economics and Finance and minors in Mathematics and Computer Science, is a proud recipient of the Global Explorer Scholarship. He explains that this scholarship has granted him invaluable opportunities and hands-on experiences within his professional and educational interests.

“One thing that makes JCU different in the field of Economics and Finance is the opportunities it offers, in terms of scholarships, internships, professors, and courses available every semester. At JCU, I had the option to study for the CFA Exam from my first year, unlike other universities in Italy that only offer this possibility to graduates."

Beyond academics, Mario has benefited from JCU’s global network and international reach, which have played a key role in shaping his career prospects. “I was also selected to attend a summer school in Turin and Milan related to Chinese World Politics, and for an internship with an American firm in collaboration with JCU with regards to International Business between Italy and Virginia.”

Thanks to the Global Explorer Scholarship, these unique and inspiring experiences were made possible.

Aleksandra Nasobina

Aleksandra is pursuing a degree in Art History and serves as the President of the JCU Art History Society. She also runs a TikTok channel, The Art Report, where she shares her passion for art and discusses all things related to the subject.

"I was really surprised to learn about JCU, especially because it’s an American university in the center of Rome, which is the best possible place to study art history. So, when my job wasn’t available anymore because of the pandemic, I was happy to make this big life change and move to Rome to attend JCU. I love what I’m doing: I wake up every morning and look forward to attending classes."

Aleksandra has always been drawn to international environments and meeting people from around the world. She believes JCU’s vibrant, diverse community offers her the perfect setting to grow both academically and personally, and she embraces every opportunity it presents.

Leonardo Di Franco-Cascone

Leonardo is an International Business major student, with a minor in Marketing and serves as the President of the Film Appreciation Club.

Born in Los Angeles with deep roots in Rome, Leonardo grew up spending summers in the Eternal City with his grandmother, Fiorenza Di Franco. A beloved professor of Theater and Italian Literature, former Head Librarian at JCU, and author of Unscathed by Fire (John Cabot University Press, 2009), she left a lasting impact on the university community. Inspired by her legacy, Leonardo chose JCU as the perfect place to continue his education in a city that has always felt like a second home.

"I love JCU. It’s a great, tight-knit community where everyone is welcoming. To prospective students, I’d say studying abroad is always a good idea. When you come to John Cabot, enjoy every moment because it goes by so fast. And if you ever struggle to find friends, just join a club, you’ll meet so many amazing people."

Vittoria Caroli

Vittoria is a junior at JCU, majoring in International Affairs with a minor in Communications. She serves as the webmaster for The Matthew, JCU’s student-run newspaper, and is also the captain of the university’s tennis team. With aspirations of becoming a journalist, Vittoria embraces every opportunity JCU offers, appreciating the university’s dynamic environment and supportive community.

"JCU is an amazing university, and I am very active here. I think every student should get involved because if you are given an opportunity, I see no reason why you shouldn’t take it."

Harman Singh

Harman is a senior majoring in International Affairs, serving as the Vice President of Student Government and the President of the International Relations Society.

"I see the world in a completely different way from before coming to JCU. It would have been my number one regret, not having been able to study abroad. It is the best experience you can have."

Harman plans to pursue a Master’s in International Relations and Diplomacy, with a particular interest in strengthening the relations between the EU and the United States. At JCU, he has not only developed academically but also gained valuable leadership experience, preparing him for the next chapter of his career.

JCU has played a pivotal role in shaping Harman’s perspective, offering him the perfect environment to grow, learn, and explore his passion for international relations.
