GENERAL SUMMARY TO THE GROUP

PEOPLE: We strategically created new roles to improve our level of expertise while filling voids in our service. We have introduced several new positions, including a Concierge Manager, a Director of Field Operations, and a Director of Construction: Financials and Schedules. Additionally, we’ve expanded our team by hiring a third Architect, a Marketing Manager, and two Interior Design Assistants. In our Property Services division, we have grown to 14 full-time employees, expanding every facet of our business. Our leadership team has been exceptional in fostering cohesion and keeping everyone aligned and motivated, which has created a highly positive work environment.

PROCESS: We have successfully restructured our four divisions into distinct, accountable entities, each with its own financial and performance metrics, and a clearly defined bonus structure. Seven months into the year, each division is tracking closely to their respective budgets. This clarity is proving invaluable for guiding our future decisions and rewarding our team.

To further enhance efficiency and uphold the highest quality standards, we have brought on a seasoned Director of Field Operations. This expert will train our teams and implement best practices in the field. Additionally, we are continuously refining our standard operating procedures through checklist initiatives tied to incentives, ensuring alignment and consistency throughout the company.

PRODUCT: We continue to stand out for our exceptional design, quality, and craftsmanship. Our commitment to pushing boundaries is evident in our innovative designs that blend forward-thinking aesthetics with practicality, perfectly suited for coastal living.

HOW TOs ON ELEVATED LANGUAGE

SCENARIO 1: Supplier Quality Issue

PROJECT MANAGER OBSERVATION:

I’ve noticed that the quality of materials from one of our suppliers has been inconsistent, which could impact the overall build quality.”

INAPPROPRIATE RESPONSE:

“We’ve used this supplier for years. If there’s an issue now, it’s probably just a one-off.”

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE:

“I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. Consistent quality is crucial for maintaining our standards and meeting homeowner expectations. Let’s schedule a meeting to review the recent deliveries and discuss potential alternatives or ways to address the quality concerns with our supplier. Your insights are valuable in ensuring we deliver high-quality homes.”

SCENARIO 3:

Post-Construction Maintenance Request

SCENARIO 2:

Homeowner Concerns about Construction Progress

HOMEOWNER COMPLAINT:

“We feel that the construction progress is slower than expected, and we’re worried about the timeline.”

INAPPROPRIATE RESPONSE:

“We’re doing our best, but delays happen. It’s not entirely in our control.”

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE:

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand the importance of sticking to the timeline for your project. Let’s schedule a site visit to assess the progress together and discuss any potential roadblocks. We’re committed to transparent communication and finding solutions to ensure your project stays on track.”

HOMEOWNER REQUEST: “We’ve noticed some issues with the plumbing fixtures in our new home. There are leaks in the bathroom and kitchen.”

INAPPROPRIATE RESPONSE:

“We completed the construction, so any issues now are likely wear and tear or user error. You might need to contact a plumber yourself.”

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE:

“Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. Ensuring the functionality and comfort of your home is our priority. We’ll dispatch our maintenance team to investigate the plumbing leaks promptly. Please provide us with more details about the locations and severity of the leaks so we can address them efficiently. The story of Shandy Hall goes something like this … It all started as a Wrightsville Sound land grant from King George II to Thomas Conner in 1737. Situated on a berm, a blanket of trees shields Shandy Hall’s views of Money Island, where Capt. William Kidd allegedly buried his treasure, according to local folklore. The home was set ablaze in the mid-1800s, destroying some sections, and was later rebuilt. The first structure on the land was one of the oldest houses in the area and was a home for sailors during the Revolutionary War; and was used as a headquarters for Gen. Whiting and the government salt works during the Civil War.

Since then, the old home has had a dozen generations pass through its halls. Today, our clients have become the latest inhabitant of this home. There are many stories and events that this has been privy to, and the new chapter will be nothing short of an honorable one. The original home’s architecture is an amalgamation of repairs, additions, and alterations over the last hundred years; unfortunately, none were done with warranted integrity and little originality. The time has come to restore the home in a practical, modern way that pays homage to the old structure and its living legacy.

SEAHORSE AT PROJECT 72

Project 72’s seahorse sculpture commemorates our client’s cherished childhood memories at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.

Crafted with meticulous detail, the cast in bronze seahorse symbolizes the client’s deep connection to the sea and the club. It serves as a timeless tribute and a focal point of nostalgia, embodying the essence of coastal wonders. Hats off to Justin Campbell, whose exceptional artistry brought this vision to life.

We have a new conference table, expertly crafted by Levi, one of our Project Managers. Levi’s passion for craftsmanship and eye for detail shines through in this exquisite handmade piece. Constructed from 8/4 and 10/4 teak, it features a traditional yacht deck pattern, large radius corners, a scalloped edge, and a custom teak base. The graceful frame was meticulously shaped using templates, routers, a bandsaw, and a spindle sander.

It looks absolutely beautiful and fits our space so well. Just another ode to craftsmanship, bespoke pieces, and the Tongue & Groove way!
