The Department of Religious Education at Naxxar Middle School, under the guidance of Ms Alison Tanti Micallef (Assistant Head), seeks to instil moral and religious values in our students, so essential in this phase of growing up. Christmas is always a special time of the year, much awaited by staff and students alike. For the second year in a row, the traditional procession with the statue of Baby Jesus was held around the school grounds. Students dressed up as Biblical characters related to the Nativity, joined the procession accompanied by the sweet music of Christmas carols

This year, for the first time, Christmas Mass was organised for all students at the Naxxar Parish Church. This required the help and support of staff members, as students walked their way to the church. Mass was celebrated by the school’s spiritual counsellor, Fr Alfred Vassallo. Two students also recited the traditional Christmas sermon. We thank Mr Vince Taliana for coordinating and the staff for making this activity a success.

Lent and Easter are quick to follow, and Lenten talks were this year conducted in the school hall by newly ordained priest Fr Osmar Baldacchino. The two talks, one for year 7 and one for year 8, were wellreceivedbythelargenumberstudents.

Our Lady of Sorrows, as usual, was also celebrated, this year more than ever as the school invested in a beautiful statue which was carried around the school in a procession accompanied by band marches played by a group of students from the neighbouring GiovanniCurmiHigherSecondarySchool.

Apart from these activities, this year saw the finalisation of the prayer room which can be found in Block C. Ms Attard Mintoff assisted the Department in this project.
