BE MISSION READY

MANDATORY

Wear the Bib

The B-tag timing device, recording each participant’s official time, is attached to the reverse side of the official MCM bib. Runners must complete the emergency contact information on the reverse side of the bib and secure the bib on a visible area on the front of MCM Day clothing with safety pins provided at Packet Pick-up. The B-tag records each participant’s splits, start and finish times.

REQUIRED

Corral by Bib Color

Take note of the color of your bib. Runners may only access the corrals that match the color on the bib. These assignments correspond to the anticipated finish time as noted by participants during registration. Runners may always move back in the corrals but may not move forward to a faster corral. Runners in the green wave will line up in their designated corral and will be moved up once the red and yellow waves have begun to clear the start line area.

Clearly Bag It

At Packet Pick-up, all runners receive a clear plastic bag to be utilized on event day for bag check. No other bags will be accepted by the UPS trucks. On the back of every bib is a UPS baggage sticker. Runners can peel off the sticker and affix it to the bottom right of the bag. UPS trucks are individually numbered with the assigned truck indicated on each runner’s UPS sticker. Baggage drop off for the MCM and MCM50K will be located in Runners Village at the North Pentagon parking lot and will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. MCM10K baggage drop will be staged in the National Mall near the MCM10K start line. It will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

URGENT

When Nature Calls

There are 150+ Porta-Johns for participants throughout Runners Village. It never seems like enough, though. So if the lines are too long, head up to the start line where another 150 less-frequented Porta-Johns also await. Porta-Johns are also located at the MCM10K start and at every water point along both courses.

URGENT

Dress for Success

While weather for the MCM has been unusually hot in recent years, traditionally, runners have been greeted by chilly temperatures upon arrival (40s through the dark morning hours) followed by a steady climb through the 60s. Additional layers are advised for the morning. When ready to run, simply discard the unnecessary clothing along the sides of the road along Route 110. The abandoned apparel will be given to service providers in support of those in need. While some runners may opt to run in costume, costume masks are prohibited.

CRITICAL

Stash the Trash

The MCM is committed to producing an environmentally responsible event. All participants are asked to support this effort by not dropping trash on the course. Any water bottles, cups, gel packs or other items must be discarded at trash receptacles situated at all water points. At the finish, kindly recycle bottles and put fruit peels in the allocated composting bins.

Water - Great Idea

Brought your own water pouch, bottle or even a canteen? A self serve, cup-free water station is located on the 14th Street Bridge before Mile 21. Plan ahead to take advantage of this hydration opportunity.

Family Matters

Devise a plan to reunite with family and friends after the race by informing those key supporters to congregate at your designated Link-Up tower at the MCM Finish Festival in Rosslyn along Wilson Blvd. Each tower features letters of the alphabet; choose to meet at the tower featuring the initial of the runner’s last name.

OPTIONAL

Need Assistance?

MCM Info Tents are located in Runner’s Village in the North Pentagon parking lot and at the entrance of the Finish Festival at Dark Star Park on Fort Myer Drive. During the MCM Kids Run, an Info Tent will be located in the North Pentagon parking lot. Bibs must be obtained prior to event day and will not be available at the Info Tents.

Remember to Share

MCM will be active on social media throughout the day. Share event day experiences using the hashtag #RunWithTheMarines.

Movement Plan

Purchase a Metro SmarTrip® card before event day. This durable plastic, rechargeable card allows access to the Metro, whether rail, bus or parking. The card will help facilitate a quicker departure from the Finish Festival by reducing the wait at Rosslyn Metro station.

Running alone can be mentally tough. Listening to your favorite running playlist, audio-books or podcasts at low volume can keep your brain entertained without ruining your situational awareness. If you prefer to run in silence, try incorporating sprint intervals between blocks or electric poles to keep your mind busy. Also, don’t discount the importance of positive self-talk as the miles become difficult.

Frances Wilson

As the Commanding General of Marine Corps Base Quantico from 1997- 98, Lieutenant General (Lt. Gen.) Wilson was instrumental to the explosive growth of the Marine Corps Marathon, the professionalization of its staff, and the inception of the Armed Forces Marathon Championship, which furnished the race with an elite field of military athletes that has produced 14 of its overall individual champions in the past 26 years. Some of her additional career leadership roles include Commanding Officer of 4th Recruit Training Battalion at Parris Island, Commanding General of 3rd Force Service Support Group, and Commandant of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University. She retired from active duty in 2009. Lt. Gen. Wilson’s sister, Mary O’Donnell, is a retired United States Coast Guard Rear Admiral, who in 2000 became the first woman to be appointed a reserve rear admiral in the Coast Guard. At the time of O’Donnell’s retirement in 2004, Lt. Gen. Wilson and her sister were the highest-ranking sisters in the United States Military. Although also retired as a marathoner, Lt. Gen. Wilson is an avid runner who has completed four Marine Corps Marathons.

Alan Roth

Over the course of a distinguished business and consulting career, Allan Roth has worked in more than 40 countries and is fluent in 15 foreign languages. An avid lifelong runner and prolific volunteer organizer, Alan has also been an important advisor and staunch supporter of the Marine Corps Marathon since the early 1980s through his extensive experience and influence as the founder and executive director of the Greater Washington Running Council, and presidencies of both the Washington Running club and Potomac Valley Association of USA Track & Field, which is the governing body for athletics and road racing for Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. He is also the founder of the Achilles Track Club of Greater Washington, which supports the participation of impaired athletes in adaptive competition – A pursuit that has also become a shared passion and mission of the Marine Corps Marathon. In a similar manner during this period, Allan provided the MCM with support from the Presidential Council for Physical Fitness, which promotes fitness opportunities for American youth, a supplemental initiative that has evolved into the proud tradition of the MCM Kids Run, which has taken place on the Saturday before the MCM every year since 2000. Earlier this year, Allan was a recipient of the 2024 President’s Service Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award for 56 years of community service, as well as local and global outreach and education.

Donald Aycock

Donald is an MCM Legacy Runner who has completed 46 out of a possible 48 MCMs, which ties him for the most MCM finishes all time and makes him the runner with the most MCM’s who is not yet a member of the MCM Hall of Fame – and we are here tonight to emphatically bestow him with that well deserved distinction. Donald is a man of few words but immense determination as a native Alaskan who manages to train in the far north and travel annually to DC each October to join us for “the people’s marathon.”

MARINE

CORPS MARATHON ORGANIZATION WELCOMES ITS

2024 MCM AMBASSADORS

NANCY JULIA

“I have coached and taught people with intellectual disabilities since 1987 and brought my running team to the Marine Corps 5K for the first time in 1991. In 1993 I assumed co-responsibility with Dolores Enriques of the Special Olympics division of the event. Over the years the race evolved into an 8K and now the 10K. Originally, our athletes ran on our own course but as the popularity of the event blossomed, we became part of the full event, running alongside non-disabled runners. Several of my athletes have also run in the full marathon, with one using the MCM to qualify for the Boston Marathon, where she finished in the top 10% of all women!

I am now the sole coordinator for the Special Olympics division and work with the Marine Corps liaison to ensure that our athletes run safely and have the supports they need to be successful in this prestigious event. We typically have about 50 athletes run each year, including our Unified Partners who run as a team with their athletes which promotes inclusion

When I’m not working with Special Olympics athletes, I compete with all three of my miniature dachshunds in Barn Hunt and AKC Scent Work and Fast Cat. My Sundog (in the picture with me) is the 9th ranked dog out of over 68,000 dogs who compete in Barn Hunt!”

TIMOTHY LALONDE

Earlier this year, Timothy Lalonde was the Recipient of the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award. He received the award for performing life-saving actions on the 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC), General Eric M. Smith, after he su ered a cardiac arrest while on a run a short distance from his residence at Marine Barracks Washington on the afternoon of October 29th, 2023, following the 48th Marine Corps Marathon. Timothy Lalonde’s experience as a certified CPR instructor was cited as the critical factor in the Commandant’s survival by his subsequent attending physicians. Earlier in the day, Timothy had completed the MCM50K, with General Smith serving as the Military Guest of Honor and o cial starter of the marathon. Timothy accepted this invitation to return to the MCM, not only to receive our thanks and appreciation for his skill and determination when called to action to save a life last October, but to run the 49th Marine Corps Marathon, making him a true ambassador of the race in every possible meaning of that title - as well as a singular embodiment of the Marine Corps’ core values of
