The Spanish Club is open for all students studying Spanish throughout all the scholastic year. The main goal of this clubistogivemoreexposureoftheSpanishcultureandtoemphasiseonsometopicscarriedoutduringclass,butin a more entertaining way. Our brief sessions, this year were focused on revision of numbers and vocabulary. An assortmentofschoolboardgameswereusedtocarryouttheseactivities.ToencouragetheexposureoftheSpanish languagewewatchedanimatedmoviesandwealsohadaReadingChallenge.Thankstoourclassroomlibrary,every monthstudentshadtochooseandreadtwoSpanishbooksfromourclassroomlibrary.Furthermore,wemanagedto slotinabriefculinaryexperienceinwhichthestudentshadtheopportunitytopreparetheirownTapachoosingtheir favourite Spanish products. We closed off our sessions with a Spanish Fiesta in which students had to bring a Spanishproducedfooditemfromthesupermarket,andofcourse,wetoastedwithnon-alcoholicSangría.¡Salud!

PROJECTS - ERASMUS PLUS

This year our school embarked on a two scholastic year Erasmus+ project titled Our School of the Future – Integrating the Finnish approach at MRC Middle School Naxxar. Several educators from our school will be attending a number of training courses based on the application of 21st century skills, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication throughout our teaching.

Throughout this scholastic year, six educators from our school attended two different courses. During the first training programme – What Next in Finnish Classrooms! New Learning ways and spaces, course participants had the opportunity to become more familiar with the Finnish education system. The course covered a wide range of topics that can be tackled when introducing new learning ways and spaces.Itwasalsoagreatexperiencetolearnabout other education systems of other participating countries.

The second group of participants attended another training programme – Future Classrooms. Course participants had the opportunity to visit schools with innovative examples of future classrooms in Finland and to change for success. The course also discussed benefits of redesigning schools and learning spaces, the importance of team building and teamwork; best practices on multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary learning, the significance of transversal competences, versatile ways of student learning and utilizing different approachesandtechnology.

PROJECTS - ERASMUS PLUS MUSIC BEYOND BORDERS

Throughout these two scholastic years 2023-2024, our school is involved in a Music Erasmus+ project ‘Music Beyond Borders’

This project kicked off in November when we welcomed our partners from Italy and Greece to dicsuss how best to organise and plan our mobilities and prepare for this project. The project aims to allow students to explore new ways to interact with each other through music as a common language. Students involved participated in musical performances and workshops both in Malta and Greece and had the opportunity to explore different cultures and interact and perform with other students from all three countries.

The first phase of the project took place in Malta where all students had a full week of enriching and exciting activities together with our partners from GreeceandItaly.Itwasabusyweekwithrehearsals, workshops, excursions and cultural activities and studentshadtheopportunitytointegrateandgetto know the students from the other countries. The weekendedwithafinalconcertinourschoolhall.All three countries prepared a selection of music from theirowncountry,andthewholeorchestratogether performed a collaborative piece which students rehearsedthroughouttheweek.

The second phase of the project was a full week in Crete where students from the three countries involved,metagaintorehearseandperform.Several excursions were organised by our Greek partners and all the students had a great time performing, singing and dancing with their friends. The exciting week ended with a final performance at the Minoa Palace Hall. Each school and the whole orchestra together prepared new repertoire and performed in front of school students and distinguished guests. The third and final phase of the project will be in Todi, Italy to rehearse and perform new music togetheronceagain.
