Brian Baldwin becomes an Honorary Alderman of Wigan Borough

Organisations and joint Chairman of the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. One of his major achievements was helping to set-up Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust. Brian has also represented the council on a long list of outside bodies, including Civic Host Association, Partnership of Public Employers in Europe, Local Government Association General Assembley and Greater Manchester Pension Fund, to name but a few. Brian was made an Honorary Alderman at a full Council meeting earlier this month. He was given a standing ovation after members of the council thanked him for his tremendous service. Ward colleague and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Bill Rotherham thanked him for this services to the residents and sports club

long-lasting friend Billy Boston. Lord Peter Smith, Leader of Wigan Council, thanked Brian for his outstanding contribution for his national and local Government services. He said: “Brian has made an enormous contribution to Wigan Borough and I’m delighted we have been able to recognise him in this way. “He was a diligent and committed ward councillor for more than 30 years and a leading figure within the council, serving on several committees and in the cabinet. “He also represented Wigan Borough on many important national committees. As he enjoys his retirement, he can look back with pride at his time in local government and it is only right his impressive contribution is officially acknowledged.”
